The music was written by John Hughes in 1907, to commemorate a music festival in Wales. Later, some older words were applied to the tune, which is a popular hymn, "Guide Me O, Thou Great Jehovah", which seems to be singularly inappropriate to these film clips.
You know, I once told my grandfather that many classic westerns were actually remakes of Japanese fims, even showed him where it says so in the credits (on Mag 7 and my DVD of Fistful), he still didn't believe me.
That's the WWII generation for you...I love the old guy, but he can be a pain sometimes!
Yes, the Bruce Willis film directed by Walter Hill gave credit to the screenplay by Kurosawa and Kikushima. However, if you read about Leone's Fistful, it was originally stolen, and there was no credit with Kurosawa's name in the movie. Leone ended up having to pay Kurosawa money, and maybe Kurosawa's name has been put into the credits on later DVD releases.
There was a lawsuit launched against the producers of Leone's film almost as soon as it was released. Which is the only reaon you see a credit at the beginning.
Thanks, and this clip exists because I needed these scenes for a senior thesis I wrote about Kurosawa's films and their remakes. I'm a Kurosawa fan, and I like his style best, though Leone's is eccentric.

Great video. I love both Mifone and Eastwood. After all, Eastwood went on to do Dirty Harry.
But I love Samurai film of the 50s and 60s. Kill!, Sanjuro, Yojimbo, etc.
Great linkage of ideas.

At least Kurosawa was credited in the beginning of Fistful Of Dollars. That's Italian.
The American remake was called Last Man Standing, and Kurosawa as credited for that, too.
