  • Nice trackwork.

  • what is the radius curves of your helix? nice layout, keep up the good work

  • @km09bengal The radius on the helix are 33 1/2 and 36''

    Thanks

  • Cool.

  • Update: The top of the helix now has most of the mountain built on top of it (still in the plaster stage). We have not been able to work on it in a regular basis so it is taking a long time. Once the mountain is done enough to remove the protective tape from the track I will try to post an updated video.

  • Looking good! Any recent progress?

  • We have been busy with all the summer outdoor projects that keep everyone busy, so I hope that we will return to work on the layout at the end of summer or early fall. So check back every once and a while, when we have made some changes there will be another video posted.

  • I have posted some photo updates of the mountain on top of the helix. We have had a couple of weeks to work on it and the mountain is starting to look good... check it out.

  • how long will it be until you finish this layout?

  • It's a friends layout and I am helping with it, but it will be some time before it's is complete. But I do believe that a lot will get done this year. We have played with it long enough to know that the track work is fine and found a few things that needed changing. Currently he is working on some buildings and I think in a month or two that some of the scenery will get started which will give it a whole new look. When there is enough change I will post another video to keep you updated.

  • The layout looks great. I love the helix. I went with the hexagon type to save on 3/4 inch plywood. I also see you used treaded rod. Great for minor adjusting. You guys keep up the good work.

  • Thanks, We used 7/16'' plywood and masonite to laminate the pieces together. Then we used masonite strips approx 1'' wide and long enough to span the threaded rod and to support the masonite there is a washer under it and two nuts, the second nut is a jam nut to make sure nothing moves. The plywood just rest on the strips, so it is free floating. This was our first attempt and it has worked for over a year now without any problems.

  • Cool. For some strange reason, I like the layouts with or without the scenery.

  • Nice job man!

  • Thanks, it's my friends layout and it is going to take some time to finish. We run a lot of different things on here to check the track work and make sure that it will work, this is how we find out what will work and what needs to be changed and of course we come up with some new ideas as well.

  • cool cnt wait to see it finished
