I woulda given Little Eddie a courtesy fuck if I was one of the Maysle brothers, she woulda been gagging for it. She was pretty fit for a girl in her mid fifties.
This is a horror story about two women; one daughter wants to move on in life and the mother kept her daughter so she wouldn't be alone. Plus both were completely artsy fartsy and there was so much hostility between the two. It's not love, it's dysfunction.
In the documentary...the minute Little Edie explained about the skirt with the pants and pantyhose underneath it, I forgot about all other fashion designers that ever existed in this world. :D
We all know of Jessica Lange's great acting ability in line with Meryl Streep's but I have to say that 2 of the most underrated perfomances as far as young actresses would have to be Drew as little Edie and Sienna Miller as Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl. Both roles required them to completely immerse themselves into the characters and they paid the audience back in spades. High honors to both of you.
This movie was was a great piece of art Drew and Jessica have once again shown what incredible talented artist they truly are. They did big and little Edie proud!
One can never truly understand the weirdness of mother/daughter relationships. I thought they were both excellent. Yes, Jessica should win, but Drew really stretched herself and I think she nailed it.
Both Jessica and Drew gave incredible performances, but if the two of them compete for best actress at the Emmy's the award has to go to Ms. Lange. She was absolutely out of this world. A study in dramatic acting for any actor out there.
It will be a very tough choice if they are both nominated. I watched this yest. and have been haunted by it -- so much that I had to find what I could find about it and see if the original documentary was out there. I still can't believe they lived that way -- and let someone in to film it!
To a point you can only help people that want to be helped. He could not just send in cleaners or force feed them etc - crazy or not - they still owned that house and it was their property. Still, I understand what you are saying - if that was my mother and sister - I would find a way - no matter what - to help them live a better quality life.
Im not so sure the sons did try. Jackie and her sister Lee actually had to MAKE the sons pay the back taxes on Grey Gardens. They were the vitims of male domination in the Bouvier family. Edith's father cut her off when she divorced. He left her a small $75,000 trust. They were raised to be helpless, and when they rebelled, they were punished by having the money for that type of lifestyle removed. One of the sons lived very very well, but Jackie still had to pay the heating and grocery bills?
So what did everyone think? I was impressed and liked the way ot filled in other pieces that the doc couldn't. Drew B. studied with voice coach for nearly 2 years and I think she nearly nailed it. She also lived in complete isolation for three months to taste the emotional and psychological results. She has lil Edie's diariies - she immersed herself. I love the idea that there is a documentary that not only proves that there was no embellishment, but that the truth is far stranger than cable.
I am so excited! I've been checking YouTube every day for new videos, and I'm glad I found this one! It appears that they are doing a decent job, though I'm not so sure about Ms. Barrymore's Little Edie "accent". I don't know if I like the idea of "sort-of" recreating the documentary. I think they should keep it all exact. But hey, that's just my opinion. I'm sure it will be great!
OMG, i just cant wait to see this now, more than ever, it just looks so fantastic, why dont they release this is theaters?......everything looks so real and so good

I loved Jessica as Big Edie, but Drew I am still not 100% convinced. Not sure, why. She did, ok.

We watched this recently and it was fantastic. Both actresses portrayed them perfectly going from the original documentary. A unique and sad story.

I have seen many, many biographical movies.
This one is the best one and by far the most accurate.
They actually re-do the scenes from the documentary in great precision.
If one of them wins, both of them win.
Drew had to stop talking through the side of her mouth for this movie. THat was one of the stipulations for her keeping the part.
Amazing performances.

No, it's really weird. It's painful and hard to understand.
I'll have to respectfully disagree, Drew should win. :)

Great performances! I always wondered why Big Edie's sons didn't help take care of them. Rather sad, really...
