actually, carp have throat teeth. impossible as it seems, carp have plates in their throats that allow them to grind up what food is sucked up. (carp and koi, which are the same thing, eat almost anything.)

Here in the US these are an invasive species that displace more desirable native fish. I understand they are an important food source in asia but here they are out of control and destructive to our ecosystem. That is why we destroy them as often as possible. They just don't belong here. We have river bottom farm that is at the junction of two rivers and in the spring there are literaly thousands of them spawning in the shallow water.

carp will try anything within reason, curiosity is a carp. Thats why you can use something really wierd on your hook and catch a carp, in order for a carp to know if it can eat it then it must suck it in to taste. :o).. On hard fished waters wierd baits not ever seen can catch more than those they see every day. Anyway nuf this im off to give matt hayes some more tips.

Carp fishing isn't really that big here. It is more of a British thing if I am not mistaken. Carp are usually caught accidentally while catfishing, at least in my experience. Also carp aren't considered a food fish here by most people. Even if they aren't a food fish, however, they can get pretty big and are fun to catch.

Check your state fishing records, carp will always out weigh your crappie, your pike, your bass but not your catfish. Both of these fish are bottom feeders, although some cats do prefer live food, but arent really particular. Carp are not just fun to catch, but very tastee too! Dont be afraid of trying something new, and if you think there are too many of them, catch some and take them home and eat them.

@Chyaku im a british angler myself and hate to see anykind of fish die, but out in a america the carp which is known to them as the asian carp is a dangerous fish as it can spawn up to 3 times a year and is eating all the algy. the reason why americans kill carp is becuase the amount of carp that is in the rivers is sky high and there is a risk now that all over fish will die and there will be no more fish except for the carp. hope this helps. found this information on a  nature show
