See this is what I hate...it takes me forever to hear about stuff like this. Didn't hear about Jimmy Franklin, Bobby Younkin, Jim Leroy, and Shockwave until years or months after it happens. Hardly anything ever gets brought up about it at the Quad City Air Show that I attend every year..At least I heard about Kyle Franklin and his wife a month after it happend...hopefully his wife pulls through. Long live Air Shows!

dam he would be the only guy in history to lay a big rig on its side at over 200mph and walk away. thats why he runs the jets on diesel instead of jet fuel. cause diesel is a slow burning fuel, if that was on jet fuel it would have no doubt exploded and burnt to the ground probably with him still in it. glad he is ok i would kill to see the shockwave live.... 1st person i would kill would be that blind as a bat comentator, " oh it appears he has veered off to the side" ...

The truck was totaled!!...but he built a new one using the 3 original jet engines....just saw him this past weekend at edinburg international racetrack

No. You can see he gets out of the truck shortly after coming to a stop. Only very minor injuries, thanks to excellent roll cage inside the truck.

I was probably the parachute that didn't open that caused the crash.

The braking force from the one that did open was probably mostly applied to one side of the truck, wich caused it to turn and tip over. Good thing that the driver didn't got hurt.

My thoughts exactly on the parachute imbalance causing the swerve. I'm guessing it was so severe that Kent could not steer out of the sideways skid.

I was there and my dad is in the air force and he treated the guy for injuries and he was fine but he was realy mad about his truck. also the jet on the end is a c-5 jet.

what happened was that one of the 2 stop chutes didnt open, therefore resulting in unbalanced forces.

I was there, and yes, one of the parachutes didn't open. That runway is 300 feet wide (It was the longer one at Westover Air Reserve Base), and for that thig to go that far over to the side was pretty remarkable. I will never forget the sense of relief the whole >100,000 people there at the time, after we found out the driver is unharmed. I remeber the C5 Galaxy that took off before this was circleing around the airport waiting for the runway to be cleared so it could land.

My best guess, he's supposed to have two chutes IIRC and only see one. There wasn't enough air to stop the truck and he stomped the brakes. He may not even have front brakes and when one or more tires locked physics took over. A sliding wheel will pass a rolling wheel at speed. I've seen this truck several time and sad to see it's demise but glad Kent was OK. Both the Motz and Shockwave have encountered disaster. Hoping for better days for both you guys.

Parachute malfunction was said to be the possible cause. The driver walked away from it. Yes, he is working on a new, improved Shockwave truck.

I was at the airshow when this happened. When I saw it happened, I first thought it was flipping over, but it was really hard to see with the smoke. When it stopped it was right side up and over the P.A. they first thought it just veered off the runway. Great video to show what happened.

i am part of the family, the title doesnt offend much, but i dont think some people realize the severity of the crash, i mean one thing different and i may not have an uncle today. we were fortunate to get out of it with just the truck destroyed and not family

Having watched my master HD footage at full resolution a dozen times, I am much aware of the severity of the crash and I'd say your uncle is VERY fortunate that the truck's safety features worked to protect the cab interior. Considering the speed involved, he was lucky that it was a best-case scenario though. I know Lisa is naturally upset and I can empathize with her situation, as such I wrote her a polite and private PM.

This just goes to show STUPID some people are. If you do not know what you are talking about find out before you post. The Shockwave is not a ROCKET truck it has jet engines, it was bad for the fans and the show not to mention the Shockley family! The Disaster title is VERY VERY inapproiate! Kent is very lucky to have walked away with no injuries. I wish that people would be THANKFUL instead ofposting these types of videos to get their name out there!! Think about the families involved please!

Chill out... it was a disaster.. I'm sure if you were driving the thing you would have thought it was a disaster too!! He walked away, and the poster of this video is NOT looking for attention with his title. He posted this for those of us who could not even get IN THE GATE, because the traffic was soo rediculous! It was a tasteful document of real life.. and I thank him and everyone else who documented and posted this event for those of us who could not even get in!

I personally have spoke to Kent and he is not offended by these videos being out here. As a matter of fact, they told me to look here so that I could see what happened. I know that I have studied this particular video several times in order to try and help give Kent more perspective on what I saw happen.

I appreciate the excellent footage that basspig has shared with us.

Also, Kent is doing great and in good spirits. The rebuild of the truck will be very extensive but it will be done.

Great to see his door open so quickly. I'm a huge Airshow and NASCAR fan and that was about as tame as a rollover as it gets. I know any crash at those speeds can be Fatal, but the Shockley's got lucky there that the truck didn't catch an edge and flip more then it did. This is why they build that thing like a Tank
