****** young ones these days, queuing up buying property all around them, i knew this one 15 year old lad, owned like 50 houses, ah sure he'll pay for it there the next 50 years of his life, paying ridiculous income tax, paye etc. while supprting his mothers and fathers drinking, tv addictions, paying 500 a week on a nursing homes, god bless older generations, who weren't stupid enough to buy into all the crap.
While there is a strong argument that many of those who did 'party' were victims of a vulture banking system. Not to mention the culture perpetuated by the media and others in the form of property porn. People were only behaving as logical actors in a society that placed material wealth and cheap easy credit as the be all and end all.
Who actually believes this 'we all partied' line any more? emphasis on the 'all'
There were vast swathes of the working-class that the Celitc Tiger never benefited, and now they are some of the ones facing the worst anti-social cuts, to pay for a minority of gamblers.
Yeah, nice bit of xenophobia there. Nothing to do with us of course,it's all the "troika's" fault. Not the people of Ireland's fault at all.No. Voting for gobeen corrupt Fianna Fail politicians over and over again.Speculating on property and to hell with pushing house prices up pricing people out of the market. It's all the banks fault of course.
@lordkilmainham To lay the blame at the feet of the Irish population would be myopic. If the banks made it easy to get access to credit/mortgages that surely isn't the fault of the customer.
@lordkilmainham Oh dear, look it's very simple, a bank like any other business offers a professional service, they are the experts. If a loanee asks "can I afford this?" & the bank says "yes," the customer in trusting that, is taking onboard what they believe to be expert advice & not -as our glorious leader will have it- exhibiting signs of insanity. I think you'll find personal responsibility is not the done thing anywhere, it's known as the "confirmation bias" & is consistent across cultures.
@seanankerr Nobody remembers the queues outside hotels for foreign property exhibitions? Nobody knows people who re-mortgaged for a new car or another property?
Cognitive dissonance, denial call it what you want, but Iain't buying it. Time for people to grow up.
The real simpletons are those who sit in front of the telly and take it up the arse from the Bankers. That's the point of the video. How are the people who made it then 'simpletons' you idiots?

@kerronoluain The 'we all partied' line is pure spin, aimed at making the population feel that what is happening now is their own fault.

@JebusOGoldberg To absolve the borrower entirely of blame is myopic. Personal responsibility is not the done thing in Ireland.
