On my list of most favourites, along with John C's "Equinox". A magical piece of music - every time I hear it is like the first time - eternally fond memories are associated with this piece. : )
With this song I always an envision an entity of pure light descending to the earth to heal all forms of suffering. Almost like the creator coming down to bless the denizens of this world, unknowing of greener pastures and purer forms of existence.
i respect the diversity and subjectivity in everyone's arbitrary aesthetic tastes, but I honestly cannot accept that three people here actually listened to this and thought "i dislike this"... I can tolerate but not accept. Seriously, why?
@MonsieurRondu that question has bugged me since I was little, I never understood it and I still don't, which is why I want to study music cognition & musical taste in grad school to figure it out .... lol.
This song features on one of the best and rarest albums I have in my collection. The album is called: 'JUST A TASTE" (ABC Dunhill - Impulse) which is a compilation of absolutely fantastic songs from legendary English bands/singers, eg: Jimmy Witherspoon's version of "Handbags and Gladrags" (the best version of this song); Genesis "Looking for Someone"; BBKing "Every day I have the Blues"; "The Last Valley" the haunting theme song from the movie of the same name; and many more.
I can listen to this song all day long and never tire of it. Meditation on this song can give insight on what it feels like to be in the state of Satchidananda if only temporarily. This song is so beautiful!
Alice was a force like no other. I love John's music dearly, but Alice went above and beyond even his heights. This is REAL post-rock in my humblest of opinions.
This album was part of my collection in 1974 as a high school student! Years later, I was privileged to see Alice Coltrane (Turiyasangitananda) in concert with son, Ravi! She seemed to think there would not be much interest in seeing her perform in later years - fortunately, she was in error! She transcended in 2006.
Went to my house in Rosarito MX...it faces the beach and green mountains are behind us....I was playing "Message from the nile" my favorite McCoy Tyner tune....It fit in with Mexico so perfectly-the land....I realized it was the peace and tranquility of the beach and mountains...And now I hear Alice again....so moving. As SPORTYPAT48 said...once my energy is returned back to the infinite...this is what I also hope to hear.
glad you like it. i uploaded it months ago but Youtube said that it wouldn't be posted because the Universal Music Goup may or may not have the rights to it (?). I guess they didn't have the rights to it, so it was finally posted. : ) Hope it stays up for future listeners!
Thanks IWM, from someone who's treasured this amazing talent and vibe for years - first heard the tune years ago on Detroit 'underground' radio. Had the vinyl, sold it, had it on mp.3, lost it and now it's here. If it's any consolation to UMG, their sales just went up by 1!!!!! Thank you and UMG for being enlightened enough to share this with me and others of like musical persuasion. Peace.
I hear her husband wasn't bad at the old saxomaphone. ;)

Definitely one of the best albums of the 70s. Right up there with Funkadelic's Maggot Brain and Jimi Hendrix's The Cry of Love.

Anyone have bass transcriptions or even simple tabs for this? I'd love to learn it, but I'm a terrible learner by ear.
