My gran would take me to a monster double bill athe cinema after school in the early 70's - I remember watching king kong versus godzilla and destroy all monsters for 25 pence.
i had an idea for movie like this called "monster battle" i haven't come up for a story line but i have thought of some monsters that should be in it Godzilla mechagodzilla king kong kin ghioradon (i know i spelt that wrong) gammera (BTW i didnt know who that was until i saw this video) mothra kiyru spinosaurous (from jurassic park III..i was gonna use the T-rex but the spinosaurous killed it) destroya mecha king kong
But Mechni-Kong was an American creation. He first appeared in the American King Kong cartoon from 1966 called "The King Kong Show". This film was a loose adaptation of that cartoon. This project was brought to Toho by Rankin/Bass who produced the cartoon series. Toho co-produced this film with them.
I hate what movies are on the Scy-Fy channel now. They think godzilla movies aren't worth crap while they believe movies like Megashark vs. Giant Octopus and Mongolian Death Worm are classics. It's gay!
As much as I hate the Godzilla suits after Mothra vs Godzilla,Destroy All Monsters was always my favorite as a kid. Now, after seeing the Japanese version of Godzilla and King Kong vs Godzilla, it comes third.
When I was a kid, I'd look for the 50 cent coupons in the local newspaper: a quadruple-feature WITH Godzilla on Saturday?! I am THERE! Oh-COOL! Godzilla versus The Smog Monster (Hedorah!). Sic 'im, Godzilla! I give them 50 cents and a coupon, and I get to watch Godzilla movies all-DAY! That's a STEAL! Let me IN!
Yeah they got their use out of the Baragon suit..it was in D.A.M. and Frankenstein Conquers The World, and it was used to create several Ultraman monsters.
Since Eiji Tsuburaya worked for Toho, and his son owns the company that created Ultraman, (TPS) it was easy for them to pass around suits and props and stuff. Probably helped to keep costs down to a point too.
I think the elder Tsuburaya helped his son with Ultraman too, thus the look\sound\feel of a Toho movie.
You can say THAT again....in the 70's when I was a teen, these movies were on UHF and regular TV.
They were everywhere. And WPIX 11 (New York) had Chiller Theatre, and they played MANY of the Toho films.
And then there was WNEW 5 and Creature Features that played Hammer horror films, as well as many 50's and 60's B-movie horrors, like "Attack Of The Crab Monsters."
I lived in the last great day for TV. Sad thing too..everything is either politics or reality shows.
dude for sure!...i couldn't wait for the weekends....first all star wrestling...then the untouchables ....and then the creature features on indpendent channels like 18 in milwaukee...these would play all nite....man those were the days!...mid to late 70's!
..it was shock theatre...all the universal movies and then the toho films...fridays and saturday nites were the shit!...and then after the monster movies....don kirshners rock concert!.....
I'm right with ya' sir! The UHF stations carried a monstrous variety of movies of all types on the weekends, and weeknights.
WKBS (Philly 48) had Star Trek, Lost In Space, The Night Gallery, The Outer Limits, you name it. WPHL 17 had Dr. Shock and Nightmare Theate and God knows what else.
Also, at 0:43-the older man in the forefront of the scene is Toho legend Yoshio Tsuchiya, who starred in the 1960 sci-fi classic "The Human Vapor", or "Gasu Ningen Dai-Ichigo", which translates as "Gas Man Number 1."
Tsuchiya also came up the Xian dialect that was deleted from "Monster Zero," where he played the leader of the aliens from Planet X.
Tsuchiya was also in "Seven Samurai" as the firebrand cleric, Rikichi. GREAT actor!
Well bull I am sure we all wondered if they would do one of those, and there were talks but it was a no go..check it out its written on the internet somewhere forgets addy tho!Look it up and see,and I think it would be a draw too cause no way either company wants a winner in that hands down would shame the prideful parties..lol "Go Zilla Ha Ha"!!
The 60's and 70's was absolutely the greatest era to be a kid. Things were so fun, exciting and the future seemed so bright...I really feel sorry for kids today.
Why did king kong vs. godzilla? First of all, godzilla is over 400 feet tall and king kong is only like 50 feet tall. Second of all godzilla could beat king kong's butt. And third king kong isn't an officail toho production!!!!!!
Actually, Godzilla was never 400 feet tall or over. The sizes he has been are: 164 feet, 262 feet, 328 feet, 171 feet, and 197 feet. In "King Kong vs. Godzilla," Godzilla was 164 feet and King Kong was 148 feet, so they did match up pretty good.
Back then, all special effects were mediocre, Japanese or American. You can't be too mean. These films were made in the 50's, 60's, and 70's, way before CGI.
Man I love this shit! They don't make flicks like these anymore! Fuck the hollywood special effects these days, give me the rubber suits, the fake buildings, and the toy weapons!! This is CULT shit right here baby!!!
True..but then Plan Z wouldn't have brought him back to Earth for the sequel, 'War Of The Monsters', aka "Gammera VS. Barugon" (not Baragon).
He was a lizard that shot a cone of cold out of his mouth and had a destructive heatwave he emanated from his back fins, that looked like a rainbow. Of Gammera's old foes, he was the most interesting outside of Gyaos, everyone's favorite flying foxbat.

He was one of the first monsters ever. Yeah he's pretty simple but you have to take in to consideration no other giant monster was around at that time, save for the Dinosaurs in The Lost World. Kong set the way for others. Without Kong, there would be no Gojira.
Damn straight. Hell, Eiji Tsuburaya even wanted to make Godzilla stopmotion, but because of the time constraints and budget, they went with the suit as a last resort.

Yep, it was a giant mirror. And,
to reduce the effect of the violence in
