  • this kinda reminds me of my plexi-tone by carl martin, the vox is half the price though

  • Why put delay on the clean sound when demoing a pedal...

  • All these "the video sounds bad" comments: get a clue. This is youtube and you are listening through the speakers on your computer. I have high-end speakers and it sounds wonderful (for youtube compression). Looks like a great pedal.

Thanks Paul - love your stuff.

  • @DaNorthernLight Good point.

  • shoulda used a strat or a JS1000

  • nice demo. Just got mine today and I'm really enjoying the sound. ;p

  • Paul, be really cool if you could take all your delay and the grind off your amp in order to hear what the pedal really sounds like. Thanks!

  • hahaha, this man makes every great device sound REALLY BAD, and he talks tooo much, shut up!!! and play

  • that was his clean sound??wtf

  • Hmm... Satchurator does definetly NOT sound anything like this in this demo... its weird how much these guitarworlds reviews can make good gear sound so bad. Seriously, if people decide to buy this pedal by this sound, they are going to be very very amazed when they get the pedal home. For all people reading this: The Satchurator doesnt sound at all like that what we can hear from the video, its like 100000 times better sounding. i have it and i love it!

  • Good demo!

  • I just want to clear something up here to all the people watching this video, i got this pedal as a birthday present recently ( May 9th 2010 ) and let me tell you how misleading this review is, the satchurator is an incredible pedal. It's got so much boost and power behind it that it sounds fantastic, and one of the only signature pedals that actually sounds like the signature guitarist, sounds amazing and can sound like joe exactly and more, you will not be disappointed buying this pedal.

  • Why is pro like Paul Doing with a epiphone i mean their not all bad some are good like the phophecy seris but paul is rich. Even i can afford it and i only get 145,000 dollars a year.

  • @SR5127CL

Seriously, what's wrong with an epi? You can save yourself a lot of money by just swapping pickups. You can really find out if you'd get a gibson or not. I thought with the Pedal it sounded great. Isn't that what matters?

  • @TheVintageZero I completely agree, I have an epiphone les paul standard ultra and I put gibson pickups in and it sounds awesome, I wouldn't trade it for some of the gibson's i've played

  • Joe Satriani and Steve Vai are really giving guitarists access to their unique tone. Probably the best route to get their sound out of your own amp and playing.

  • no true bypass..bad deal

  • The Satchurator has as its basic circuit design essentially the Boss DS-1 circuit, with some minor tweaks.

  • Almost 2 1/2 minutes of talk

SHUT UP AND PLAY so we CAN HEAR IT

  • With a "clean" sound that glittered up, its not really a very good review for an individual effect, is it?

  • Nice demo - I don't mind the echo because I will also being using some.

  • I want a pedal like this but with a "Morer" button as well to re-double the gain for more harmonic effects.

  • I'm sorry if i seem like, i don't know abit troll like, but would anyone else agree this review is rather misleading? i mean he says he has a clean sound, with gain and distortion already activated? so how powerful can this pedal really be? it looks fantastic but that original sound from this guys amplifier really makes me wonder, does anyone else agree with this?

  • I have the Satchurator and it does pack alot of Gain...not Death Metal Gain but alot. Especially for rock and it does Vah Halen stuff with the gain at 7-8.

It's only (-) is the fact that it really needs a Clean tube channel to shine.

  • @Poowetisnub I agree totally.

  • I dunno, just putting 'Satch' on something doesn't make it worth $130 to me. And this mix might sound good with a band behind it, put I think it needs to be a little dryer to really hear what the hell the pedal is actually doing. I hate this guys reviews.

  • right?!?!

Paul's always got a fucking flanger or delay running...

  • your clean is not 'clean'.. (it's 'dirty clean')..

  • Agreed, Clean with Gain.!

  • Yeah you have Satch's tone now..

  • great pedal, but geez this guy is weird... lol

  • I agree. It's hard to judge the pedal when it's not a dry signal! I even hear overdrive on their "clean" channels sometimes!!

  • TURN OFF THE CHEESY DELAY!!!!

That's the one thing that really drives me nuts about these videos is that I can't just hear a dry signal. Come on!!

  • delay isn't cheesy, but here, it is unnecessary. I really like to turn just a tad bit of delay, but it just adds a hint of flavor, if you will, to the sound.

  • At :10 sec he looks so prissy right after he says "satchurator pedal" lol.

  • Right :)

    Sassy little fucker, isnt he?

  • How does this pedal compare to the Marshall Guvnor? That pedal has many settings you can tweak too, and with that it sounds like you're actually playing through a JCM800.

  • Nothing wrong with alot of playing.... god people

  • Actually he's doing what I would do. Put it through it's paces to see if it can give me what I want. Then click around to see the difference the switches actually make.

  • your right there, but at least he plays more than chords. alot of the time when people demonstrate gear, they just riff, so you dont really get a broad register of what it can do

  • Amen this guys got the best job in the world and sucks at it. Let us here the tone of the gear not yer weak ass playing.

  • is that pedal recomended for boost over your dirty channel?

  • well my guitar teacher has one of these and uses it on clean and it sound great but really you have to experiment with it but i imagine it sounds good either way.

  • not bad... great sound for me..! & very2 nice paddle...!

  • what the hell? "here's my clean sound" <-- it was not a clean sound.

  • he must have been cranking his amp to get the best sound and when you crank a tube amp it might get a little dirty

  • clean also means clean of any FX, it could be just the clean channel of the amp but cranked all the way up for an overdriven sound!

  • is this worth buying? I have a ts9 and a boss ds1...would it be worth trashing my boss?

  • of course!

  • jemini is better

  • vox is better than boss

  • jemini is ibanez

  • it sounds like a blues driver when he lowered the volume

  • man that thing sounds real sweet

  • MOAR DISTORTION.

That's actually a really badass way to get moar gain.

  • joe satriani are not matching with epiphone,,

  • u need an English book

  • hahaha,,i think you're right,,

  • You too. It's called dictionary.

  • Sounds great on this video, Direct to clean amp setting, I would bet with amp distortion on and gain high it would clip and over saturate tube circuit or power transistors causing circuit distortion not desirable for guitar amplifiers'

  • Truly an amazing demo! It covers most of the pedal's uniqueness such as the silent processing of the sound and the harmonic content. I have this pedal and I can really say no other distortion compares.

  • i wanna hear this pedal with an ibanez of satch....otherwise it´s just any distortion pedal...nothing special...totally agree with diazcamille

  • the funny thing about this pedal is in these videos i rarely see anyone using satch guitars or amps or even playing close to a satch style, and the pedal sounds like it would work for a totally different style of sound and playing, and yet, when satch goes up on stage and in the studio, he makes the thing sound like whatever he wants. is it just him? is it just that hes the best in the world, or that no one using the pedal uses it for satch stuff?

  • is it a true bypass?

  • i have a valve king 112, a 62 strat reissue, and the satchurator and its great ive yet to play it an a gibson but i did paly it with a music man Luke and it just sings

  • is it worth to buy if ive got an mg30dfx marshall?

  • its an analog distortion, and since the mg series are solid-state amps, it wouldnt work. analog distortions work only with tube-driven amps. if you tried it, it would sound really crappy unfortunately. but what you can get is a tube pre-amp pedal, which takes care of that. they have built-in tubes, so it makes your amp act like a tube. they range anywhere from 30 bucks to 300 bucks.

  • thx a lot for the info

  • can u reccomend a good one or a good company whch makes them

  • sure thing mate. i think the best are the ART ones, the electro-harmonix, and the behringer ones. id go behringer for price, the ART for professional quality, and the electro-harmonix because theyre electro-harmonix. they rock and have never let down a good guitarist for. good luck!!

  • what is ART? sorry im just dumb...do you have the satchurator? thanks

  • Acoustic Research Technology Company

  • save yourself some money guys ...build a dr boogie pedal...has loads of gain and can be quietened with the guitar vol..proper control...i build these babies they are the nuts....do it you won't be dissapointed....i made mine for 25quid,

  • ...he said, as he typed away on a Chinese made keyboard, using a Chinese made mouse, using a Chinese made monitor, and a Chinese made PC with a Chinese made network card.

  • Owned.

  • That's because got loved long time by Chinese massage therapist who charge extra for"happy ending"

  • Dude you feel that? You just got raped!

  • what a sound!

  • I know this pedal is great for shredders, but I play ska punk, I also have quite a few guitar solos which is why Im interested. Does the pedal have a good sound for punk/hardcore style power chords? If it has that and the lead playing potential in one box then thats great.

  • If you like the sound of Joe's powerchords then definitely give it a try.

  • hi..im just wondering if the gain is good enough for grunge,(sonic youth, dinasour jr and nirvana) shoegaze and hard rock..thanks

  • hmm

does anyone tried it with a Fender Blues Deluxe? XD

  • I ran it through an old Twin Reverb with a strat, and I'm afraid to say it didn't sound so hot. I'm sure it's the strat, though; if you use humbuckers it'll probably sound great.

  • Definitely the strat hah.

with hot dimarzios it sounds awesome! too bad I'm too poor to buy it...

  • Haha. Aren't we all?

  • Could you compare it to another distortion pedal with the strat? e.g. It sounds like (insert pedal name here) Because I've got a strat and I'd like to see what you think since you've tried it

  • I like to use the generics; a TS9 Tube Screamer, a BK Butler Tube Driver with a Groove Tube in it, and a Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face. I strongly recommend a TS9, not many things compare to that in my mind, especially for the price.

  • Does the Satchurator have more gain than a TS9?

  • TS9 is an overdrive pedal. Satchurator is a distortion pedal.

    So yes.

  • Oh yeah. Thanks :)

  • Why would anyone want to use a thick distortion with a strat or single coils? Use a Tubescreamer with your strat or pick up another axe ;-)

  • Looks like "Michael J Rocks".

  • If you go to buy this pedal and have a 15watt transistor amp, don't try it at the store pluged into a JSX stack!!

I don't mean this pedal isn't good, just that you need to have the right amp to make it give its best.

  • Well yes, of course.

Try before you buy, and try on an amp you have. Always, always always.

  • What's the rig behind that stomp box? Why nobody explains the things as they should (guitar world in this case)? that pedal is not going to sound like that if you plug it into a shitty amp of course..

I never had enough money to get a good tube amp to make this type of pedals sound good. People don't let be cheated with this stomps, if you have a shitty amp they will sound shitty.

Same goes for Ibanez jemini, boss ds-1 or whatever..

  • The man is too gay but the pedal is amazing i got one and is an orgasm :-P jajajaja

  • with the satchurator and that epiphone i will love to play hocus pocus the gary hoey version oooohh yeahh : D

  • nickweiland he probly got it from his amp....

  • how do you get that delay sound? ive been looking for that for ages

  • its not delay its amp reverb

  • yeah it is listen to 4:24 definitely a delay

  • omg.. this guy is a homo.. but cool review anyways

    SATCHURATOR ROCKS ! ! !

  • I just got one today. It kicks ass. I have many boutique handwired amps and pedals. Trust me, this thing is amazing.

  • Well satch has had a pretty consistent tone from day one so he knows what works...

  • I'm not that in to Satriani, so is this good for stuff other than Satriani? It sounds like one of the best dist pedals I've heard.

  • Well obviously Joe's tone works for non-Satch stuff as well. It's pretty versatile I'd say but definitely try it out first. It's a bit too pricey to just bluntly buy.

  • Well I would never go out and buy something without putting some serious thought into it, no matter how cheap. But is it worth it?

  • It's very much worth checking out.

  • Paul is a very good player, but he really has no clue how to set up his amp and this pedal. It sounds like crap, like all of his demo's.

  • thats his clean sound, jesus christ thats poor

  • I dont think he understands what "clean" means.

  • its an epi if that makes a difference

  • With ibanez guitars, this pedal sounds amazing.

  • then i have to get this.

  • You really should. it is the best distortion pedal ever and if you´re a fan of Satchs tone youll be overwhelmed

    i give it 9 out of 10

  • the more switch is typical Satch getting in solo mode.

  • cool

  • Along the cool sounding Satchurator, I see Paul is getting better in guitar playing! Keep on rockin! :)

  • got it man 100% 100% 100% just the best

it has all three joe"s guitar colors

    (1) RED box (2) SILVER switches (3) WHITE knobs

    HIT THE MUSIC

  • Sounds good to me. Like people have said before, the guitar just doesn't sound that great.

  • The les paul is too dark....pedal is designed to work with Joe's Ibanez guitars.

  • Those guitars sound great usually, must be the EQ on his amp combined with the mic that's making it sound muddy. The reverb cant help either. The Satchurator still sounds good though.

  • Sounds bad but I know it's the guitar.

  • That guitar sounds BAAAD , im not sure if i can judge the pedal on this...

  • What kind of pickups do you have in there?

  • well first of all this is a video from guitarworld, this user didnt make it. but the pickups are the stock gibosn les paul pickups.

  • ur sure gibson i think epiphone because its a epiphone guitar

  • Its an Epiphone...not a Gibson...

  • They're probably crappy made in China pickups.

  • well, its not celan sound , ha have there a bit reverb , ...som ist not clean..dooh , but i have it home and on the clean clean (no reverb everything) and when i tap ON- button , it have a ..ooh..orgasm tone

  • YOU... are such a fag, u dimwit, paul is my hero

  • Why do you think Paul is a fag. What did he do wrong?

  • I hate it when people call Paul gay all the fucking time. He's one of the best reviewers I've ever seen.

  • is he playing an epiphone or a gibson?

  • Epi.

  • Great demo! great playing and detailed description about the pedal. Now if only my retailed store in Ottawa calls me to say the Vox satchurator has arrived after waiting for it for over a month. I can give this beast a wail. I can wait to hear what it sounds like with my Paul reed smith custom 24. Thanks for the clip.

  • has any one played this satchurator pedal through a epiphone slash signature les paul goldtop with alnico seymor duncans with a vox ad50vt single speaker amp id like to know what it sounds like

  • Your VOX is a modelling amp which won't take kindly to the pedal. Don't bother.

The UK modern channel can easily get a poor man's Satch tone.

  • Wow. I guess you can be skilled and boring at the same time.

  • that clean sound wasn't very clean

  • haha that's what I thought too!

  • Ive seen dirty nappys cleaner than that.

  • as did I. it sound like a Crunch tone on a line six spider 3...

  • Les Paul don't really sound clean to begin with. it will always sound gritty whatever amp you use.

  • so you have never played a paul through a twin? lols...

  • done deal. Screw the jemini. I'm gettin one of these satchurators.

  • Theres a video of a guy on the TUBE playing a VAI song on a Jem but using the Satchurator. It just goes to show you dont have to be a Joe Ho to use it.

  • Just goes to show that Eddie was right.

    "Tone starts with your fingers"

  • Damn right there. And you gots to have the skills.

  • Nice demo, now I know I have to have one :)

I would like to ask what kind of humbuckers you have on that epiphone, cause I really like the sound you're getting ... is it "just" satchurator -> delay -> clean channel type of setup in this demo ?

    thanks in advance

  • i have the pedal and it rocks but it takes some tweaking with your amp's EQ to get it perfect...not to harsh or muddy

  • I gotta say it's sounding pretty sweet, I'm right on the edge of buying one. This demo is pushing me even closer to doing so.

  • Nice pedal and nice chinky Epiphone.

  • can this pedal do a nice blues overdrive?

  • sorry for that comment i was listening to the audio preview

  • i kno isnt that like hilarious

  • ahahaha roflz

  • haha he has child hands when he plays. decent player tho.. wonder whats better between this and the jemini...?

  • God I hate GW reviews. Does he even know that Joe uses the pedal into the CLEAN channel of the JSX ????

Why in the hell is this guys clean tone not even clean ?????

  • ....why watch them then?

  • paul's "clean sound" isn't really clean...

  • yeeeaaaa...

  • A hot humbucker will distort a clean sound a bit. How hot are the epi humbuckers, anyway?

  • i've played hot hums on good cleans, and id didn't distort it like that... that sounds more like speaker/mic distortion (and i doubt he wanted it to sound that way, because it's crappy)

  • Either that or the amp hes playing through (whatever it is) doesn't have a lot of headroom.

  • yeah that too, though it sounds like an over-compressed and placid clean sound through a lousy speaker, or mic'd with a lousy mic

  • Bottom line is, it is an awesome pedal. I have one. My only complaint is that I see demos of people using it through a slightly distorted channel to great effect. If I do, its buzzy mud, regardless of the gain or volume level on the pedal.

  • btw i really doubt epi hums are that hot...

  • I own the JS1200 and the epi pups are a blazing inferno compared to the Fred & Joe Dimarzios. The Dimarzios are like pussy cats. Albiet the JS is a very tonefull guitar.

  • i have it and its a great pedal!! but dont plan on doing palm mutes with the more switch and gain cranked...it will just sound like rolling fuzz

  • how much is this pedal

  • I think it's about 130US.

  • its 120$ canadian

  • I guess this means Satch doesn't like the distortion of his JSX amps. Amazing. The pedal as far as I can tell from the video sounds as good or better than the fucking amps distortion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • i don't think it has anything to do with the JSX's specific distortion. It has always been joe's style of FX to deliver the altered signal into a clean channel. This thing is just an 'improvement' on his main dist pedal, the DS-1.

  • You got it!

  • I eat my words!

  • you guys ever notice that anything 'micheal j fox' plays through.... sounds like a crappy chorused out line 6 digital modeller?

I have scene other videos where he is playing some super vintage tube amp and it still sounds like a modeller
