Dad never liked that Im wanting a 97 Riviera. Said its a really high maintenace car. I just think he doesnt want me spending an inheritance on a car that shouldnt top 5k at the most now and found one with around 70k miles on it. Hope your having fun with the Riviera like Ill be having soon I hope.
@Blaqkard In ways these can be high maintenance. Mine was not taken care of mechanically and it shows, so I do get problems more than I like. I recently blew a brake line, but the rust is to blame for that. All in all, I feel its worth owning, its a fun car, and a very unique design. Doing work yourself eases expenses a lot, parts don't cost too much, its mostly labor.
i drive a 99 buick century. i saw one of these cars on the highway once. i thought it looked weird. it looked kind of like my car except it had a weird shape. that cars actually pretty nice.
Well there is point's and condenser ignition that goes by that name. Instead of a solid state coil they have mechanical points that open and close. Davidsfarm has a good video on them.
u saved this from a certain junkyard death. i dont know how much the engine cost, but it reminds me of my old caprice i did the same thing to. car cost me 300. and new engine 1700. and i drove it for 3 years then sold it to an aunt and its still going. nice job moldy. not just mowers, real cars too. you are very handy around the garage!!!! im inspired to rescue another one.
Got the engine for $600 with 60k on it. And I definitely did save this one from the scrap yard. The guy I bought it from was going to haul it to a scrap yard a couple days afterward if I didn't buy it. It was totally worth the work and cost, this car is so much fun to drive!

@AGreedyTree It's a very unique design. One of my friend's refers to it as the space ship on wheels.

You definitely got very lucky with that engine! All in all good deal for how much you bought the car for. How's she doing?

sweet car. that thing is whisper quiet. did you put another 3800 series 2 supercharged in it?
bakuntz1983 1 year ago
@bakuntz1983 Yup, the one I got was out of a 97 Grand Prix GTP with 60k on it.
moldymac 1 year ago
@moldymac nice man. 60K is a spring chicken for a 3800! mine has 166K and still going. probably get over 200K before it dies easily
bakuntz1983 1 year ago
@bakuntz1983 These things will last forever as long as the lower intake gaskets get replaced before they leak. Thats what killed the original motor.
moldymac 1 year ago
@bakuntz1983 try 300 000 kilometers :D i have a 98 regal gs, same engine , 260 000 k runs amazing :D
