  • would be cheaper to get a dremel and bits, can use it for more than etching also. Probably $30 for a multi-speed dremel and 24+/- bits.

  • Templates at 1:20 look like she stole them from preschoolers.

  • Oh, I forgot I had access to the brewery down the street. No mention of proportions, where to get materials locally, or anything helpful. I can get stuff online left and right but that doesn't support local business'.

  • @Brraaaappify I think she mentions the proportions of what you need in the book. I think they also might have a guide online for at home brewing.

  • there are also chemicals that can decay the glass. I used it once when I was little, you paint the chemical onto a glass and it makes it foggy, you can etch it without a lot of machinery :)

Thumbs up so everyone can see :)

  • after i saw this tut, i actually bought that glass engraver you mentioned. one of my best friends turned 21 a couple weeks ago and i customized a shot glass including her birthday, horseshoes (she LOVES horses and teaches riding), and paisley/flowers that represented her hippie themed party. she loved it to (literal!) tears!!! thanks threadbanger!

  • however, i made my own mask with a quilting square and some yarn and got a pair of safety goggles...

  • Do you think you could do a glass etching episode using corrosive liquids instead of tools?

  • Engraving stores put glass objects under running water while etching to prevent the glass particles from going air born. Does this work with the hand engraver?

  • not really with any type of corded hand engraver it states to keep out of water to prevent electricution....but there are paste types that can be painted on after the design negative is in place that require rinsing afterwards...toxic to touch before rinsed but not glass particles in air

  • sweet! Hey How about some Valentines day ideas on how to make the day special?

  • does anybody knows the song of the threadbanger commercial that starts at 1:30?

  • Safety glasses?

  • guess they would rather breath well then see well? i use safety goggles since the glasses do allow some particles to float around the openings...also can get some masks for auto body work fairly cheap at parts stores or even the dollar stores in this area...cheap vinly or latex disposable gloves and a rag also help to keep your hands and working surface free from glass dust

  • 00:23 i have that sewing machine in light blue!! i like her pink one bettter though(:

  • hey meg, what kind of sewing machine do you have and where did you get it?

  • yummy I'd drink one or three :)

  • ok. I don't have any of that equipment. I'll let others brew it for me then..

  • i use to help dad brew his beer :D

  • I don't think my grandma was that cool :(

  • i used to do chemical etching on glass at school!

  • LOVE the beer thing! and the girl showing how to make it, she's cute :)

  • Glass etching is super cool:D I etched a wine bottle for my friends 21 b-day. Costomizing it with her name and date of birth:D It was easy to do and beautiful.

  • ya gotta see everyones ID or your going to get in trouble!

  • Hi Meg

  • Holy crap! that seemes like alot of work ot bottle your own beer. I'm too lazy to go that far.

  • Me too!

  • Grandmas are the coolest!

  • My husband and I brew our own beer too, for a year now. Store beer doesn't match the awesomeness of your own beer and it is super easy to do. It really is a cheap hobby, how much you put into it is up to you. We payed for a starter kit to get started and that was the most expensive bit, I could have got the instructions online for free and recycled tubs to brew in for nothing. If you want simple; buy the syrup pre made.... or if you want finess go all out and make the wort yourself. Try it!

  • Addicted to dishware. Haha, me too! Great episode.

  • @DesignModern cookware, but yeah me too. I just went out and bought more mixing bowls and some cupcake pans.

but this made in china stuff is the worst. my whisk broke in just 2 weeks of use. Now i make sure i buy american, i'll pay anything for american made products.

  • cool i would love to brew my own beer. :) does it cost much to do it at a store like that?

  • Mmmmm, beer.

  • your pink sewing machine is sooo cute!!!

  • So she's not actually going to tell us at all in the slightest what she's actually DOING to make beer.... I get that Working Class Foodies did a beer episode, but don't you think it's a little lame to not show any of the specifics of the process?

  • Have to agree with the other people - safety glasses! glass shards, no matter how small, can really do serious damage to your eyes!

Or...etch paste. I used some of that in girl guides when I was a kid - super easy to use.

  • Dear Meg, I love your shows every week and watch them all the time. And because of you my nest looks great, but i would also like to deck out my car! How can i do that? What i would really like to know is how to make seat covers for my car!

    Please help if u can!

    <3 LizZARD of OzZ!

  • look up mighty car mods, they are a AU based youtube show, they do some neat stuff. :D

  • Eye protection. Srsly.

  • I'd use glass etch paste, no dust and easier to use.

  • I agree. I did a similar project using etching paste and vinyl from Michael's and it seemed like less of a hassle.

  • Today's episode was a little boring O.o

  • I feel like this show doesnt show me anythin new anmore. It shows me what other people have done that looks wicked and then does like a 30 second version of that project.

  • meg, first of all, your hair looks really cute! (:

second of all, your doggies are freaking adorable. thank you for sharing this with us!

  • Wouldn't it be a good idea to cover your eyes too?

  • You can also etch glass with a sandblaster and contact paper :D It's an art project we do every semester.

  • Meg, in addition to the scarf to protect your nasal passages, you should wear safety glasses!

  • you can also buy the acid and do a template then add the acid over the template It doesnt cost much

  • I loved this How to. I have always wanted to do glass etching but thought I had to buy these big fancy pricey power tools and be super experienced and such.

I'm for sure going to be trying this very soon.

  • I would love to learn how to brew it at home!

  • That's a pretty impractical How-To at the end. I guess she technically made it herself, but about as much as someone who goes to "Build-a-Bear" makes their own stuffed animal. Also, how is this decor?

  • agree

  • If you don't want to buy a bunch of bottles and go through that you can just buy a keg. My dad has a large one and two small ones and then a refrigerator in the garage with two taps coming out of the door. It's pretty cool. Also, with the stuff required for brewing beer you can also make your own root beer and cream soda. Every time my dad does it it turns out much much better than store bought.

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • love that sewing machine in the back round

  • I have a drimmel but have yet to use it. I want to try it now!

  • its really easy to use! its just like drawing with a big pen on glass!!

  • that glass etching was so awesome

  • new hair cut? i like it :) and this glass etching thing is so cool :D

  • my dad has been brewing his own beer for a year or two now

  • You can buy a kit for home made beer for like 50$...

  • I'm confused...I can see why if you buy the book, beer brewing may be something you can do at home, but this video (at least the second part) had nothing to do with DIY or something you can do at home. And if we're really splitting hairs, doesn't really have anything to do with home decor, either.

  • It gives you a starting point to look into home brewing. And, actually, home brewing does have a bit to do with home decor. It takes a lot of stuff to brew your own beer. My dad has been brewing his own beer for some time now and has to have an entire room for it. Right now he is using the entire basement because the smell bothers everyone. Oh, that too, the brewing process stinks.

  • Be sure to not buy the official dremel tools, they are simply daylight robbery !

You can find complete 50 elements tool sets for the price of one diamond dust dremel carving tool.

  • the glass one is good but the beer brewing i dont think any one would ever try that lol...

  • ohh i saw the glasses it was awesome

  • I truly enjoyed this show, keep up the good work!

  • I like the beer brewing how 2!

I'm a big fan of good beer

  • It doesn't really go with the spirit of thrift as it would definitely be much cheaper to buy a six pack. :( And don't get me wrong, it is cool. Very cool. But thrift is often very important to DIYers. 5 stars for the etched glasses, though.

  • Not true, actually very far from the truth. If you like beer, like are close to being an alcoholic (or are one) or have a lot of people come over, or just really like GOOD beer you'll be better off buying the stuff to brew your own. Yeah, the equipment will cost a pretty penny but in the long run it'll be better for your wallet.

  • why do people write first etc, its so dumb

  • the glass etching looks like a lot of fun, but i'd probably break everything by pressing too hard

  • ninth? :D

    Glass etching looks fun!

  • :'o

  • That glass is so cute! Although I would probably add more trees and put it closer to the bottom of the glass.

  • I love these shows! :D
