  • HI Scotty, thank you for the great clips you put up. I have a question about fuel injectors for a Jeep Wrangler yj 4L 6 cylinder; I have read that it should be possible to swap the stock with Ford Mustang fuel injectors, problem is I'm not sure which year of Mustang (I have looked around on the web but have only found different answers) and also is it worth the bother? The Ford 'fi' has four holes to the Jeep's stock one hole which is meant to be better. Any advice would be grateful. Thanks!

  • @alvaskins I NEVER try such stuff, hit and miss. Ask some guys who do just jeeps and see if they've ever heard of it.

  • @scottykilmer Thanks for the reply.

  • great video thanks

  • I need some of what this guy is having

  • @wilborschowa a Clean life, a beautiful wife, two sons who moved out to their own lives years ago, and you need to work for yourself like I do. And a gin and tonic every now and then.

  • Hey Scotty, great video! I was wondering, I have a 1992 bmw 318i 5 speed that runs fine until around 4500 rpm and it bogs down for like 200 rpm and then goes back to normal until I shift. Could this be due to my fuel injectors? I just cleaned the MAF and throttle body(mostly) so idk what else to check before spending too much money. Any help with this matter is greatly apprecited. Thanks.

  • injectors aint cheap, id try proffesionally flushing them first

  • @crrazyy of course, check out my other video "how to clean fuel injectors on your car" which shows how that is done.

  • Scotty I have a 1994 Pontiac Sunbird 3.1V6. Are you familiar with this engine at all? Dead common. Any tips for good running? Mine has over 190,000 miles on it and it still runs pretty good for the most part. Runs a little rough and I recently suspect a vacuum leak at the brake master cyclinder. Not sure. Any idea where the tach filter is located on this car? Some say it's on the instrument cluster itself. Also the oil pres either reads high or fluctuates wildly. Thank you, if you have time.

  • @JetMechMA replace the oil pressure sending unit. I have no idea what you mean by tach filter though. I would check for vacuum leaks definitley though.

  • Is it true that when re-installing the fuel rail assembly with injectors on it, back into the intake manifold, to NOT draw the injectors into their holes with the bolts, to first gently seat the injectors and THEN tighten the fuel rail bolts. Is that right?

  • @JetMechMA yes, that's right.

  • Summery press "2" from 00:22secs-00:25secs, then 8 2:41secs to 2:42 then zero

  • I'd love to be your apprentice. Do you work on beetles Scotty?

  • @UKPatchy Yes, but I'm not a big fan of em, only the old ones. The new ones are over engineered and poorly put together.

  • Hey, I'm about to replace all 6 injectors on my 3800 (L36) V6 Firebird. Any advice to think of before the procedure? Big thanks!

  • @SharQus yes, just be carefull, perhaps take digital pictures before so you know where it all goes back. And don't buy cheap injectors, get good new ones.

  • @scottykilmer Sounds like a good idea. I just bought 6 new AcDelco injectors. Thanks

  • who needs new injectors, just use a car battery and carb cleaner pressurizing the injector and use the battery to power the injector so it can clean it

  • is it the same step for a 1986 nissan 300zx

  • @jerezcarlos06 yes, but a lot more work getting all the crap on that V6 out of the way

  • Will a faulty fuel injector cause my car in the morning to start then shut off until I have to turn it on again then push gas into it so it doesnt turn off again?

  • @Zaryach it can do that

  • Ok. Because my injectors were covered with black gunk

  • Hey Scotty. Should I get remanufactured injectors or just buy brand new ones?

  • @xxdemasterxx depends on your wallet. I often use new ones when the customer has the bucks, and rebuilts when they don't

  • wow....change all injectors same time.....if you have a v6 or v8 engine...Good Luck....each injector is about 130 dollars.Try to change injector in minivan...the back side of course...

  • Thats what she said put it back in the hole

  • Now THIS is how a how-to video should be done! Get to the point and let someone else hold the camera.

  • got a question got a 97 ram 1500 318 just had new intake gasket, pleneum gasket new plugs and wires new distuputor car and i keep getting misfire on cylinder 8

  • @GaubatzNinety3 swap the injector from 8 and if the miss moves, replace that injector. Pray it's that simple, and not an engine internal problem

  • if your in texas, im in san antonio T_T will pay to get my engine lite off, all these mechanics want to charge for other things, but never get to the source of the my problem

  • @latoywri I'm in Houston, a long drive for that. scotty, but certainly must be a decent mechanic somewhere in Alamo land.

  • this guy is EPIC! i got a MisFire Scotty! i cant tell where its coming from and i dont have the toools D:

  • @latoywri then pay a mechanic who has the tools and the knowledge. You can't fix cars with your bare hands.

  • This guys got some pep

    1:11

  • Nice video, thanks. Quick question for you. GMC Canyon, 5 cyl inline engine. Gas smell when starting cold. Do you think injector o rings (seals) or a contaminated Evap canister from customer over filling tank? Because it smells only when cold, I was leaning towards o rings (seals) up front. What do you think?

    Thanks again

  • @Dukmoy yes, could be seals, but also could be just worn injectors. if the smell comes out the tailpipe, it's more likely worn injectors, if under the hood, seals.

  • I love All your videos man

  • Scotty can you work on my mini van.. are you in Brooklyn ny

  • @Bignene628 Hey, do I sound like I'm in brooklyn? Na, I'm in texas.

  • so would you lubricate the o rings with vaseline so its easier on the orings going into the fuel rail? or would a heavy thick grease be better?

  • @Donmega884 NO,that ruins them. Just lube em with gasoline, it's slippery enough

  • so if your a mechanic why do you advice and show people to do it them selfs

  • @GEO3535 Cause I'm nice. and over 10 million people have watched my videos, no way I could fix that many cars in a lifetime.

  • @scottykilmer would clogged fuel injectors cause the car to stall frequently and have trouble shifting gears?

  • Hey Scottie, I'm having a lot of trouble with my 1997 Saturn SC2 DOHC. I removed the old injectors and I replaced all of them along with all new o rings. I made sure and lubricated the top and bottom o rings on the injector with new motor oil. Am I doing something wrong? The O rings are brand new and they are clean upon entering the cylinder.

  • @Donmega884 Well, I have no idea what your trouble is, cause you didnt' say. If they are leaking now, then often the o rings get pinched and then need replacing again. I've even done that.

  • I suggest before dismantling any part of a fuel injection system, remove the fuel pump fuse and start the engine, it'll run for a second and stall, that will depressurise the system so that when you start dismantling you don't get fuel squirting up your sleeve or in your eye.

  • Hay scotty I drive a 1991 accord I have a very low idle and im only geting 179 miles to a full tanke of gas I run 91 octane from chevron what else could cause this thanks for your time.

  • @madsexymanofthenight it sure could be, but try my other video first, "how to clean fuel injectors on your car"

  • @madsexymanofthenight tons of things can do that, but number one is dirty injectors. Try my video "HOW TO CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS ON YOUR CAR'

  • Hi Scotty, been watching your videos, love it. I have an older model hyundai coupe car 2 doors that is faltering from time to time, everytime I hit the throttle to accelerate, it falters, and sometimes it backfires. First my mechanic replaced a new Spark plug because he thought its the cause of the problem, but unfortunately its not so he open the engine and told me that the 4th cylinder is not showing any charcoal or black as a sign of combustion. Do you think my 4th injector has a problem?tnx

  • @fiverrgigler swapinjectors and see if the problem moves, then it is bad. But tons of stuff can do that. Try that first.

  • @scottykilmer Hi Scotty, thank u for your response. My friend just swapped the injectors. He noticed black color in the nozzle portion of the 4th injector while the other 3 injectors doesn't have any black coloration. It looks like the fuel at the 4th injector doesn't seem to inject. But the injectors seems to be okey when he swapped it. Do you think it something to do with the electronics? Please help. Thank you

  • @fiverrgigler swap the bad one with a good one, and if the good one then fires, replace the bad one. If it doesn't, then the wiring or computer is bad

  • @scottykilmer The mechanic already swapped the injectors, it seems to be okey. We are taking it to an Electronic guy who knows about auto computer and stuffs. I hope its not a big problem. Do you think, if the computer is broken, is their a replacement? Thanks Scotty.

  • @fiverrgigler of course, anything can be replaced, just depends on how much money you have to buy one. I personally NEVER put used ones on though

  • hi scotty,i want to do this job on my car but I am concerned about safety before I start,it is a good idea to pull the fuel pump relay before I start.

  • @tigertruckerman go ahead, but if you work on an ice cold engine, nothing can happen then as any leaking gas won't start on fire on a cold engine.

  • you are ridiculously helpful with all of your videos

  • search You Tube for: 1999 - 2004 Jeep Upgrade Fuel Injectors and you will find a good video comparing the stock vs these Bosch injectors

  • I agree with you Scotty, I don't like rebuilt injectors either, I prefer new myself. I disagree about the OEM though, because there are some high quality injectors out there such as: fiveomotorsport

  • Comment removed

  • dude you can buy a set of 6 or 8 injectors depending on How many cylinders your engine is. a standard price is about $40-80 an injector depending on brand and if its new or reconditioned. $2500 is truly insane price. find someone else and research this a little more and learn some. look up five O motorsports in California. they only sell fuel injectors. good shop

  • @jbossnack some injectors cost less, some more. And many injectors do not rebuild well, so using reconditioned ones is a Big Gamble. I've been working on em for 44 years, I know what's out there. Yes, some are cheap, but many are not. Plus non OEM injectors often will not work correctly with factory computers and software. Using aftermarket guys is often a big mistake.

  • @scottykilmer hey Scotty, im 16, and no one in my family mechanically inclined. I have a 2000 dodge 1500 truck. My engine light came on and I took it to a dealership. They ran tests and said that 4 of the injectors were bad. They said that trash in the gas tank caused them to go bad. In your video, you said that you change them in a set and they didn't mention that. In the end, they said that it would cost $2500. Is this right? P.s they said it was code p0308. Thanks

  • would it be the same on a diesel engine, can the injectors be reconditioned.

  • Best thing about this video: I know EXACTLY how to replace my injectors, because I'm working on a 91 Celica.

  • Could the fuel injectors be cause my rpms to drop after hitting about 45 mph not all the time but some been having a problem losing rpms can't get above 2 rpm

  • @MrRock1331 yes, but unfortunately so can a whole bunch of stuff like a clogged cat or a weak fuel pump. Best to test those first. scotty

  • @scottykilmer Thanks Scotty I was wishing it was not the pump but will do the injectors first being that they are around 180,000 miles old .Your videos are the best thanks mate

  • My car has a slight miss/hesitation between 1400-1900RPMs, but as soon as I get beyond that rpm range it clears up. I pulled the plugs and none were fouled, the gaps were fine, too. I had recently put new plug wires, too. So could it be a bad injector(s)?

  • @CalypsoNotch408 often injectors, watch my video "how to clean fuel injectors in your car" scotty

  • 240sx?

  • @renetony29 no, toyota celica. Scotty

  • hi scott what will be the best scan car and remouving fault so reading them for european car please

well done i like your video ...do it your self

  • I think you have the best "how to" car repair videos on YouTube.

  • Hi scotty, i have a problem with my 06 hyundai sonata. A while back i was traveling up north.i stop to fill up for gas, my car would crank but won't fire, i thought it was many things ...i called a friend that knows i bit about cars, i put a new pump, and still cranked but no fire..i moved wires that goes to the gas tank...the samething happened. the next day i got in my car and it cranked and fire ...what can i do scotty.

  • @JD1andJD2 wiring to the pump probably needs repair, they often short out in those cheaply made korean cars, I see that a lot, scotty

  • @scottykilmer hey scotty what is a good brand of tools to use on anything craftman snap on what do you thank

  • Is it alright if a small amount of gasoline spills out? Some spilled over my intake manifold and near the alternator down in that area. I just want to know if I should vigorously clean it or if I can just leave it there without the fear of anything catching on fire lol.

  • @ArtofWar91 yes, just work on a cold engine so it doesn't catch fire.it will evaporate quickly Scotty

  • Hi scotty, my 1ltr yaris often stalls after starting when warm and is then hard to start , any idea what could be wrong ? Thanks for posting great videos

  • @Carlostype watch my video "how to fix a car that idles poorly" and start there. also, change the fuel filter and try my video "how to clean fuel injectors in your car" as dirty injectors will do that too. scotty

  • i need your help scotty. i have 1991 nissan 240sx and the fuel pump is pumpin gas but its not coming out of he other end of the fuel line what should i do.

  • @NerdiePhresh If you removed the fuel line from the fuel rail and no fuel came out, replace the fuel filter and check for bent fuel lines. But, if it gets to the rail and the injectors just don't fire, look for an electrical fuel injection problem, like bad computer or crank sensor. Scotty

  • Scotty, can this procedure be done on a 1983 chevy cavalier?

  • @bugsyxfacta yes, it can be done on any gasoline engine. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Hi, scott I need ur help to fix my toyota pick up truck.. the problem is. I smell gas but cant fine anything links.... so please help me out. One of my friend said it could b fuel injector linking. but not 4 sure. Please let me know if u know the problem.

  • @zcy1489 if injectors leak, you'll see gasoline dripping around them and their close area will be all clean as gas cleans everything off. If it's not that, check the charcoal cannister, it vents gas fumes which smell but does not leak gasoline so you won't see anything, just smell it. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer hay scotty i have a 97 grand am gt vin m what is the best oem injectors to use i know ac delco there injectors are about 170 $ a pice whats your suggestion

  • I will "UGH!" with everything now!

  • Hey Scotty,

Can I use this same procedure for a 1995 Infiniti J30?

  • @coopblack yes, just a lot more crap to move out of the way. Scotty

  • i have a 1997 mitshisbui eclipse GS and i have idle problems especially whn i tunr on the a/c or defogger

  • @rizegraymon1 tons of things can do that, so watch my video "fixing a car that idles poorly" on the scottykilmer channel on youtube, and start there. Scotty

  • I love this guy! He makes things look so easy! And I love his enthusiasm!!!

  • Hey my friend can you please show us how to replace the fuel filter on the 2000 Toyota Corolla please please .

  • @thehegt leave it alone, you have to pull the gas tank off, the filter's hiding inside. Scotty

  • Scooty, can this same procedure be done on a 2003 Toyota matrix Xr automatic vehicle

  • @Taxminia0311 Yes, just more plastic to move out of the way on that thing. Scotty

  • well done!... now time to get to my 94 cougar V8! a little longer process ha

  • im going to have fun with my flat 4 on my STI.

  • Thanks for the video. Never done this before and I'm adding 60# injectors to my Buick Grand National and this cleared all my questions right up!

  • Your F-ing awesome, I have a very tight budget and need to replace my fuel injectors on my 2003 Honda Civic. Is there any difference I need to do than what you did on the video? Also what fuel injectors are of good quality? Thank you!

  • @socalfrijolito No, the same process. I often use rebuilt python injectors for them. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Thanks for the quick reply. I just checked under my hood and my fuel rail isn't easily accessable like your toyota. The air filter is somewhat in the way, If you've worked on a 2003 civic lx how do you usually access the rail?

  • @socalfrijolito just move whatever is in the way out of the way. It's all logical and just bolts off and pulls out of the way. Scotty

  • EXCELLENT! I love you

  • I just replaced the o rings on my 1989 jeep cherokee. The only way I can describe it is an easy yet hard job. Those o-rings Don't like fitting into such a small area :-P. I got her all back together, started her up, and got a big smile on my face and then bam. I ruined the o ring on my pressure regulator. Oh well, 23 years old. Probably time to replace it!

  • scotty your a legand!! keep up the good work

  • Scotty - Great work - I love the way you explain things!

  • Hey Scotty, quick question. I have an 02 Lexus LS430 and I want a little more power out of the engine. I already have a catback exhaust system and I'm working on an intake, but will adding better fuel injectors help my performance at all? And if so, which ones should I buy for maximum performance? Thanks!

  • Hello

can you clean fuel injector instead of replace a new set ???

  • Thank you for the Video

for those whose Dislike this Video are jealous fuck .

  • is it that simple for a tacoma? wow...

  • @MrAnthony78666 No, you have to take more stuff off on that to access the fuel rail.Scotty

  • Would a leaky fuel injecter cause start up smoke from tail pipe in a 02 Camry 4cyl ?

  • @PeterGriffin4200 It could, but that would be simple to check, one of the spark plugs would be wet when you pulled it out and checked. More often that's a blowing head gasket or worn valve seals though., Scotty

  • @scottykilmer If it is the worn valve seals(common issue on 2.4 camry) how long can i drive it like this?

  • @PeterGriffin4200 as long as you want, as long as you keep oil in the engine and replace the spark plugs as they fould. Scotty

  • Lol petergriffens name lol..

Oh Man Fuel injctors are pricey for my mitsubishi mirage 1999 .. Each cost 130 Cash I certainly will replace them myself sheesh : P

  • @200twistatwista Yeah I am a Family Guy fanatic lol..

DAMN that's expensive....I guess I will just drive the car until it falls apart I mean it is a TOYOTA which should survive any poor maintenance and should last a lifetime lol

  • Just changed my injectors on my 92 Honda Civic Si in 45 min. !!! I would suggest disconnecting the battery for safety and i relived my fuel line pressure from the fuel pump end. Works fine Thanks Scotty !!! Why are all cool mechanics named Scotty !! LOL !!

LOL !!

  • Hi, can we clean the old injector?

  • @axenz1 not really, only someone with a bench tester and an ultrasonic cleaner who knows his stuff can clean it off the car. But you can clean em on the car, watch my video "how to clean fuel injectors on your car". Scotty

  • Hello again I forgot to say that when i turn the ignition just slightly you can hear the pump that is working, the problem it's just does that when i dont use he truck about 3 hours or longer....Thanks!

  • Hello! My truck doesnt turn on right away when i turn the key in the ignition. I have to try about 10 times for my truck to turn on. When it finally turns on the truck shakes and if i step on the gas pedal it turns off and then when i turn it on again it works perfect. What could be the problem, do you think its the fuel pump or something else? The Check Engine Light its not lit up! Thank you!

  • @jh Perhaps just a bad ignition switch, check that first. If jigging it gets stuff to work, that's it. If not, pressure test the fuel pump when cold to see if the pump is weak. Scotty

  • Thank you so much Scotty! this helped me fix my infiniti!! I definitely would NOT have been able to fix this without this video!

  • Does this apply for a 1993 G20 infiniti?

  • @Brownsuga2010x yes, only the specific parts you have to remove to access the fuel rail are different. Scotty

  • lol kinda crazy but seems like a cool dude

  • Hi Scotty. Does this also apply for Common Rail diesel engines? (like the VW TDi)

  • @godjp821 same basic principle, the diesels just have WAAY more pressure in them so the seals must be carefully installed. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Ok, thanks Scotty.

  • @scottykilmer for better performance though... is there a specific brand you recommend? Especially on an 02 civic?

  • @THEROYOFROCK No, I generally only use OEM injectors, as performance ones often need computer reprogramming to run correctly. Scotty

  • What do you recommended... if you do for high performance injectors on 4 cylinders?

  • @THEROYOFROCK If you want a little more performance. Scotty

  • ok scotty 2 questions here. 1 how do u know a fuel injector is bad and will it turn the engine light on? 2 where would i install a K&N Fuel Injection Line Air Filter?

  • @Matthew55904 sometimes they trip codes and turn the light on, sometimes not. just depends how worn they are. Watch my other video "How to check out fuel injectors in your car". I would not use that filter on a modern car with a MAF sensor, as they can contaminate them. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer what is a MAF sensor?

  • @Matthew55904 it measures the amount of air going intop the engine so the computer knows how much gas to spray into the engine. Scotty

  • Great video :)

  • How hard would changing the injectors on a 1999 Jeep Cherokee be with the 4.0L I-6? Thanks

  • @ryguy9024 pretty easy on the straight 6 engine. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Thanks

  • Scotty, once again many thanks for your wonderful videos. I was just about to dis-assemble & check the condition of my fuels injectors when I had trouble wondering how I am going to take them out. Your video just showed me how simple it was, especially how to take those connectors off. You are our guru for DIYers.

  • It looks easy on the Toyota you are working on. How about a 2001 Honda Accord V6?

  • @Durfield a LOT harder. Scotty

  • scotty's the peoples champ

  • changing the injectors on a bmw Z4 3.0i Is this about the same process or is going to be a nightmare?

  • @COHmaricopa everything on a beemer is a nightmare, except driving them. I just did one today, what a royal piece of crap design, someone should shoot their engineers. Plastic crap everywhere under the hood. Scotty

  • @toyota339 tons of things can do that, from worn plugs to worn fuel injectors to a weak fuel pump. Test , rather than guess. Pressure test the fuel pump, have the fuel injectors tested by a mechanic, cause they are expensive and guessing is foolhardy., Scotty

  • @waltermarines89 Yes, I would do both at the same time. Scotty

  • @waltermarines89 could be manifold gaskets, it does seal oil and water and that smokes white when burned. Scotty

  • once again, other video producers fail, but scotty kilmer delivers!

    Thanks, scotty!

  • @waltermarines89 white smoke is normally burning coolant or oil, so check that first. Scotty

  • @waltermarines89 don't know what your problem is. If they leak , replace ALL the o rings with new ones. If they don't work, ditto for the fuel injectors themselves. Scotty

  • Hi Scotty, I Have a yamaha motorcycle V Star clasic 1100 cc... well my problem with this bike is, it' backfires when i decelerate, also it sound like it chokes,, i have change the spark plugs & the air filter, but still the same... your help is well appreciated... Thanks ace532000

  • @ace532000 that's almost always a carburetor problem, but if it's fuel injected, it's a fuel injection problem. they backfire when the air fuel mixture is incorrect. Scotty

  • Hi scotty I have a nissan quest but a think I have to replace my full injector because it wise to much gas how can I do it on this car

  • @lvillage29 you have to remove the fuel rail on top of the engine to replace injectors. Watch my video "replacing fuel injectors in your car." Scotty

  • Thanks Scotty. I'm going to do a leak down test tomorrow to check for compression. I'm thinking you might be correct about a bad carb but I just had the carbs rebuilt last November but I do know though a vacuum leak test that I have a carburetor boot joint (between the barbs & intake manifold) that HAD a vacuum leak & I wonder if that could cause the misfire. I'd like to replace this boot joint but finding a good replacement is easier said then done. Their hard boogers to find.
