  • Beatiful guitarmusic.

  • Just incredible performance!!! True live music!

  • this is not to see who's best...this is enterainment at its best...get a grip people!

  • And then, at the end, they kind of reprise part of the outro section of their Royal Albert Hall performance of "Meeting of the Spirits" (Feb 14, 1979), mindful, perhaps, of audience expectations. Still a good performance, though.

  • An interesting performance. JM seemed distracted, not focussed enough to pull off the transcendent statements that populate his better performances. The chops were there, but the intentional cohesion wasn't. Paco was encouraging him, trying to spark the magic of spontaneous interplay.

  • the song is a combination of more tunes, most notably "alta mar"(the starting section) and "zyryab"(end section) from paco de lucia; and a record, whose name i don't remember(middle part), from john mclaughlin.

    anyways.. enjoy

  • Paco best of the best

  • Does anybody know who wrote this tune? It beautiful.

  • the composer is mister JOHN MCLAUGHLIN, from record "music spoken here", 1981.

    good recording.

  • wow why are you guys fighting for these musicians like they were sports teams? these are two giants of the guitar's history playing together and they can play together because they are on the same page as each other. they click, and that transcends talent which is obvious in both of them

  • @guitarvirtuoso53 Yes, my friend, you are so right !

Sports in fact belong to this adolescent human race, we are just starting to become a Young and responsible HUman Race, thanks to our change of awareness, trascending Wars, Competition, Egos, and entering a New Age where competition will be history!

In Fact indeed, these guitar geniuses, are not competing, they are talking with their magnificent instruments !

  • McLaughlin is an excellent improviser, but Paco has the edge for the variety of sonorities he manages to achieve with his much broader technique.

  • i hate it when people make comments like these, "he kicked his ass" and such... as if they were competeing.

they are both great, and the fact that 2 great musicians with different background and stiles play together is priceless.

  • to play with with a pick is as difficult as to play with fingers; both of them are just different ways and different difficulties (just look at the picking technique of di meola and here of john)

  • Most people find it harder to play scales fast and even with fingers, runs with Stringskipping or even number of notes are often easier with fingers though.

  • the notes at 1:25 are not clear, he is trying to emulate the phrasing of a flamenco guitar player with a pick.

  • the notes are not clear ? perhaps you should consult an ear specialist

  • John is using too much reverb, I do not need a doctor, paco´s teachnique is much harder to develop, he can play a full classical concerto, Mclaughling can only play 1 note at a time and the tone he gets out of each of the six string is similar meanwhile Paco can make each string sound with a distinctive nuance

  • bravo Paco

  • I don't think that's very kind - can't we congratulate both players?

  • They´re both great ofcourse, but in this particular video I just think that John can´t keep up. But yes you are absolutley right, I congratulate both of them.

  • Yeah actually I'd have to agree! His skill is incredible, truly incredible.
