  • I think we all have to agree that she has definately got some real talent here!

However, I could take up the harp and get someone to teach me which strings to pluck and when for a grade 8 piece. I think it'd be better for you to work on her intonnation first! Would be MUCH nicer to listen to if there wasn't so many screeches! :) I don't mean that negatively because it's remarkable that she's able to play this so I hope you see my point! :)

  • ... Kinda unfair to rush this child. I mean, she will be an absolutely stunning violin player, but she kinda needs to proceed at her own pace, so I feel sad that she's already been pushed onto Grade 7, when she's not really ready.

In my opinion, it's much more impressive for someone to take lots of time and get good at an instrument rather than being some child prodigy who achieves Grade 8 before their 3rd birthday.

    Don't rush music!

Also, your left hand pinky should be pointing "up", instead of being curled. If you curl your pinky whilst you play, it restricts the amount of flexibility your fingers can have. This means that with difficult string crossings, like crossing over to the fourth position on the G/D strings, you are likely to upset the tone a little, making it a decible flat or sharp.

However, I think you are doing a fantastic job, keep it up!

    Thanks.

  • Great playing, thanks.

I think your main concern is "moving". Whilst playing, try to restrict your body movement, just limit it to your arms and hands. Your "swing" motion is what disrupts your violin tone and it's what upsets your bow arm, making you squeak whenever crossing strings.

  • Congrats on the acheivements! What an adorable child!

The tone quality is very harsh and squeaky and the string crossing could be more consitent. Shame on you teacher, rushing a young girl who can't really play the basics. I suggest you revise the bascis and you'll be a great violinist.

And for the tutor you can't just rush your pupils.

  • First off, congratjulations on achieving grade 7 at such a young age. However, this piece requires lots of work to even achieve a passing mark at the ABRSM exam standard. Firstly, the intonation is out most of the way, especially in the fourth position and above. Secondly, there is a big tendency for you to squeak and squeal when you go to higher notes on the E string. Lastly, you tend to touch another string by accident. If these could be fixed, then its a job well done.

  • Thank you very much for the helpful remarks.
