As a student, I never liked Furlanetto. Now that I have been singing professionally for many years. I have come to appreciate him. A wonderful artist with a great voice. Thanks for posting this!
@Alfruna Yes, it is. I think Furlanetto is one of the finest basses ever. I've heard him live quite a few times...and they've all been marvelous experiences. He's a marvelous King Phillip, Boris Godunov, and Don Quichotte.
Well, I am Russian... In fact, his accent is not very bad, only some consonants... But remember that Russian language is not easy to speak, the prononciation is rather difficult. Also, I've been learning Italian, and
Furlanettto e un cantante moloto grande e canta questa aria molto bene, benissimo, con una grande maturita vocale e aritstica.E un basso grande!!!Mi sembra solo che la sua pronuncia non e molto russa.
Reasonably good singing but litttle slow and over dramatic(obviously he does not know what he is singing-or perhaps he is just in love with his voice.I would give him four stars at best though.
Magnificent! Ghiaurov sang it more beautifully, but it rolled out of his inky voice like an elegant tapestry (much like, basically, everything else he ever sang). Furlanetto is much more passionate - much more world-weary.
Oh wow, I had goosebumps! This is arguably my most favourite aria from "Evgeny Onegin" and he sings it beautifully! It is a bit slower, but sounds more powerful this way. Or maybe it's just the amazing Furlanetto ))
Terrific singing and very interesting stage concept. I wish I could see all the production. It seems to be very cinematographic, very different to any other Onegin.
I don't speak Russian, but it nice to hear the language sung by an Italian. It's the first time I've ever heard this aria sung where I could understand every word. No offense meant, but most Russian speakers swallow their words making it difficult for us Westerners to understand. Very nice rendition. Not what I expected when I saw Furlanetto
Well, I do speak Russian and dont like his pronunciation. Russian has some peculiar sounds which make it difficult for us in the west to distinguish between the words, but this is the way it should be spoken. The difference between Italian and Russian is quite large but so is the difference between German and Russian, and Rene Pape sings Boris with an almost flawless diction. I guess it is a matter of time invested in language training, and maybe talent.
@turbofreddy Furlanetto is one of the greatest basses of all time...and just about the finest actor in opera today. We in San Diego are very lucky that he performs so often here. Next year he will sing his first Baron Ochs in San Diego.
@Ankhsnammon I couldn't agree more. The slow tempo does add beauty. Furlanetto's marvelous acting (and exquisite voice of course) enhances it also. Bravo, Ferruccio! The greatest actor in opera today!
Furlanetto is the best bass alive. He is a great actor too.
What a voice! wonderful!

Как носитель русского языка скажу, что не смотря на то, что furlanetto не русский бас, это лучшее исполнение этой арии в мире!

Furlaneto, impossible to praise him enough! Wonderful singing and voice, and peerless acting! Such emotion here!

@lamsalgado He's just about perfect. The voice alone would be enough, but he's also the finest actor working in opera today.

At least, his pronunciation is much better than Onegin's and Lenskyi's :)

how can one get that production??

As good as the cast is, the production is vulgar and acting is amateurish.

Great singing, Bravo Furlanetto and for his effort to learn Russian too, even if it is an accent exists.

E' straordinario il Boris Godunov di Furlanetto recentemente dato alla Fenice per talento scenico, corpo vocale e profondità sonora.
