  • So emotional..

  • There was a time when you let me know

    What's really going on below

But now you never show it to me, do you?

And remember when I moved in you

The holy dove was moving too

And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

*That's one meaning that caught my attention! teeeeeheeeeeee!!!!

  • Once upon a time Damien has carried a burden inside ,, Artistic

  • this is a great song, no matter who sings it. Good job Damien Rice

  • Easily the only version I've heard that rivals Jeff Buckley's

  • jeff buckley is better.

  • yeahhh it dont makes me cry like the blowers daughter, but my english is tooo bad to discribe that all of you, who really understands english as their home language and damian rice as their home singer should be proud and pride!!!!! we dont have anyone like him in germany....

  • @leo1477 Yeah.

    Sadly we don't :(

  • Married me , please.

  • O Cabeção aí canta pra caralho!

  • O.O I love his voice!!!! It's makes my cry! T.T

  • Your voice is Beauty,I Love Him<3

  • Spectacular and very well performed for this special occasion.

  • I never used to have time for this version from being too captivated by Jeff Buckley's untouchable cover, I see the quiet beauty in this now though; what a version!

  • The best, real music!

  • nice

  • Capo on 3:

    Verse

    G E G E C D G C D

    part where it says:

  • 201 people committed suicide after watching this cos they realized there was no point in living if they disliked this

  • the reason why so many people cover this song is because 90 percent of the world can identify with this song and the lyrics...just as much with the melody. It is brilliantly constructed and even more brilliantly written. anybody who know how to play the guitar a little bit will sing it with just as much pain as everyone else. except for, Cohen and Buckley :P

  • This song changed my life.

  • Tim Minchin, an atheist does a better cover than this. That being said, this is a wonderful cover. This is a great song, you're either doing a great job or you're not. This dude definitely did a good job.

  • Shiver like this only jeffery was able to do on me!

  • This is so amazing.

  • i aint cryin...i aint cryin...ooh fuck im cryin my eyes out!!

  • Jeff Buckley's cover is way better than this

  • And where is his hair? o.O

  • It's like you can't be a great singer if you haven't sang this song. It's disturbing. I've heard this too many times. Eventhough Damien is doing a great job.

  • awesome *-* he makes me crie...it's better than the original

  • It really is a great cover. But after listening to around 80 different covers of this songs here in youtube, i think the best one ( if there is something like the best one) is from Rufus Wainwright. I can listen to his version 10 times a day and it still doesnt get boring =)

  • He makes me cry with no reason.... Damien is genious

  • Comparing different versions is stupid, but if I do, This is certainly the best!

  • I've heard quite a few covers of this song... Jeff Buckley's is the best; his voice is almost painfully beautiful. After that, i'd say this one and k.d. langs Juno awards performance easily top the list of the rest. I don't think most of the rest even compare. (And part of what makes these three the best is, while certainly sounding better, staying true to Leonard Cohen's original expression.)

  • Nice cover, but not better than Buckley

  • @criskunko Couldn't agree more.

  • Isn't this one of the most obvious things ever done in music?

  • Not bad, but mediocre- just doesn't have the vocal depth for this song. I was a big fan of Jeff Buckley's version until I hear Alter Bridge's cover:

    youtu(DOT)be/KgTBDRCGjKU

  • @NewEnglandBudo Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but never say Damien Rice doesn't have vocal depth. Alter Bridges cover is great, but just because he changes the way it is sung doesn't mean he has greater vocal depth. Singing isn't that black and white.

  • @NewEnglandBudo Let me rephrase that.

    Take your pick

    Damien = Realistic Emotion

    Myles = Artistic Emotion

  • I am totally in love with him<3 He has such a great voice!!! I love his cover as well!! Really great job Damien.

  • one of the most touching songs... so amazing!

  • Love love love the song and Love Love Love the Haircut!

  • oooh wonderful!! Watch our cover of this song!!! /watch?v=kcnXDLA-AmQ

  • first time i heard this version i wasn't too impressed. it's been a couple of years now since i heard it, but now i like it. it's not as overemotional as some of his other songs, or some other interpretations of this particular song. i appreciate that more today.

  • And.....by the way, this Steve Katz in the video responses is really good. I accidentally clicked on "Where do I belong" then went through his channel.I really recommend!

  • " Leonard Cohen, originally released it in 1984. Achieving little initial success, the song found greater popular acclaim through a cover by John Cale, which later formed the basis for a cover by Jeff Buckley. In recent years several cover versions have been performed by a large number and broad range of artists, both in recordings and in concert" ......27 years of beautiful covers,,,always a pleasure!

  • BEAUTIFUL it helps me rock my baby boy to sleep!!! Thanks Damien!!!

  • Is... Is he actually dressed nice!!???

  • @TheSweetvictory3 haha only cause it was a tribute thing

  • It's easy to say that this is better than the original. However without the original there wouldnt be this so be grateful that Leonard Cohen had come up with this!

  • who else thinks this song is about making love???

  • @lovedivasong well it is, what else would it be about... that's what all songs are about, isn't it like this?

  • @lovedivasong true, true i just thought it was funny cause i never actually listened to the lyrics ja ja and never thought it was about orgasms while making love hallelujah

  • i really like damien rice...but NO ONE plays this song better than Jeff Buckley

  • RAPED the play button

  • I think comparing different versions is stupid. Everyone is doing this song on their own way. Music isn't about competition, it's about making art.

  • @YoLpIsBest up top man!! that's well said!!

  • I'm actually really disappointed!! So many others do this song better than him.

  • He's great. I love this cover. :D

  • sorry but this version seems emotionless compared to buckley or kd lang's versions

  • Every version is different and completely awesome in its own!!!...though i think i like this one the best :)....damien rice is amazing

  • Daisee

  • this is a stupid post, but who actually sang the original?

  • @TheSummerinfrance Leonard Cohen! :)

  • @TheSummerinfrance I might suggest rufus wainwrights version in all honesty.

  • Wow amazing talent!

  • People shouldn't worry about whose version is "better". Cohen wrote a fantastic song, and whether it's Buckley, Rice, Wainwright, Cale or whoever singing it, they're all great musicians, and the fact that they can all make such powerful emotional performances is a testament to how great the song is.

For anyone looking for good acoustic/folk music, I promote original and unknown artists on my channel, check it out.

  • why speak?

  • Ed Sheeran.

  • It's good, but this is Jeff Buckley's song. I know Cohen wrote it... But it's Buckley's song.

  • Alexandra burke should NEVER have been allowed to record this

  • @tarajade87 x factor arent really worthy are they haha! but at the end she has an amazing voice and did a great cover!

  • shit, love love love <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

  • Come hear "There Are Debts" feat. Damien Rice on my channel!

  • He is a musical genius love his voice so much not gay btw

  • I love this song... I love him.... I love all! <3333

  • i love him.. i love him so much..

  • always liked this song, always liked damien, so this is perfect man

  • Rufus Wainwright does the best cover of this..

  • actually no one does it better than the genius who wrote it. The SOUL of Leonard sings this, not just mouths the words but he IS the song. This cover is good but really, no one is Leonard like no one can do Dylan better than Dylan.

  • great cover. Check out Kina Grannis's try too

  • Who cares what version is better? Cohen wrote an incredible song. Buckley did an amazing and touching cover. Rice also did a great emotional performance, as he always does. I even did a half-assed cover, pretty much every acoustic musician has at some point. It's just a great song to play and listen to.

  • 1:36, lost my breath for a couple seconds. This song on it's own is so beautiful, Damian just makes it that much better.

  • i think this is the closest version of this song as the orignal. I mean the way he puts his vocals its similar to lenoard. People like to argue about which version is better between all these great artist. It dosnt matter its your own choice !

  • This is amazing. Only damien rice could do this song better than the original

  • @shotright Good joke.

  • the awkawrd moment when the covers better then the original...

  • @caolank1 The jokes keep on coming.

  • @caolank1 pretty much ALL the covers are better than this original

  • @caolank1 Do u really think this is better than any Cohen's version?

  • @frogledj yes much better :)

  • Amazing artist. Listen to my song too. You can find it on my profile, thanks;)x

  • Have you people actually never listened to the version by k.d lang. She kicked everyones ass at the cover. Listen then comment, better than Rice, Buckley, Jovi, Canadian Tenors..... If these versions touch your heart check out hers!

  • well that comment of mine was sappy....

  • Music toys with our emotions like the fickle bitch we call "my love".

  • Rufus Wainwright's version is incredible and so is this one.

  • Other than Buckley's, this is the best version I have heard.

  • love this version :)

  • He does a good job but after Buckley did it I dont see anyone trumping that.

  • he did amazing, simple as that

  • Alterbridges version is better in my oppinion XD

  • Made me cry. I never cry.

  • i like the lyrics to this song...more than i like the actual song..especially the full version of the song

  • So beautiful

  • This is a very nice cover version of this song. A fitting tribute to the composer, but for those of us who have heard Cohen, himself, sing this song... well, let's just say all other versions pale in comparison. This is, however, a quite thoughtful version and I like it.

  • Buckley's is my favorite.

  • this is the best cover !!!

  • I love this man!!!

  • Loadsaaa respect for this guy - absolute beauty

  • I now love this song on a whole new level <3

  • when haley sings the intro only of this song sounds more nicer XD but like this song...when him, too.

  • Damien Rice is an amazing songwriter/ singer, his B-sides album is by far his best, all his tracks that didn't make his other albums.

  • way better than all the covers

  • he sings this so simply. not over done but pure and heartfelt. you can see every emotion in his face. i love it when he looks up like hes singing to the heavens. true musician through and through.

  • He really sounds like he means what he's singing.

  • It's like Edger Allan Poe reading Shakespeare.

    It's beautiful.

  • SHE didnt draw the halleluah from the lips of 180.. .

  • the best versions of this for me are Jeff Buckley and Myles Kennedy, not that i dislike this one, this is brilliant, i just think the other 2 i mentioned are better :)

  • 180 people dont really care for music,do they?

  • So freaking awesome!! He has such an amazing voice <33 =)

  • 180 people dont agree with music...

  • There is one such word for this, that word is T A L E N T E D

  • i really love this song and this one of the versions!

  • This is great . but try listening to the version by South Africa's Karen Zoid , Hallelujah !!

  • Yer man Buckleys version is good but this has a raw feeling about it, a class act.

  • x-factor fucked up this song bad

  • @zabuza836 Right? I was astonished at the reception Burke got for singing Hallelujah from the public, as if she was the first person to cover it period, and to tell the truth it was a terrible cover, it's sad, people are told what they should and shouldnt like now, via the media. Thanks goes out to the xfactor loving muppets that make up 99% percent of our country today! Rant Over!

  • If you have ever listened to cohen's original it sounds nothing like this, Jeff Buckley is the one that gave this song the melody that is covered by everyone. Give Jeff some credit.

  • Absolutely beautiful! Good job Damon! This song breaks my heart in a good way and you were amazing!

  • @kanonica1 How do i know if i like something or not without listening to it? Jesus christ, use your brain.

  • better than the original, definitely, but Buckley's cover is still better. I think so at least.

  • @felipe0mange although you know jeff buckely wernt the orignal artist to this song right?

  • @smalltalkful that is why I used the word 'cover', after 'Buckley's'.

  • @felipe0mange Buckley's is the best man. Nothing comparable. So powerful

  • @felipe0mange couldn't have said it better myself

  • @felipe0mange Does it matter which one is "better"? Why would we even compare?

  • @iTubeQQQQQ seriously...sheesh

  • @felipe0mange Haha for me, every cover is better than the original, aside from the fact that I like the original version's instrumental better lol

  • @felipe0mange Well, this is a cover of Buckley's cover.

It's nothing like the original....which, in my opinion, is not nearly the song that Buckley's version is.

  • @felipe0mange

maybe , but if the guy damien rice died tomorow , this would be the best version EVER

  • @blower220 nope, it wouldn't.

  • @felipe0mange what a sick thing to say. no cover is better than the original, lol!

  • @felipe0mange Buckleys version is the best, vocally Myles Kennedy kicked ass, and Damien Rice just has a great style

  • this cover is perfect, but i prefer buclkey´s cover, also i think that the original is the best, i love cohen voice

  • this song is no just about me.. also to all others that have been in same situation as i have been in

  • depressing as hell! i want to kill that guy! it made sp fucked up depressed that i wanted to shot myslf in the head

  • @koveras13 maybe you should shoot yourself in the head..

  • impressive

  • that's what you call a tough act to follow.

  • @TheBatteredTruth haha I was thinking the same thing ! amazing.

  • every time when we hear it we've tears in our eyes :)

  • Love u Damien.

  • Well, it's kind of a good cover of Buckley's Hallelujah.

  • I'm forced to say, Jeff Buckley did the best cover o Hallelujah. And you can hear some influences of him in this Damien's version ;)
