This really isn't my sort of music but I got to hand it to Elkie Brooks: this is a good song she made great. I remember when this came out (30+yrs ago) it was on the jukebox at my local and the bikers and greebos who frequented the place (a big suburban London gaff that had live bands at weekends, part of the NWBHM scene) always seemed to round off their more predictable selection choices with this one.
classic. she is and will always be timeless. what a classic voice, i love this timeless and effortless music. she deserves to made a dame to ENGLISH music.
Elkie was lost to me, just her name came back into my head for some reason, listened to her voice again for the first time in years...A superior artist if ever there was one.
Her music brings back such happy memories for me, oh happy Days, if only we could rewind. We always think the grass is greener on the other side, when all the time, i had won 1st prize, just couldn't see it.
Seen last night at Bury St Edmunds. She is still so special, wowing the audience with a skill crafted from 50 years of being at the top of music business. I love Elkie Brooks. Her latest album is not to be missed. Powerless is Elkie at her best.
I was 19 when this was released. Became a big big fan there and then. Got every album and still go to see her in concert, last year finally getting to meet the lady herself. Got two more visits planned this year....... Could never tire of watching and hearing Elkie...
Lol,I was 17 tht year,(jeeze),& sang this to death,in my own far inferior way,I hasten to add, hahaha! The following year I was lucky enough to see her in concert & she spied, from the stage, tht I'd smuggled a quarter sized bottle of cognac into the venue,(naughty, naughty)! She looked str8 at me,pointed at the bottle,(gulp),& said, socco volce,"If you give me a swig of that,I won't get you thrown out" Lol.I was happy to oblige,& she signed the label,whoo-hoo! Damn,I lost that bottle, : (
This song just feels so full of hope and reminds me of how happy and excited I felt about life as a child in the early 80s, I want to feel like that again!
BBC4 will be showing this performance later in the year (maybe September time) and at when this point all editions exist from 1977.

We didn't know back in 1977 that 18 years later, a British singer named Berri will be covering this song, Berri sang the chorus only!
