Also, I only bathe her when she rolls in poop or dead things. Which only happens every few months. You're not supposed to bathe them more than once a month. But you should know that Cairn's were bred to hunt rodents in the cairns of Scotland, so I'm sure soap and water is fine on occasion. They are tough little nuggets.
@simgorm, I honestly don't know where you heard that, or what this obsession is about not bathing Cairns... My vet says it is okay. My breeder said unless you are showing your Cairn, it is fine to clip and clean them. Lilah does not have sensitive skin. She loves water. When we go to the lake, she jumps right in. She loves getting a bath. I don't use the harsh shampoos that they sell at stores. Mine is a natural oatmeal shampoo. It leaves the natural oils in her skin.
Contrary to the owners comments you should never bath a Cairn, I have now owned 3 and Jack my current Cairn is 9 years old and has never been bathed, this will if done regularly ruin their coat and cause more harm to them, if Jack gets in a mess I sponge him off only.
My vet gave me a great natural shampoo. They are fine to bathe. I don't know where you heard that, but she has no skin problems. :) She only gets a bath when she has rolled in something stinky outside. As for her scooting, she does that because she's wet, and she's trying to get dry. If she was itchy, she would be scooting and scratching. But as you can see, she is scooting and shaking to get dry. She does that after a trip to the river, too. Lol. She's such a little weirdo.
Don't bath you're Cairn Terrier. Cairn's have very sensitive skin and bathing it will dry out its natural oils and the dog will have skin problems such as iching, scratching, flaking, and smelly dog syndrome where the skin produces access oils to make up for the loss in the natural oils. Please look up proper way to groom the cairn. bath only where necessary and with only water. That is why you're cairn is scooting its because its itching.
Lol. Yeah... It was a mess. Haha. It's much better now. I promise. We just had a garage sale, and so everything was in the house. And we were exhausted from a week long sale, so we'd neglected our housekeeping duties. Hehe. Whoops.
