Concept and storyline simple, cast perfect, songs utterly appropriate, singing and dancing sublime. An entertainment that is truly American, which owes a lot to the theatrical and musical tradition which preceded it and all brought together in one of the 20th Century's great art forms.
I just can say I watched this movie when I was a little child, and I remember this scene like one of the most joy-filled and optimistic in any musical movie!
In the 360-degree panoramic viewpoint of Buliding GE (NBC headquarters), we see much of Central Park, and the silhouette of the Empire State (where you drop the giant gorilla), but it is impossible to make out the towers twin (World Trade Center), first because they were more than 6 km below, plus the Hudson River fog makes it even more difficult, and on top of missing 30 years before the start building. The movie has almost 60 years old.
@Cajunlady02 It was a VERY low point in his life. He was washed up when this was filmed. I highly recommend reading Frank: The Voice by James Kaplan. It may be a brick of a book, but it's a fast and easy read that makes you feel like you're there.
Is it just me or when they run off the ship they look like sperms? :PPP
But in the city they look like a bunch of lil' boys let into a candystore - sooooooooo cuuuuuuute, and their uniforms make their asses look even nicer ^___^
Me encanta este video, es un perfecto resumen de uno de mis mejores viajes, cada vez que pienso que he estado paseando donde se rodaron estos planos y por donde pasearon y cantaron estos crack ..... me encanta.... volvere....
@SilverScreenLee Watching this for the first time made me sort of want to go in the Navy (I was 7) Because I thought Gene Kelly would be there. Now I'm 12 (Im a girl) And haha Its funny (not really) Cuz I'm the only one in the class who know who Gene Kelly is before I told them who he was. Gosh its sad...
The East Coast variant of Anchors Aweigh, I totally dig On The Town more though.
New York's so magnificent in that year, I wish I could timetravel just to be there.

Me, too. I was surprised to find out, after my grandmother's death, that she had actually once danced with Gene Kelly.

Ah! Gene and Frank's third film together. This clip is great fun. They make such jovial sailors on-screen. These gentlemen were true entertainers!
