I know Shemp isn't like Curly but I loved his episodes, Shemp wasn't that bad at all he was funny in his own way. Sure, Curly was just awesome and unique- Shemp was was cool too.
LOL! I love how Shemp does the boxing dance, so funny.
Wow, never thought I'd get to see Moe get slapped and punched in the gut and stuff.
@NathanIVV: I'm assuming he was just trying to act like a sleazy businessman sitting behind his desk wit his feet up. That sort of thing, I guess just amusing himself..
I think Moe making Shemp stand on one foot with the other bent and his arm bent on top then Moe kicking it is one of the most creative Stooge punches ever!
That's my favorite part too, DRAGONHULKX50... Shemp's whimpering and screaming in the fish bowl, and, when Moe asks Larry what he said, sounding like him!!!! HILARIOUS!!
Yup. Shemp was part of the original cast with Moe, and Ted Heely. This was durring their live stage shows. Shemp eventually got tired of Heely's attitude, along with the hitting, and all that. When he quit, Moe recruited Jerry, who he called Babe (since he was the youngest brother). Babe was eventually convinced to shave his head, and Curly was 'born'. Shemp later returned when Curly suffered a stroke and could no longer perform. He made a cameo in this short, it would be his last appearence.
Correct. After Shemp's sudden demise, some episodes were left in the contract and they were finished with old footage combined with new footage with a stunt double posing as shemp. (He was shown from behind or with his face masked). After that came Joe Besser, then when they made movies it was Curly Joe DeRita
Truth is Shemp never wanted to be a Stooge. He hated the violence that became a part of their act when he was with Moe and Larry during their Vaudeville days. When they were receiving offers from Hollywood, he left the troupe and Curly was brought in. He ONLY went back to the troupe when his real brother "Curly" Jerome passed away...and it was the stress of being a Stooge again that led to his death too.
This is a funny short. I like the scenes between Larry and Shemp. The scene where they are singing about catching Slipp and then Moe slaps them is hilarious. I also like the scene where Shemp mumbles gibberish and then Moe ask Larry what Shemp said. ROFL when Larry actually repeated the gibberish almost word for word of what Shemp said.
Well, Shemp was a big fan of boxing. That's why his first short with Moe and Larry after Curly had his stroke was about boxing. In fact, Shemp died after seeing a boxing match of a heart attack and died in the arms of a friend he was with.
Hold That Lion! is notable for a cameo appearance by former Stooge Curly Howard.. He appears as a snoring passenger who the Stooges think is Ichabod Slipp, the man they are looking for. This was the only film that featured all three Howard brothers — Moe, Curly, and Shemp — in the same film. This also marks the first time Curly is shown on camera with a full head of hair, and his only film appearance following the stroke that ended his career as a full-time Stooge. - Wikipedia
There are actually pictures that exist of Curly on the set of Malice In The Palace in costume, looking rather trim as well. I can't remember the reason they ultimately didn't use him, however.

Actually no. Curly wasnt around that episode at all. Shortly after this one was made he died. Everyone was sure that he was going to be well enough to act again after this one but his doctors said he wouldn't and they were right. He stay in the hospital and then passed away.
My mom told me that the people who gave them their checks told curly in the hospital that he was not going to get any money from his well earned work. He wept and died shortly after. It just goes to show you that people need more love care and hope than crooks can give them.
Curly was well taken care of after his stroke. What happened was that he had to sign away any future royalities that Columbia would've made off him due to his serious health issues. With Shemp joing the act, and as sad as it was, it had to be done for legal reasons. Moe made sure his brother Curly was taken well care of..
Ah, a sneaker eh? Ha, dig it.
