  • Ah the glory days of soaps. I am feeling nostalgic right now. I'd do anything to have my Guiding Light back with the writers and characters from the 80s. Dreaming of the good old days.

  • ...... and at 7:48 is when we ALL lost our beautiful long closings to make room for squeeze credits and ads for some bullshit program coming up at night later that week that NO ONE gave a shit about. Sorry, but I will ALWAYS claim that the elimination of our beloved closings around 1999 was the FIRST nail in daytime's coffin.

  • I have always hated the one that starts around 2:00. That version of the theme is awful, combined with that plain and BORING white background. Whoever thought this was an improvement over just the previous "glittering jewel" title must have been fresh out of rehab.

  • SoapsGoldenAge, thanks for the response. Sorry for the delay. I did not see the response until today believe it or not. The version I was looking for is not in the post that you sent. Ironically, it is the only GL end theme that is missing. Oh well.

  • Was that the late actress Teresa Wright? The one that played in the British movie Mrs Miniver? ) : This makes me sad. It reminds me of when I could turn on my TV every weekday afternoon at 3PM and see this wonderful program. And I loved the closing credits in the second montage in the minor keys. kisses and hugs for all the actors And the crew.XXXXXXXXXXXXXX OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

  • ♫ You are my Guiding Light, my bright shining light. ♫

  • Great montage, can I download this from anywhere?

  • @j7kc3 check out RealPlayer. Full stop.

  • I love 80's instrumental music. It's so chipper and danceable. This soap opera had good ending theme music through it's lifespan.

  • That was great. But, there is another variation to the 1986 theme. They played it a few times. I remember when Kyle Sampson was a character they played it once. Nobody seems to have that one. It was called the Happy Theme.

  • Gail Kobe has 4 versions at one point--the happy theme, one called pensive or something (sounded Edge of Nighty), the sad theme and this one. Her intent was to feature the theme that best captured the day's "theme" (but it quickly ended since the various themes were so different.) I have an audio version from a friend of the theme you're speaking about

  • @ebrelle11 I have all the Gail Kobe versions--she rotated them briefly depending on the "mood" of that day's episode

  • No, Mindy and Kurt's dream house had just burned down.

  • these are great, but i got an question: the 2nd clip in this video, was there a death involved?

  • That promo at the end is the most misleading thing I've seen in long time.

  • 2002 marked 50 years on television so in that respect, it's not misleading assuming you mean the 50 years part. 2007 was 70 years on radio and TV combined

If you mean 'the best is yet to come' we can only wish.

  • Thanks for reposting these. Does anyone know when the second closing featured here originally was broadcast with the 'melancholy' version of the theme?

  • i think it was 1983

  • There's NO WAY that could be 1983 as the copyright says 1985 or 1986. Kurt was not even on the show at that time and if memory serves he did not arrive until sometime in 1985.

  • I just love all of us soap theme "nuts". It's 1986, but that musical version may have only been a one time shot. GL went to live background shots behind the credits for a few months, then went back to the glittering jewel in the background(what was that gorgeous thing) before changing completely in Oct.1986. The title design at 1:04 has always made my heart stop - this show's best ever!...Thanks for all your material that I have viewed more than I care to admit. You're a blessing to us all!

  • I believe it is a shot of the emmy GL won in the early 80's. It;s heavily distorted to not promote the Emmys themselves or be too bragish.

  • Thank you for finding these! I used to subscribe to many of Washeswhiter's soap clips!
