Just think, the last scene on this video when the quattro blasts through the Sintra stage on the Portuguese rally would be the S1's last ever Group B race. Audi and ford withdrew from rallying after the accident in portugal 86. It's a shame, because the S1 was an excellent car and although a bit outdated, the engineers had got the power to weight ratio better on the S1 and it was becoming more reliable. Sad end to a great rally car.. Still, it conquered Pikes Peak!!

the t16 came 4 years later in mid 1984, was rear engined, and the chassis was lighter from the design. the quattro was designed between 1977-1980. so performance wise, its not fare to compare to the two.

So what if the vehicles of the time had 550 bhp? Rally cars today are so much faster than this. I don't understand why they banned Group B. The real problem wasn't the raw power of the cars (like I said, they are faster nowadays), but the spectator situation. Those crowds of rabid fans were just a disaster waiting to happen.

@depolarization it mostly is about the spectators, but you're so wrong about the cars, from 1997-2010 they had max 340HP, and that was peaking around 5.5k RMP, avg HP from 3k-7.5k was 300, considering that technology(tires, suspensions, shafts etc.) has gone long way back from 80's, basicly to summarize, you have 300HP car with the newest technology, and a 550+(even 600 sometimes) of raw power; they could be faster today, but aswell they are much much easier to control; that's just my opinion

Wow, so many crazy people willing to risk their lives just to catch a brief glimpse (what, maybe 1 second???) of a roaring car flying past them. The risk to 'reward' ratio is quite out of balance there.... I think most who watch live from a majority of the vantage points have a definite death wish. I for one would apreciate it, and it wasnt SO dangerous for pedestrians anyway... @Juanknes The modern cars do not make better times. The modern cars are quicker, but on today's stages. Today's stages are different. More technical (means more curves etc) ... The stages when GrB was running were more straight with more speed. WRC can beat a GrB on today's courses, true. But if they run on the speedy stages of GrB they got no chance.
