  • Very informative video. I am interested in attending your next health conference. Thanks.

  • Do these hospitals have foundations that help the indigent and homeless receive health care?

  • Yes, many of our hospital clients have charities and foundations that may, in some cases, team with local civil society organizations and government bodies to provide free medical services that are much appreciated by surrounding communities. And some operate "cross subsidization" models to provide services for lower income groups. We expect to post a separate YouTube video on this subject shortly.

    IFC - Health and Education.

  • Do these hospitals treat poor people who do not have health insurance?

  • Please note that business and revenue models for private sector client organizations vary widely, with revenues typically generated from a mix of user fees, health insurance, and government contracts as the means to pay for services.

    IFC - Health and Education.

  • I heard that, in addition to loan financing, the IFC is also giving grants to subsidize health insurance in Nigeria. It would be interesting to see if, in 2-3 years, such projects can become self-sustaining. I think the jury is out on those.

  • Excellent video...working..I work with the insurance industry in India in the life insurance space, but I follow closely the work being done in the health sector. I think the IFC performs a key role in India in improving health care access there

  • Enjoyed watching the video. Makes it clear to us how IFC can make profit in the health care business and still serve the public good. IFC goes into emerging markets like China, India, Mexico, Nigeria and South Africa but does not shy away from challenging markets like Afghanistan. As the Chinese health care business spokesperson explains, IFC also acts like an international chamber of commerce and more. Congrats to IFC!

  • I am looking for more information on the Apollo Reach hospitals in India. Thanks.

  • The video clearly demonstrates that the International Finance Corporation works with companies in many developing countries from Afghanistan to Nigeria and from Nicaragua to China and India. I am sure the conditions in some of them, including Afghanistan, may be beyond challenging. I would

like to find out more about the Afghanistan hospital and the difficulties and rewards involved with doing business in that country.

  • I was really pleased by the clarity with which this video presented the IFC's involvement in the health sector. And given the direction of the current debate re: future development of both the private and public sectors- I found this to be a very gratifying introduction to the projects the IFC is involved with.

  • I am familiar with the Acomet Family hospital in Afghanistan. Good to know that the International Finance Corp. provides funding to such a worthy project that is raising medical standards.

  • Thanks for sharing. The views of operators in Latin America and Asia were very interesting to me.

  • It is remarkable that an organization such as the IFC is devoting time and resources to a sector previously dominated by governments: health services provision. Helping developing country companies become more competitive and deliver better and cheaper services is wonderful news, especially for poor people who lack health care. This video conveys an inspiring message. Thank you for posting it.

  • Extraordinary video. IFCs partners bring out its comparative advantages in private health care: long view of investment; catalytic role and confidence building in mobilizing local and foreign private and public investors; matching needs, missions, development objectives and values of partner, partnering country and multinational org; providing global networking and best practice; promoting financial discipline. Ellenas relaxed style a charming counterpoint to his shops imposing credentials.

  • Excellent video - who knew the World Bank was investing in private health? Would like to see more. Are these for-profit projects?

  • Thank you for your comments. Yes, indeed, these are for-profit projects. By investing in the health sector, IFC - a member of the World Bank Group - is improving, access to high-quality care for people of all income levels, including the poor. IFC's role includes direct investment in health care companies, sharing industry knowledge and experience, and informing government policy that affects the private health sector.

  • Interesting views and perspectives on healthcare with an international perspective are excellent and impressive in scope. More than one interview outlines a humanitarian view that U.S. health care reform advocates could learn from, as it is not solely based on short-term savings at the cost of patient care. Instead, investment in quality with an eye to long-term gain for both patients and investors is emphasized.
