i do i do =P :D i've had my dog for for almost 6 years now and he still gets soo much attention and love to this day, love him to bits. it'll be a while till i get a puppy though.
Hard to tell. Alsations have been known to change in color as they grow, and their ears will grow to look like a small, fat carrot. The GSD's don't always look the same.
Papi I suggest you read 'The German Shepherd Dog' by Captain von Stephenitz ,the founder of the GSD, or 'The German Shepherd ,History Devopement and Genetics by Malcolm Willis
aww thats soo cuttee i have a GS i lovee him soo mucch.. i have a cupple of vids of him on there..... check them out alsoo check ot my singing :) thanks xxx
There sometimes called "Alsation" because @ a time they were interbreed with wolves" and those were called The Alsation Wolf Dog. Needless to say crossing a wolf and domestic dog isnt really a good thing as wild traits will pop up in the offspring...so the practice of this didnt last long but the name stuck.
As far as I know this is nonsense. At no point of time the German Shepherd Dog has been interbred with wolves. The name alsatiAn (after the Alsace region in France, which once also belonged to Germany) stems from the fact that after WWI there was a lot of anti-German sentiment in GB. Therefore the name German Shepherd Dog was changed to Alsatian or sometimes Alsatian Wolf Dog because of the physical appearance of the breed. Sometimes wikipedia helps. See the comment below from somebody else.
Uhhh, BS. They breed wolves to GSD to make the wolf's offspring calmer and more manageable. That's where Wolf Hybrids come from. And they breed wolves specifically to GSD to make hybrids, not to poodles or golden retrievers or bassett hounds lol.
That's nonsense. Those hybrids cannot be called German Shepherd Dogs. You know, the breed follows certain standards and each and every individual dog used for breeding and resulting from breeding is registered with the club. Have you actually ever owned a GSD?
Yeah. I own a German Shepherd Dog right now as a matter of fact. He's 5 years old and I've had him since he was 8 weeks old. He's not a wolf hybrid. He's a purebred $2,000 German Shepherd dog. With a straight back. No hip dysplasia. And of course those hybrids cannot be and are not called German Shepherd Dogs. Those hybrids are called Wolf Hybrids because they are calm like a GSD but retain the Wolf build. They look like wolves and don't have the solitary wolf instincts.
Or not as much of the solitary wolf instincts. I'm only going by what the owners of these Wolf Hybrids say, what they have told me personally, and what they write on Wolf Hybrid email lists and so on. I've never owned a Wolf Hybrid. I know of 3 people irl who've owned Wolf Hybrids in the last 20 years, as well as several online who say they currently own Wolf Hybrids. I personally don't have the patience or the desire for a Wolf Hybrid.
What cute puppies. You are so lucky. You can't beat a german shepherd dog, they are wonderful dogs. Their mom is beautiful and seems like a great mother.
i may be wrong in this, but i think german shepherds were given the name Alsation during one of the wars with germany. Coz ppl didn't like anything to do with germany at the time, and that included german dogs :( so they changed the name to make them less... german!
I want an alsation when i move into my own house, my parents wont let me have one now cause my mum wants a cocker spaniel and my dad doesnt like alsations but i think there so beautiful and cute.
are these dogs hard to train or like visious (i spelt that wrong) coz my sis dont like dogs and shes thinking about getting one to guard her house because thae only thing guarding it atm in spain is a gate.......
I know my bro's friends, grandad he has one and his friend says that he snapped his muzzle off and hes strong enough for you to ride on his back and now they got a new dog and it was a puppy and he says hes massive!!

shepards usually are forbidden to come near the pups by the Mother. This is how life goes on a beautiful portrait indeed.
