  • this, ladies and gentleman, is preserved by the library of congress.

  • this was horrible i had to watch stupid crap like this for 40 minutes today in class... enough to drive a guy nuts

  • i used to like this... till i took an arrow to the knee

  • An incredible piece of art. This is where psychedelia and the avant-garde meet.

  • This is one of the coolest films ever made.

  • What I'd like to see in the Registry? Too many to name. I'll do a short list (5 shorts and 10 features):

The Musketeers of Pig Alley; Make Way for Tomorrow; The Shanghai Gesture; Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome; Pickup on South Street; A Time to Love and a Time to Die; A Bucket of Blood; Cosmic Ray; Report; Titicut Follies; The Act of Seeing With One's Own Eyes; Two-Lane Blacktop; Bring Me the Head of Alferdo Garcia; Out of the Blue; Love Streams

  • First I absolutely love this film, but 2001's ending is almost as good as this and was trying to do something different. Seeing that ending in 70mm is mindblowing. 2001 is one of those films which suffers A LOT when watched on DVD or even Blu-ray.

  • oh my freakin gosh!!!!!!!

    this...is...

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!

  • This is one of the coolest things I've seen on YouTube...

  • fucking hipsters

  • whats it mean?

  • This is awesome! Pure Hippie goodness!

  • I saw this in college around 2001. Of all the short films on that DVD set, this is THE ONE I had to tape a copy of. I still have the VHS and project it every now and then. It's amazing to see it on the garage wall! Just image having free reign of all that color videotape equipment, in 1967 no less! I would feel like a kid in a candy store.

  • Hi!

I have a couple of questions, du you have the Scott Bartlett VHS ripped? could you share it? i need it in hq but it's impossible to get one here in Spain.. Thanks!

  • Note the different end credits, as compared to the 1968 version, also on Utube, which puts the credits first and changes attribution. The latter version was made from an interneg which compromises some of the color quality seen in this version which was mastered in reversal film stock. In 2004 OffOn was entered into the Library of Congress' National Film Registry. The DVD version distributed by the National Film Preservation Foundation is the poorer 1968 version.

    Tom (DeWitt) Ditto

  • this certainly knocked me out when I saw it shortly after Scott made it. You have to remember that this is a 16mm film and Scott and Tom Dewitt made single frame edits (24 frames per second) to create this masterpiece.

  • modular synth goodness!

  • oh i justt saw you have that posted as well..

do you have and can you post serpent and the making of??? medina is also amazing and shows middle eastern ttribes men breakdancing.

  • your forgeting that glen mckay of the headlights lightshow was also in the studio doing liqueds tthat were then fed tthrough a video camera and effectts bank. there is a great film called the making of offon were nhe explains his philosoph and technics in front of a class of students who take his outtakes as well as some cew footage and make a remix.circa 1980. thanxx for this posting of one of the great overlooked film makers whos imagery became icons of a generation.

  • This is an historic classic. This blew many minds back in 1967, (and was before Kubrick's "2001"). Glad to see this on YouTube.
