and all you guys thinking that taking the springs off will make it faster are wrong. as one spring is compressing, its opposite one is expanding (regenerative characteristic) it will actually work worse without the springs.
Now there is a small compressor in the pneumatic log lifter (8049). You can build a efficient high speed compressor and drive standard lego pneumatics instead of pumping by hand.
I made a compressor that used 4 of thoes pumps (Without the springs) two motors and a model train controller that output 16 volts, that was inanely powerful
Why does EVERYONE asks "why u use it slow" and something like that??!?!??!?! EVERYONE knows the answer! Simplified, its the same as The Slower = The Stronger. So SHUT UP!
the reason why it is going so slow is because of the spinning spiral on top that turns the other gears, it gives it more power so it can get more pressure into the tank. besides, torque is power not speed.
very nice! if it only came in compact lol. (i tried to make a lego battlebot with a pneumatic flipper- but it requred pumping after the third lift)... It was scrapped
Listen to the Lego Flexpicker video and you can hear how fast it gets going when you use a RC buggy motor and two pumps with the springs taken off. It rocks much faster.
oh james is right. these two forces don't cancel each other exactly. someone who has time and interest can calculate the actual force (as a function of the degree of the big gray wheels)
nice design -- looks like you turned the power functions motor into a servo motor with lots of torque.
By the way, you can easily pump air into 5 cylinders with a single NXT servo motor (check out my compressor). No need for worm gears or reduction...but I guess you already know that since you got the brick :D
hi man you pump seems to work good but if you have enough of these big pumps, then take the springs off, it helps amazing (i did it miself too, i have 5 big pumps, 3 yelow ones and 2 black ones, hope you use the tip !!!)
Amazing power, the reduction gear it's a little stressed. I think that the output in air it's not so high to justify the usage of two motors, but it's a cool design! What's the green board near the airtank?

interesting, but what is the point when you can pump it up by hand (at least) 5 times as fast with only one pump?
Gfok3 10 months ago
maybe gearing it up and removing the spring (make sure u store the springs in a safe place:)) very nive model!!! tho

WAY, way too big for such a damn slow compressor

where did you get the little cylinder

Very innovative, and neatly put together.

you should make it so when it senses all the pressure is released a moter turns it back on! :3

two pf xl motors don't need a worm screw gear box

so is this compressing the air or using compressed air cuz i got plans for a engine and i need a continuas sorce of comressed air plz tell me
jep0rox 2 years ago
for what i can see is this copmressing air but i can go a lotfaster nd higher presue up to 4 bar
patton446 1 year ago
@jep0rox it makes semi compressed air if he would remove the springs on the pumps then speed it up it could b rly powerful
pivotcrazzy 1 year ago
you should make a gearbox so its fast at the begining but becomes slow and powerful at the end
sholtob 2 years ago
@sholtob im trying to buils a 6 gear gearbox :P

awsome, i built a 3 gear one but its on nxtprograms not youtube

cutting the springs off the pump help the motor, but then thats just wrong to do that to lego :(
great project looks strong
legomaniacman 2 years ago
its possible to bend the first coil off then then rest comes off easy, and you can put it back on :), no harm done

true, didn't think of that

slow = no air dipshit. DUH
robby844 2 years ago
u should forget the regulator and just put all the air in a bottle and compress it all see how much PSI u can get it would be cool

Power = Torque * Speed ;)
urveen 2 years ago
nope... torque isn't power. power is torque times angular velocity.

es ist besser, wenn man die federn der pumpen entfernt, kann man nachher auch wieder ganz leicht anbringen...
harleysimon 2 years ago
why u driving it so slowly??
Tunerboii2045 2 years ago
The motor doesnt have enough torque to turn it faster...

well, since the two pumps have 180degre to each other, the forces of the two springs cancel each other.

if u use xl motors u can have the pumps with springs directly attach to the pump without gear down
