And to add to that, the 1996-98 Bulls were the complete opposite. An absolute dominant home team in Finals games, going 8-1, with their only United Center setback coming in Game 5 of the '98 Finals to the Jazz, but merely a subpar Finals road record of 4-5..you can talk about the 1996 Bulls all you want, but I'd put money on the 1992 team of a PRIME Jordan and Pippen, great players in Horace Grant, B.J. Armstrong, John Paxson, Bill Cartwright, Scott Williams etc..

Amazing fact: The Bulls were an almost unbeatable in Finals games on the road..8-1 all-time from 1991 to '93. Winning 3 straight at The Forum against the Lakers in '91, 2 out of three against Portland in '92, and all 3 in Phoenix in 1993. Now, contrast that with their record at Chicago Stadium in world championship games from 1991 through 1993..a very mediocre 4-4. This first three-peat Bulls team was truly special, better than the '96-98 version, IMO.

Oh man, Richard Dumas, or should I say Richard Dum-ass. As a longtime Suns fan, this guy may be the most disappointing player in the history of the franchise. He had unbelievable talent and was headed towards being a guy that was an All-Star every single year, he had the total game, but couldn't overcome his rabid drug addiction.

The thing that gets me is the fact the suns lost so many home games during the 93' playoffs. They nearly lost against the lakers in round one and to beat them twice in LA. THe first two games against Chicago was at home and they lost. So, they had to go win in Chicago. Then... game 5.. came back to Phoenix with the upper hand and lost at home!!!!!!!!!! still KILLS ME!!

The ironic thing is, they were GREAT at home. And they needed all the home games to beat Seattle and San Antonio. But LA had so much more size and the pace slowed down...right into that Slowtime Lakers team advantage. And well, Chicago had MJ. MJ as Bill Fitch rightfully called him was "the great eraser of mistakes".

@divinesense This is out there but it had to have been the shoes. Almost every other team switched to black shoes for both home and away games during the playoffs. Not the Suns. They sticked with their black shoes on the road and white shoes at home. I think this mentally made them look softer at home. (Idk call me crazy but for some reason black shoes just looked more tough to me lol) The Suns corrected this during the 1994 playoffs but it was too little too late.

@110degrees In the 1994 Western Conference Semifinals versus Houston, the Suns came back to Phoenix leading 2-0 and promptly dropped Games Three and Four at home to the Rockets, despite the black sneakers. The Suns should have swept the series and instead they lost in seven.

The bottom line is that when Charles Barkley constitutes your team's primary personality, you're bound to be too complacent and unfocused too often.

It's kind of sad that the Suns even needed a triple OT to win this game considering how poorly Jordan and Pippen both played. Jordan was 19/43 with 44pts and Pippen was 12/35 for 26pts. Pippen was horrible and Jordan was bad. When you need 43 shots to score 44pts...lol that is not a good thing.

19/43 isn't bad, but it just meant that the points didn't come quite as easily for Jordan and that slight struggle was largely because Kevin Johnson guarded him in this game (and in Games Five and Six).

Also, Pippen nearly produced a triple-double by adding 10 rebounds and 9 assists (plus 3 steals), B.J. Armstrng produced 21 points on 10-17 field goal shooting and 7 assists against 1 turnover, Horace Granted contributed 13 points and 17 rebounds, and Scott Williams added 14 boards.

@Iggy3 Agree. Actually I think the game has gone through a bit of a revival lately with the young talent in the league, but from about 1993 for 15 years afterwards the game really struggled. NBA Finals games really went down in quality after 1993. As much as I love NBC I think the 80s were the best time for the NBA, and the NBA's peak was right around 1987 or 1988.

Barkley is my favorite player all time. and i got interest so much on nba basketball because of Barkley and since his trade to phoenix. But we have witness good nba finals still since 93. Spurs vs Pistons 2005 finals was not lame at all. and we are all witness also to good playoffs series like the bulls vs celtics in 2009 and raptors vs sixers in 2001.

and Kobe Bryant is the best basketball player to see today. and dont forget must see BG or blake griffin.

i think its better than what weve seen during the 80's and early 90's were a lot of young guys with a lot of promising talents cant show themselves on the nba because of drug problems. guyz like len bias (RIP) and chris washburn. they should be one of the best. compare to today players, although influenced more of hiphop music shows a lot of discipline in love of the game.
