It's not weird really, if you really look closely at battles, which this one is a good example, they use the musicality for their advantage to express themselves through charisma and the beat. This is how bboying was back in the day. Not very familiar with a lot of the Japanese bboys but one of them uses the beat and expresses how he is "killing" the other crew at 6:25 (imo). If you look at other battles, lots of bboys beat off at each other as another example. It shows they're feelin the music
