  • Just asking.. she has a back up guitarist somewhere here right?

  • @disam73 Nope.

  • Who cares if she is gay, i do not care if she sleeps with animals as far as being a musician and an artist she is a master, a goodness. She is the shit.

  • @musicluver211213 She's gay! Damn now I can never have her!

  • @pyromegalomaniac shes waay out of your league buddy..

  • People making comments about the tempo, she is timed of course she can't be fannying around. There is only so much she can do in such little time.

  • I can't say this is bad or anything because what she is doing is just off the charts of amazing. But I just can't enjoy the music =/ Judging from the first few comments I see, I am not alone. If you close your eyes, it kinda just sounds like someone is going ballistic with a guitar or something. At least I can have closure in knowing that she does actually make very aesthetically pleasing songs as well as advanced pieces like this.

  • @bourky93 Well she has 5 albums worth of material that people can enjoy, got to be experimental otherwise things get boring.

  • no melody.. too much technic.

  • music: BLEGH but it's awesome style +1

  • @aaronshort90 i like ur question, but unfortunately only u can answer that one

  • can she be any sexier? i want her as a wife.

  • @Morganyuhbeezy Tough luck - she's gay.

  • Just to be clear, I'm not 'outing' her, she is openly lesbian. Google 'Kaki King gay' for interviews, etc.

  • @itamarfelr You mean Justin Bieber looks like HER. He is a handsome woman.

  • except by the guitar.

  • es buenisima, de hecho los armonicos naturales son los q mas me gustan. buen bueno

  • Ki King!

  • she is toooooo Awesome...

i would kiss her pussy in public if she want me to..........

  • the best! really!!! :D

  • Marry Me.

  • she's really good technically in this video but i think she's nervous, because she's rushing through it and it loses some of its groove

  • And all that on a BLOW-Vation... amazing.

  • Holy F%@& she's awesome... JUST SO FREAKIN AWESOME. I am going to make every effort possible to see her live.

  • i think she looks sexy with her pony tail

  • too bad she's into girls...

  • well now thats hot

  • @Sergio0Oo she's lesbian ;]

  • Preston reed would be proud of her!!!

  • is this what they call slappin da bass

  • @charliehenryrufus i'm afraid it's a totally different thing

  • Amazing ! Ovation can be proud :)

  • She looks so dinky when holding a guitar, and that's almost adorable in it's own right.

Then you realize that a human body so small can hold so much talent...dear lord

  • she abuses of open strings... but its ok i like it anyway

  • faik

  • She does know if she made a brand of her nails I'd buy them, right?

  • what a boss

  • Damn. Just damn. Amazing kaki. you never seize to amaze me.

  • After i saw her play this song like that. I tried playing some songs with my hand ABOVE the fretboard instead of under....it's pretty sweet tho it sounds the same...new ways of playing is always welcome

  • OMG !! como es genial esta mujer @Kakiking

  • I'm in lesbians with her! *.*

  • amazing

  • michael hedges and kaki king. two of my favorites. this is amazing.

  • I really love this girl

  • i wonder if she knows how to play the regular way..

  • of course she does -_-

most of her songs are played with normal chords, picking, etc.

She just has a few that use this style.

  • Hah, she is good! Too bad I only discovered her yesterday night. Better late than never, huh.

  • There is any artist named Trace Bundy. He plays the same style of music as this.check him out.

  • uhaoooo uhaooooo

  • this performance is probably one of the worst performances of this song I've seen. I really wish that a) she either chose a different song or b) didn't change tempo so much. I'm almost sure that she was nervous as hell playing this, as I would be too, and that probably messed with her playing.

  • Kaki is amazing

  • so nice, this woman have the tempo in the heart, very so nice, i wish for she, she 's a star wars

  • soo fucking awesome (;

  • i'm going to be hated for this, but it was too much chaos in my ears. sure i can't play guitar perfeclty, like most of us can of course (/sarcasm) but this was just shitty in my ears.. :(

  • I've never been so happy to see anything before!

  • God she's tiny.

  • Huge Guitar or tiny lady????

  • @farnium both?

  • @GrandmasMan Both

  • @GrandmasMan BOTH!!!

  • I never knew she did the music for august rush but was always fascinated by the way the music was played. I like the different beat tones along with the unusual way of making different chords and sounds with the whole guitar rather than just the strings. I am grateful to my friend for recommending I Watch this.

  • manic nonsense

  • smack that guitar, kaki! XD

  • I LOVE the work she did in the movie August Rush. That's what turned me on to her in the first place. She is SO AWESOME!!!!! I wish I could learn to play like her....I wish I could learn to play the guitar at all.....oh well. You go girl!!

  • love the tapping

  • This is an epic performance. I went to her gig afew days after this performance was filmed and she said she couldnt beliveve how badly she had played on Jools?! After watching this I cant believe for a second that this is bad (just incredibly fast!)! AMAZING ARTIST

  • nothing beats watchin' those beautiful fingers do there thing live. kaki kings fantastic.

  • She played it Faster then usually, see of obvious mistakes but, even the greatest Musicians still make mistakes

  • @daplayer What you call mistakes, I call alternative interpretations.

  • Female guitarist version of Gustavo Dal Farra

  • Check out the new unofficial website kakikingitalia com!

Follow us on twitter KakiKingItalia and join the community! Thanks :)

  • i love listening to this realy baked :) thumbs up !

  • i love her

  • Kaki is very talented, i enjoyed this a lot

  • QUE ALGUIEN ME EXPLIQUE QUE CHINGADOS TIENE ESO DE INTERESANTE ??????????

  • Anyone that can make this kind of stuff up and play it is mega talented.

  • omg my inspiration

  • She was rushing through the song it seemed.

  • @Nyoggzathulhu i was thinking the same thing.

  • @Nyoggzathulhu well thats the bitch about performing anything live... you are never immune from mistakes

  • @Nyoggzathulhu her timing is fcked indeed, not only here

  • ah pero ella si puede dar un concierto en jeans y converse

  • That looks a little bit like a show off to me, cause i dont recognize any "music" behind this...in terms of things like emotion and such.

  • I really just cannot enjoy this

  • Reminds me of PRIMUS...cool!

  • she is still my favorite guitarist

  • The compostion is what makes her music great.

  • shit. ovation guitars suck.

  • @coooorey personaly i love ovations, i have an elite something and i love it, but thats just my opinion

  • Another amazing woman who's rocking my world. :D

  • ... they didn't get it.

  • i hate people that use the term - understand music. music is something beyond reason and should be considered an emotional expirience. u like or u dont like there is no understanding it. saying things like that pisses me of... understand music? u gotta be kidding me...

  • Kelian,

You seem to be the one who is "understanding music" now: isn't calling it an "emotional experience" some way to understand it? You are understanding it in terms of the emotions it gives you. That is a great way to "understand music," so congratulations.

That being said, I have been a musician for over about 35 years if not since I was an infant beating on pans with a spoon. There are many ways to "understand music" - none are right or wrong.

There is no reason to "hate people" for this.

  • wahh crazy^^

  • Comment removed

  • can you put up a video of yourself playing something better?

  • still learning, i have a vid or two up but not doing more until i sort out a new guitar, i'm more into andy mckee at the moment, in the middle of learning his song i will see you again and don ross afraid to dance. What i just don't like is it's sort of plagerism if a person doesn't make the point that other artists that created the style if people go wow that was great! but she doesn't say yeah i've been really influenced by preston reed, michael hedges etc check them out then thats just crap=P

  • I believe she has said she's been primarily influenced by Preston Reed and Michael Hedges. In an interview with NPR radio, she explicitly cites them as influences.

  • then i stand corrected =) as long as people site who they get there motivation from i'm happy, too many people try theive off other artists and get away with it.Cold Play got done for it recently, the song Viva La Vida was plagerised a Joe Satriani song, they setlled but they would have lost the Grammy they won for the song had he not agreed to a settlement

If anyone hasn't listened to any Hedges or Reed check them out! masters of the guitar! Reed lives in Scotland so he tours the UK regulaly =)

  • I still think her TED performance is the best one for this song.

  • Nice!

  • *playing WITH pink noise*

  • totally kickass .. love it

  • Incredible

  • Precioso sin palabras!

  • amen chrirus, tommy emmanuel is amazing!check him out everyone

  • Kaki inspires.

  • its very unique

    she got talent

  • The nails on her right hand fingers make her look like Lady Deathstrike from the X-Men.

  • She's one of the best guitar players of all time.

  • Shes very very good, but saying one of the best of all time is a bit of an exaggeration!

  • I don't know if you've checked her other songs, they're way better than this and you can tell how talented she is. You should check them out :)

  • I know shes talented - I actually said that - but I think, and most people will agree with me, that saying that she is one of the best of all time is a bit of an overstatement, if you compare her to the likes of, say, Preston Reed, Michael Hedges or Eric Roche.

  • well put, I was typing almost the same comment, when I noticed you had already said it for me. cheers.

  • You definitely need to check out Tommy Emmanuel ;)

  • She's so unbelievably cute.

  • I first saw her on TEDtalks- google it, it's a podcast and her preformance on there is amazing!

  • she go so fast!!!!!!... ? Chilly willy out..???

  • adam çalıyorya...bravo

  • serkanaydinn, it's a she :D

  • i kind of enjoy the fact that alot of its percussive / noisey, then overtones appear and disappear. I really like it especially when she moves into those strange coloured chord sequences (im not a guitarist so not sure of the terms.) they are really really moving for me.

  • now she makes me wnna grow my nails out only on my right hand! that would be sp kool but kinda hard

  • *so

  • Playing is OK....more importantly, she's a cuteness of the button variety.

  • I agree that her playing is okay. It's the cuteness of the button variety that's made her so popular. You want to see someone with true guitar chops? Check out Tommy Emmanuel.

  • It's not her chops; it's her songwriting.

  • @Lovecraft688 she's way more than okay. and yeah, she's cute, but i don't see how that's more important.

  • MrChooWei, i read somewhere that she started as a drummer and then went to guitar. So she approaches guitar from a drummers pov. So u made a good assesment.

  • It feels like a drum solo on guitar.

I play both so I kinda linked them up..

    hmm and its beautiful!

  • I love this style of playing, but gotta say i prefer the style of people like mongraine, shes no doubt talented technically, but her melodic writing isn't at the same parr.

I kinda find the main *riff* hard to listen to so after nice passages it just kinda ruins it for me

  • I don't know if this just isn't my music...but this sounds quite crap to me. And I had rather liked the videos of her I'd seen prior.

  • I like the bass line. But yeah - most of the stuff she plays here is just jangled incoherent noise (and mind you I REALLY like incoherence and music that's smashed to pieces).

  • Look up "gay sons of lesbian mothers" by her.

  • and now your man comment is pissing me off.... if you follow what Kaki King has released, you may find a completly new and eccentric feel and style. She is one of the most brilliant solo artist's active

  • AGREE 100%

"dreaming of revenge" (her latest) is AMAZING!! highly recommended, it's the first cd of hers that i listened to and that's how i found out about her.

  • .....where is the melody? who needs a melody when there is so much creativity

  • Bull. She's not nervous to that degree. She just plays this with slight improv each and every time she does it and she does it so superbly, it's really unreal.

I would love to have one moment in time, in any universe, with Jimmy Hendrix and her just duetting it up. Experimentation and new-wave artistry with guitars goes into oblivion at that point:D

Can't wait to see her live on the 25th!!

  • Yes, you can see she's nervous and rushing through the piece - still - I like her and have the CD this piece is from. Anyone, anytime, can be off their game (been there, bled that).

  • The song is called Playing with Pink Noise.

  • She's an incredible musician.

  • kaki rules!

  • She must have two brains to be able to pull this off. :)

  • that is a guitar god and she is the only woman ever to be named that by Rolling Stone. If you think this is "awful" then you should stick to coldplay and staind because you have no clue what music is

  • kaki király XD

  • would anyonw care about her if she played this song with her left hand in the standard way...probably would never have been famous.

  • That, of course, is what makes one "famous" is it not? Abe Lincoln once said "Whatever you are, be a good one." .... And the key to success is to "Do a common thing uncommonly well." - Perhaps you should take this into account the next time you view someone who is... "famous"

  • Yeah, I guess the world, without you, would be perfect.

  • ... listen to that child, who says you are different from them. Moreover, the lack of neural cells can turn you in one of em more easily than anyone else.

    Now, go play GTAIV, please.

  • I'll have you know, I already flipped GTA IV, thank you very much!!!

  • Buh, just listen to prestone reed.

  • I bad for Kaki, even if this is a great performance, she's shaking and you can definitely see at 1:55

  • who cares..

  • ever see foo fighters on jools holland? even rock veteran dave grohl was shaking and he's been in the game for many more years than kaki has been an adult

  • Haha! I know! He must be the Barbara Walters of Music! (no disrespect)

  • Yeah, like I said, who cares if she is shaking..whoever thinks that makes it a bad performance is a moron

  • I never said it was. I just feel bad for her because of how nervous she was.

  • Dog...Nervousness is a part of any performer's experience, and we all have to deal with it. She is clearly able to deal with it, and that's why she is where she is.

  • Aeon,

If you are fixated on melody (as Westerners have been trained to be), you should try some other songs. This is only one of many types of sounds she can produce.

  • tht is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good

can we meet to have a jam out

  • I just ...

    love her

  • Is life really described as "sitting at home, feuding with someone miles away via youtube comments"?

    i think not.

sick video though. i wish i could play like this

  • Yo. You idiots who slam on this girl need to shut your faces. I'd love to see any of you even try to write music like this, let alone play it on stage. This is music at it's purest form. Harmonic, as well as other forms of music.

  • you are awesome. :]

  • leave it to the bbc to bollocks up the title...it's playing with pink noise, not playing pink with noise...you'd think they'd have gotten the title correct a least....

  • something was wrong with the sound there wasn't there?

  • Andy McKee kicks her ass

  • Maybe if she played on a semi acoustic to make it louder??

  • wow... what is this supposed to? A very poorly executed attempted at slap-guitar? Timing is off. She's got finger technique, but the girl cannot write music. Repetitive music lacking any sort of creativity. Leave it to Hedges.

  • she said she did terrible on this performance cuz she played it too fast cuz she was so nervous. also, she said her choice of vest was poor and shouldn't have worn it. she's really an amazing composer, her "...until we felt red" album is absolutely stunning.

  • dude, her having different musical taste from YOU, does not make her an idiot. I've listened to Rush, its not my taste Either.

She's a Great Musician and you know it. FOrget about HOW IT Just Looks Impressive ITs, not only Amazing to watch but her music is very unique and MOSt Importantly, From the HEart. If thats not being a Musician i don't know what is

  • Has nothing to do with taste since as you point out all art is relative. I don't think she is great, everything she does on guitar I can do and I am great. More importantly you statement lacks objectivity. You say she is great but people have different tastes, but clearly Rush are the greatest instrumental band of the past 40 years in prog rock. So even if she has different tastes wouldn't she then still be able to acknowledge how great Rush is? That's a contradiction...

  • Sorry, I posted a typo. I meant to type "everything she does on guitar and I am NOT great"
