OH MY GOODNESS! NEVER KNEW OF THIS MAN UNTIL JUST NOW. I KNOW OF OJOGE DANIEL, I.K DAIRO, TUNDE NIGHTINGALE, VICTOR UWAIFOR etc. AS THE OLDIES ICONS. AND I RESPECT THEM ALL. BUT SINGING WITH THIS KIND OF VOICE IN YORUBA LANGUAGE IS QUITE AMAZING. The voice, rhythm and style is similar to those of the African American Classics. Now, I can add 2+2 together= Same people. This is History come to light and I urge those who have more of our history locked up to bring them into the OPEN.
His voice sounds so much like Robert Johnson's voice on 'Hot Tamales & Red Hots' it's amazing. It's from 'Juju Roots', and is one of my all time favorite pieces of music, so beautiful, has almost a Buddy Holly quality in some ways.
Thank you so much for posting this cultural heirloom on youtube. Irewolede Denge (correct spelling of his name) was always the shadowy, almost apocryphal figure behind the story of the development of Yoruba popular musical, the one with the fine voice, etc., but about whom little was known or documented. The above title is actually of a different song, which is not included in the video. If you could lay your hands on that, please do go ahead and make our day! God bless!
Thanks for this great classic. I had recording last around 1956/57. My dad had the plate. Please can you put the other side of the plate on youtube.
