The reason Sandie Shaw had limited success here was that she and her singer/songwriter partner Chris Andrews were both denied visas due to all the other British performers coming here; they just couldn't promote their records. Sandie Shaw's "Girl Don't Come", a brilliant record that reached NO. 3 in England, only got to No. 47 here. Chris Andrews also had a No. 3 UK hit with a fantastic record called "Yesterday Man" that only got to No. 94 in the US.
Beech-Nut Gum was one of "SHINDIG!" regular sponsors, 'PublioIII'- they helped "pay" for the show when it first aired on ABC in October 1964. The commercials are quite facinating, and I'm pleased most of them were retained in these kinescope film recording of the series...ABC never saved ANY of the original videotapes.
Never made it huh? He made it Shindig! And that was "making it" in the sixties!

I loved Sandie Shaw when I was in high school. I still have my old 45 (quite worn) of this song.

A shame... Sandie had a number of really beautiful records in the UK that almost certainly would've charted better here, given proper promotion.
