its a great idea, (particularly the battery drop idea) but i think the main problem with these cars is the infrastructure that would have to be put in place in order for them to actually be worth buying, we have a world that revolves around oil and petrol and i doubt that is about to change and when it does you can bet it will be a slow painful process!

WEll a lot of people blame oil, but in fact the biggest obstacle in the US is the spare parts industry. Gas motors require huge amounts of spare parts, because they're so complicated. They require teams of technicians to keep them running smoothly, but an electric car is pretty basic. They have very few moving parts, and no need for all the complicated timing systems, belts, valves, injectors, and other parts that are profitable to so many.

The electric car will put a lot of people out of work.

Think about how un safe those small cars are. I, myself, drive a 2003 Cadillac Escalade and if one of those cars, like the Toyota FT-EV II was ever to cross my path, boy...not a good sight. By making these electric cars, they think we'll make the switch. People are going to stick to their sedans, minivans, trucks, ect. I just read in a Motor Trend that the Nissan Leaf is going to start at the lower $30,000 dollar range! For that small of a car? Why don't you give me a unicycle and charge me 10g!
