BTW, I really do think Simon has something against Queen. A few days ago I was watching American Idol when a participant (whose name I don't remember) sung the very one song you guys performed in Australia Got Talent: Crazy Little Thing Called Love. The whole point of the show was to perform songs that have topped the Billboard sometime. As expected, the guy sucked, but then Simon said he had no idea why that song ever was a number one hit on Billboard. That shocked me, that's all.

Simon is usually right, but I believe he's wrong here. Perfect song choice. His sound is somewhere between alternative and hard rock, in the vein of Nickelback, so selecting the title song from one of the darkest and heaviest Queen albums makes a lot of sense. The only other 2 I can think of that would have worked are Gimme the Prize or Princes of the Universe, both off the Highlander soundtrack.

I think the whole "theme weeks" are just plain unfair. People get put in a situation where they have to sing shit they feel uncomfortable with or downright just suck at. I think everyone can just agree that noone will ever be as good as Queen. However, I think Chris did an amazing job on this cover. He's a rocker. His music proves it, so does his voice. Why would you want someone to try to sound just like the band anyways? How does that show who they are if they do that? Best one from season 5!!

He's an even greater moron for suggesting that this is why they didn't perform it live - maybe it's because for the five years preceeding it's release, Freddie Mercury was too ill to play a live concert and died mere months after the song was released. Presumably he didn't like the song because it's not what he thinks sells, which makes him a premium moron, as the song rocketed to #1 in the UK.

Totally disagree. As long as we agree that NOBODY can cover Freddie Mercury, then we can at least give Daughtry credit for having the balls to try this. He could have gone safe, like Crazy Little Thing, but he went big. And he did it reasonably well, for who he is. Credit where credit is due. And remember, he had no choice, it was Queen week.

This song was really studied and was made and created using so much concentration by QUEEN. I don´t know what kind of thoughts this guy had to choose this song for his performance in this tv.show. But i think he needed more time for practice, even Robert plant had not a nice performance of this song in Freddie´s tribute.
