  • Niamh Parsons is playing on Friday 3 December in the Portobello Hotel, Sth. Richmond Street., Dublin (a fund-raising night for an orphanage in Haiti). More details at the Haiti Sessions blog.

  • What a beautiful song ! God bless you. I am not Irish, but I love Celtic music and songs...

  • if niamh parsons is attending castleisland festival this oct ....im there....fab

  • @TheVioletdragonfly Niamh couldnt make it for castleisland festival this year because she doubled booked by accident( she was touring at the time) she has given a firm comitment that she will return next year. Trust me I know this, I have insider knowledge (my dad runs the festival)

  • wow....so haunting and emotional

  • Thank you so much for posting this one. It's been too long ago I've been to Ireland and it's been too too long ago I've seen Niamh Parsons.

When will things get right again?

  • I will never forget the day I heard this song for the first time, I was astonished of the beauty of the voice of this singer and the lyric of the song touched my soul deep, still now touche me in a special way as no other song has done before.

  • She performs at tehe Patrick o Keefe music festival in Castleisland co kerry every Ochtober bank holiday weekend as is always the highlight of the festival for me. This being a festival that the great Dessie o Halloran graces anually is saying something. I love her rendition of "The Boys Of Barr Na Sraide" its always outstanding!

  • Someday your dream will come true ;)

  • Your comment reminds me of the poem "the isle of Inisfree"

  • Love this song....

  • For me, this evokes so much of the same feeling as "Wuthering Heights" ...

Can anyone tell me the story behind the song, even if its just that it was inspired by some lovely scene?

I can't find anything online about it, and I cannot get it out of my head.

Maybe its the Fall weather, the rainy day :-)

  • I would say pm the user Parsnipsone :)

  • :-) I will!

  • @carole7777 It was written by Briege Murphy.. check her out on myspace. Or her other songs on youtube.

  • @dorapunjab Thank you - I located her on myspace and had a nice chat - wow I guess it was 7 months ago now! Very sweet lady.

  • @carole7777 Clohinne is a townland in the Mullaghbawn/Forkhill area of South Armagh, in northern Ireland where Briege Murphy (the writer of this song) comes from. It's a modern song not traditional, but brilliant none the less.

  • From @carole7777

Thanks to those who have sent me messages on this lovely tune!

  • Niamh, mo mhuirnín, you sang Bár na Sráide for me in Bristol (Kerryman) many years ago - Still after many years there is no one that has such a rich clear melodic voice as yours - long may you continue - the World is missing out - Hey world listen to her albums Hearts Desire, In My Prime etc. superb treats-

    beir bua

    Donal

  • She has such a rich clear voice even though she smokes! I'm not sure how that's possible, but she's incredible. :-D

  • yes, it's incredible. I was always jealous of all those singers, who smoke and still are able to sing beautifully and clearly - because I'm hardly a good singer even without smoking, but if I smoke in addition there will be terrible sounds coming out of my throat :))

  • wow

  • Truly one of the most wonderous unknown singers of the past 20 years!

  • dear Niamh... so so moving...

There is no one who sings like you...

    thanks....
