Hopkins never pulled out of the fight, he stoood to make only $1m because after unification tournament he was part promoted by Don King as part of the terms of unification tournament, he was happy with the terms of fighting Calzaghe which he agreed to, but not his cut with Don King, it was derisory for an undisputed champ, compared to Jones who was picking up $2-3 million a fight in Florida fighting bums like Telesco, Richard Hall etc..

No because Hopkins was part-promoted by Don King, which he didnt like but it was part of the terms as winner of m.w unification tournament Don King organised in 2001 between Hopkins, Keith Holmes, Trinidad and William Joppy.......Hopkins couldnt agree terms with Don King, he agreed everything else with Calzaghe, TV etc, Hopkins has always been self promoted so problem....Calzaghe was not a big name in US in 2002, so not a big paying fight, problem Froch will have with Jermain Taylor

Calzaghe had an arranged fight with Glen Johnson in 2004, to unify his division after Johnson KO'd Jones but he pulled out with a 'bad back' then in 2006 he had another fight with Glen johnson but he pulled out days before again with a 'bad hand' even if Calzaghe vs Hopkins fight was all go the Welsh Coward would have made an excuse and pulled out! If you read about Froch, he is WBC No1 contender when Joe Vacates belt, but it looks likely it will be Taylor vs Lacy simply because of money i.e Froch not a name in US compared to Lacy an ex-champion and Sydney Olympian so TV pays more money for that bout etc..........If Calzaghe had Don King hanging round his neck, yes I would agree with you!
