i heard that the venom these things have can kill a person is that true? i know the box jelly fish is the deadliest but i was curious if these were deadly?
fun fact: Some species of octopi will seek out a Man o' War and, being immune to its toxins, tear off its tentacles and use them as weapons against other species.
wow. i'v never seen one in real life, i go to daytona beach florida, and panama city beach florda, i'v been going for 8 years maybe, i'v never seen one.
I have visited Daytona beach numerous times since I was three years old. I am going there this summer at age 18. I have always been facinated with the jellyfish and have developed some "Be careful not to step on the jellyfish" skills. I also missed the stingrays. My dad would hold me up high so I would be able to look down and watch them swim right under us. I also swam with a wild manatee at daytona. However, I think he only liked me for my sparkily bathing suit Xo X)
Anytime an ecological niche is available, an organism will evolve to exploit that niche. From an ecological viewpoint, the purpose it serves is to take its place in the food chain in order to keep everything in balance.
If its niche eventually disappears (such as its food supply drys up or another organism outcompetes it, then the Man O''War will go extinct.
It is interesting to note that 99% of all species that have ever lived on this planet have gone extinct.
i knew that, i was just questioning why it is such a pointless formation of animals. Not bones, no really body. Just a hub of lots of little critters being annoying.
Tentacles could draw out up to 50 feet long. Next time you see one, be careful because they are fucking poisonous. I also agree with you, 99% of the species have either evolved or have been extinct.
Everything has a place.Maybe to keep our sorry butts out of the water. We do way more damage than any animal but our egos say its OK we are the most important beings on the planet.
If sea creatures are capable of thought processes, they might wish that we go away so we stop ruining their enviroment. If it's a choice of them or us, I choose us, but we are messing them up a lot more than the relatively small percentage of stings we get.
By the way, can you tell me how humans benefit the planet from their point of view?
@ca1234ts well the nomure jellyfish is pretty much ruining the fishermans job in japan ... so i guess their gettiing back at us for ruinging the see ?
@ca1234ts because sea life that threatens jellyfish is getting smaller their population is growing. because there are not as many sea turtles to hunt them we should take it upon ourselves to kill them
Ude those things suck. I was at that beach the 22nd. I went into surf. I got stung on my leg and had a red mark on my leg for 2 days. and the pain wsa really bad. it was a goood story for Christmas lol.
Why should there be a why at all? I can't think of any actual reason for my existence or, for that matter, your existence. I don't need that kind of justification for existing.
From yahoo: The basic purpose of life appears to be to propagate life, and not necessarily to develop and advance the earth. All life forms are passengers on earth, & the earth might be better off without any passengers. However, if the earth was populated with only one life form, likely it would not survive. Even bacteria produce alcohol and poison their own environment (alcohol kills bacteria). Many life forms (animals & plants) depend upon each other for food or to scatter and fertilize seeds
Why do they exist? There is no real explanation for this. It is a question humans have asked for thousands of years... "Why do I exist?" "what is the purpose of life?"
