@ToughGuy6878 i think there may be alternate keyboard layouts on the 2.1 update, but i have an eris with the 1.5 system and typing is very hard. It may just be because my thumbs are huge, but it takes a long time to type, which is made even longer by the recurring lag. Just try one out for a good amount of time before you buy the phone... Other than that I l really like my eris.

IMO, you can't go wrong with either one. The Eris, Moto Droid, and N1 are my favorite Android phones. The Eris will be getting the 2.1 update sometime down the line. Last I heard, the Eris would be getting it by the end of March. That will make the Eris even more badass than it already is.

i have this phone now. its okay, i text a lot so i had about 700 messages from a few people and i noticed that text input slowed down.... i try to delete them and it takes forever, sometimes is doesnt at all. Also i had to purchase an extended battery pack that makes the phone double as thick because from the start of my day til the end, it will not last. The larger battery makes it awkward to hold and type on. Im planning on switching to the blackberry storm 2. any suggestions would be nice!

@sharpsteve21 there is a way to delete them fast, if you go into messages and u go into the delete function and then press menu there u press delete all threads and it will all go away, this also works in email. If i was you i would keep it, my brother has the blackberry storm 2 and i found it hard to use but thats just me

I have a samsung omnia i910 and its really awesome but the droid eris is really nice and its pretty much like the droid or the hero or the htc magic or the samung galaxy except the galaxy doesnt have a trackball but the galaxy is more like the samsung behold II and im really good with phones i have 844 photos of them on my ipod haha! The battery is beyond horrible for this phone. I upgraded to this phone from a blackberry tour & dind't regret it until I found out the battery barely lasts 6-8 hours with little to no use! I had it in my pocket for a days of work, and when I was leaving it was already down to 30%! I can use my blackberry heavy use for a day or 2 and still not need to charge it yet.

It's the same specs as the Hero; how could you say it's better? Unless you're talking about the touch controls (Eris) vs tactile controls (Hero) and the overall feel of the device.

The only problem I've found with the Eris, from what phones I've tried, is that it tends to be a bit laggy at times, especially in the browser and when scrolling.

Verizon has more expensive plans, but has the cheaper phone. Sprint's plans are cheaper, but the Hero is more expensive. Hardware-wise, they are identical.

i just got this phone yesterday.. it cost $200 for the phone, ONLY if you are approved for the discount. if NOT then you will pay full price such as $400.. PLUS you plan which can be up to $100 PLUS a down payment which is $400.. And trust me its not worth it at all. if you are then you will come off as easy as $290 for everything. Good Luck

looks just like a microUSB but it's not. The proprietary jack comes with the phone but would have been a nice feature in case you ever lose it. the other side can either fit into your charger or computer. The headphone jack is standard tho

yeah it locks. the button on the bottom right will put the phone in sleep mode, and even if you press the wake up button, there's no way you can slide it open or unlock it from your pocket.

Droid vs Droid Eris

it seems like this is essentially the Motorola droid

The resolution on the Eris is a lot smaller(320x480 HVGA) than the Droid(854×480). Also, the Eris has 1.5 OS and not the much nicer 2.0 OS. BTW, the Motorola Droid does in fact support pinch and zoom. Its not on the native browser but you can use it with "Dolphin" browser.

And yes, the keyboard is almost useless as I use the virtual one a lot more, but there are a few times where I was very glad I had it!
