Love this intro. The drums start like the songs about to take off, But then it just levels off, and cruises along. This is my driving song right here.
@221idk If thats true thats Pretty cool! I've always loved this song. I can remember the first I heard it. My brother went to K-Mart and bought the album and we stopped off on our way home to cop a lid and when we got home our parents had already left to go to Toronto for the weekend, and we lived in Temperance MI. so we knew they wouldn't be breaking up our big ass party we had planned for the 4th of July but they came home the next night and busted our party up Shit, that was in 1976 or 77
@Ardalla555 I know it is the original cut...BUT..around the late 80's..early 90's ZZtop went in the studio and "modernized" the recordings by enhancing them with reverb and short digital delays..this version is "post" mixdown..you can still find cd's of the original mix..without the reverb and such..
@fistchips Only problem wuth that remix was deans and peavey shit replaced. Replaced gibson tone and Marshall gain...If you play you will get it...no offence
@fistchips@fistchips Actually this is not THE original version, the original was done by 60's San Antonio psychedelic band "The Children" a couple of years earlier. Billy Gibbons collaborated on it, and took it with him to ZZ Top later.
Nurneberg FRG, 1987, New Years eve, there was this German band, they played the shit out of this song all night long, it just kept getting better and better,! Awesome song!

One of my all time favorites to be sure. The lyrics...um...somewhat questionable content??? LOL! Maybe he's singing about an adopted stepdaughter in a fatherly sense, I dunno.
Not calling her "daddy" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH no, you severely misunderstood that one. My goodness. No, he would call (as in phone call) her father. Damn dude thats one fucked up way of hearing it!!!
@drquesadilla I didn't think he was calling the girl "daddy"...the questionable part is that Francine has just turned 13 yrs. old. The narrator of the song clearly isn't her father, since he would "call her daddy and get his gun". So he's basically in love with a young child. That's all I was sayin'. You know; very underage? I knew he wasn't calling Francine "daddy". Damn, where can I get some of whatever you're smokin' over there. LOL!
Choosing a favourite ZZ Top track is difficult as they're all great, but for me this has to be it .

Great track, sounds a lot like the Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar". I can see why the Stones like this band. Long may ZZ Top reign. :-D
