  • instead of pushing the snow with your foot you should of gone under a spruce tree were there is not so much snow

  • What knife do you use?

  • lol, my little sister who is 8 is watching this with me and at around 5:35 when you were trying to move the sticks onto the fire she was like "NO!!! why is he destroying his little house that he made?!" lol just thought i'd let you know

  • man you are great!

  • most of the vidoe i true

  • Good demonstration

  • did u see the dere

  • I sarch "how to make the fire"

    I saw 4 video,

    you are the best.

  • The problem I always face is the lager wood not catching fire :( When I put them they extinguish the remaining fire.

  • @rawatashwin666 maybe your putting them on when the fire isnt big enought to light them

  • Comment removed

  • @rawatashwin666 yes this is so true, my fire starts up really good. then my wood doesnt catch on like u said. it happened to me during a 2 hour hike, couldnt cook my bacon, hadnt eaten for 4 hours on that hiking trip.

  • i thought he was throwing him self into the fire 6:04

  • what kind of knife is that???

  • thanks for your videos, I'm a Floridian so you know camping/hiking is not our thing...really helpful

  • @954suzuki i'm Floridian and that's what me and my friends always did growing up. Just go outside, Florida is know for it's diverse ecosystem. Even if you go camping along side the river or beach.

  • fallkniven idun is a very nice knife but have you had any issues with the leather handle in snowy/wet conditions and would you recommend using a leather handled knife in the conditions?

  • 4:19 get down a little and blow on it. Ha ha ha that's what she said.

  • LOL @ the cars driving by at 00:33

  • @Duuze33 Why you've laughed? He didn't lied by saying he is deep in the wilderness. He's not fucking Bear Grylls...

  • @albi131 Its called Irony

  • @Duuze33 Then you clearly don't know what irony is

  • @albi131 Its Ironic because he is teaching survival tactics needed for deep woods survival when an urban form of technology (The Car) passes by. A car isn't something you'd find in the type of survival situation he is depicting.

  • @Duuze33 not cars

  • Dude, I sure hope you didn't start yourself on fire at the end of that video!! Your coat looked like it was too close to that fire!!

  • hah hope and pray for the best, aint gonna help you in the middle of a forest wilderness

  • nice

  • what kind of knife ???

  • what kind of knife is that

  • yo man verry helpfull man thx better than shit on tv

  • I greatly appreciate your videos. i love to go camping in the woods when i am able and you have helped me tramendously when it comes to surviving. THANK YOU very much.

  • I greatly appreciate your videos. i love to go camping in the woods when i am able and you have helped me tramendously when it comes to surviving. THANK YOU very much.

  • thanks for the videos, very realistic and informative!! =]

  • Great video! Thanks! This is very useful for me in a country like Denmark!

  • where to buy flint ??? please inbox

  • if you look closely at your right side you can see a animal moving :)

  • Well presented.

  • man how did you learn to do all of this ?

  • My fire causes wet conditions ;)

  • Excellent instruction - thank you!!

Also like the idea of leaving the immediate woodsource unharvested for later collection when dark/tired etc to minimise time away from fire when you need it most.

Also, really like that knife - kinda sort but real solid. What brand??

  • this info could oneday be very helpful

  • Very handy info.

  • This video makes me laugh. Make fire with FireSteel? It's easy and stupid.

  • is your knife a fallkniven?

  • u can melt the snow for water

  • SWEET VID. All I need to know is how to start a fire withought ANYTHING except the resources around me(no matches or knives). Do you have anything like that?

  • i could see traffic in the background.

  • Okay but, what if you don't have a flint ?

  • @r4hul101 your pretty much fucked

unless you know how to do that drill thing with a bow

  • @r4hul101 oh, yeah, i'd as the same question. flint aren't common for us, asian. and snow is not really wet and damp

  • Did you catch fire in the last scene?

  • Great video. 10/10 very well done

  • with the striker if your right handed have your knife in your right hand already fully extended.

  • but its not wet...

    just saying

  • Good Job, you are very knowledgeable. Good stuff! I hate people that don't give credit to younger guys.

  • :D This is so cool! I'm Definitely Subscribing (:

  • Great job,thx for uploading!greetz from germany!

  • This is so helpfull! Thank you paul! you have surely saved me alot of hassle because i plan on going off the grid into the wilderness for a while.

  • Asian women on the street #lushfmlk.info#

  • WOW I'm impressed you make it look so easy... :)

  • Was the knife an F1??

  • instead of grass for the timber bundle would dried leaves work good? how good compared to the grass you used in the video? i live in rhode island USA.

  • herd of deer in backround to the right

  • @killcom12 i seen that to

  • Sorry , but for me wet conditions are; rain and wind!!!

  • Sorry but you are not in really wet conditions!!! Wet conditions for me are rain and wind!!!

  • Sorry but you are not in really wet conditions!!! Wet conditions for me are rain and wind!!!

  • hey Paul you should be on TV. For one you teach real stuff not that Bear Grylls crap, second you don't torture your audience with freaky sound effects music what not. Last but not least you clearly talk even a mentally reaterded oxymoron can lean from you. Good job Paul.

  • LOL! Thanks... that is funny

  • @miighankurt bear grylls does not suck

  • @miighankurt Bear Grylls crap heheh ur an idiot Grylls is an ultimate survivior all this guy did is teach how build a fire in a place where supply is somewhat available the guy did show a very educational video but to even compare him to Grylls is insane hehe Bear grylls crap? cmon kid grow up.

  • @miighankurt Firstly I totally agree with you, these are the best videos on YT, Bear Grylls is a Hollywood goon and this guy should have his own TV show (instead).

However.. it is spelled retarded* and an oxymoron is a collection of contradictory words so i'm not sure where you were going with that one, I can only assume you meant 'moron'

  • You spelled reaterded bad. You aint got no grammer

  • @BigDumbJerk reaterded, grammer. and then it is him who doesn't have grammar.

  • @miighankurt wel about les stroud..hes was pretty good

  • @miighankurt

Oxymoron - A figure of speech in which two words with opposing meanings are used together intentionally for effect; A contradiction in terms; A paradoxical juxtaposition of two seemingly contradictory words

  • @miighankurt

guess what? That's not what an oxymoron is. Dumbass.

  • @MrJll5ff delete that stuff you put here, it makes you look bad; unless you are not a normal person, in that case keep your comment up here for everyone to see.

  • this was good but i need a video on how to make fire if it was raining :)

  • At 0:20: What could crash on you? A widow something?

  • nice near a a highway

  • @chrismania7158 yea i noticed that to

  • McGyver stuff !!

  • school project kid?

  • What are those animals behind you in the beginning of the video?

  • i really like the knife, what kind is it? does it hold up during baytoning?

  • man where do you get that firestriker from?

  • just seen a few deer cross behind you to the right at :45 to 1:15 or is it something else. nice vid

  • widow maker limb, i never thought of that. thanks man u maybe save my life

  • what type of knife is that you have there? i really like the looks of that knife.

  • Good to know tips. Good job! =)

  • It would be great to show us the same process, when it's really raining

  • ha ha haaaa ur burnin ur coat m8

  • What knife are you using there? Fallkniven?

  • nice

  • My brother you rock!

  • where can i get a magniziam fire striker?

    P.S- the video was helpful

  • @SinnFeinImp pretty much any camping store should have them, sometimes they're caslled a phrao rod

  • A little long winged but on the whole, very useful for novice survivalists to start making fire. Have you thought about or maybe filmed some of the other structures of fires, as each has thier own advantage in certain situations?

  • Are those deer running over HIS left shoulder? Awesome video!

  • Comment removed

  • wtf i never get mine to to start so goood thanks this should help

  • 2 nice vids. Well done. Thanks.

  • Thank you!

  • really usefull!

    5*

  • Thanks!

  • do you hvae a video of how to make a bow drill? If you do cna you message me please! xD oh and send the link to the vid to. TY

  • Yes, there is a video of it on the website... please check it out! Thanks!

  • the position looks very dangerous... he's arm just right across the fire to get the bigger woods, and lying down right after the fire... :S

  • What Do u Have With The Blade

  • Just got finished watching both parts of your video. Nice!

  • ... what do you do if you don't have a knife? Its supposed to be just making it out of nothing...

  • I wanna make a fire right now.

  • hi fellow citezens

  • Very Helpful! You are a life-saver! You should definitely upload your video to this site, Ewisdomtv

  • very good vid

  • Excellent video. Informative and presented very well.

  • Nice video- thank you.

  • Thanks a lot ! I'm going in the woods tonight, and last time I went there with my friend we totally failed at making a fire.I'll have to try this ! 5*

  • Well Done. Nice to know about the flint and knife technique.

  • beautiful. just one tip i want to add, face the opening of your tipi structure (where you put the tinder) TOWARD the wind, this way the wind works FOR you, not AGAINST you, the wind will then blow the flame back into your tipi and create a larger flame. OBVIOUSLY, if you need to shelter it from the wind, you face it AWAY from the wind, to shelter the flame. thanks alot 5/5

  • Excellent tip... thank you for contributing!

  • @HedgehogLeatherworks

    no batoning???

  • dude gg

  • thanks

  • OK, first of all, where can I found that magnesium shit thing in the wood, and second of all...wait I don't know what's second :P

  • this video was very helpful, sir!

today i tried to make my first fire and everything, including myself failed! my camera didnt work properly. the wood was WAY to wet and my both swiss army knifes not sharp enough to hit some wood.

  • Awesome! Glad to hear you are having some fun with this!

  • buy a LEATHERMAN multi tool.

  • 10/10

  • Very good video. Watched it with my little cousin to teach him about the stuff

  • Thank you, this is a great video, it is clearly explained and demonstrated. Great job on both videos, part 1 & 2.

  • dude that was awsome but what else can u use if u dont have that fire madgig? would like any metal work on a hunting knife?

  • No, you can't just bang two pieces of metal together. If you don't have a firesteel or flint you could try starting one using a bow. Search for 'fire bow drill' to see examples.

  • really cool vids :) maybe someone can help me, i live in sweden and have just become interested in survival techniques. i am currently attempting my first bow drill from a forest near my house, but all the guides n vids here show only crazy american wood, i have birch, pine, beech and oak, could any1 point me in the right diection for the best of these woods to use for each part of the bow drill please, considering its wet this time of year. also weather the parts should be dead or alive, ty =)

  • I have never used birch for a bowdrill but I bet it would work quite well. I usually use the same wood for all parts of the bowdrill... good luck!

  • :) thanks, i went out n grabbed some dry spruce today, just about to put the notch in before i went for dinner, now im just carving the notch and about to give it my first ever go =D

  • Excellent! Good luck... you can certainly expect some frustration the first time around!

  • haha yes. i got lots of smoke and a lot of dark brown, fussy dust each time but just couldnt quite push it into an ember, i varied from thin to wide on the bottom of my spindle, lots of pressure to not much, fast to slow rotation. the spruce was really quite dry, any advice? :) i feel it was a bigger success than i expected so im very pleased and encouraged n i will be watchin your vids n reading instructions all night long again lol thanks for the replies! its great encouragement thank you :)

  • Hmmmm.... well, I would stay away from evergreens if possible. I think they are more difficult to make work although I have never used them so I can't say for sure. Also, be sure to check out the full-length article I have about this on the website... and good luck!

  • It's all about rhythm.. don't go to fast or press too hard, because you'll notice that the surface of the notch and your spindle become shiny and smooth. You'll never start a fire once they're shiny and smooth. Go slow and be patient with the bow method, let the heat build up slowly and once you do it a couple times, you'll have it. And yes, stay away from woods with high sap content if you can.

  • Thanks for the vid! Great stuff!

  • hey thank i always move th knife but now i know to keep in it place thank you for the tip keep it up

  • You got it man! Enjoy!

  • i tried this today and failed, the rain killed it. got too wet fast, didn't have dry materials. where do you come from? you have the cleanest sounding language

  • Good ol' USA... good luck with figuring that one out... it can be tough in the rain.

  • lol the usa has a continent of its own, almost... what city or place plz

  • i meant where exactly lol

  • St. Louis, MO

  • I take it all your clothing is made of wool if your getting it that close to the fire?, I've been considering buying a WW2 style woolen great/trench coat, I believe they would add warmth to a sleep system as well as during the day of course, but are flame resistant and I've heard wool is warmer than any other fabric when wet?

  • Hey, yeah I wear a lot of wool and I love it... it does do pretty well when wet... go for it! Good luck!

  • You are extremely knowledgeable and thorough. Each of your videos are well structured, straight to the point, and easy to follow. Impressive communication skills. 5 out of 5! Thanks Paul!

  • Thank you so much! I really appreciate it and I hope you will stay tuned for future videos... much more to come! Have a great week!

  • Very good! You make it look easy :)

  • Thanks!

  • i hope you get paid for doing this stuff so young yet so knowledgeable.

I agree with heialeks to about how it seems you care while expert village doesn't even know what they are talking about.

    Subscribed.

  • Thanks I appreciate it! Right now I think of these videos as a gift to the community... I make a living from the leather work business that I run... stay tuned and stay in touch!

  • Great video, and you seem like you care. More than I can say about those xprtvillage people.

  • Thanks so much!

  • Why its not built like the self feeding fire?

  • great vid!!! but can you plz make a vid about making fire in the rain ?

  • Thanks! At some point I will... I need some more practice though!

  • I am definetly gonna try it ...awesome video..you are dooing a good job......as an observation(you are not the tipical survivalist guy.. you kinda hot too)

  • You are wonderful. But hey, what if it is raining?

  • Yeah... it is way harder if it is raining... I will have to make a video about that at some point.. thanks for commenting!

  • I keep (used)candle wax and greesed cotton balls with me just in case I can get my fire going that is unseen wetness in the wood or wind problems its got out of a cold dark night

  • Nice! Good tip!

  • outside in the wild , this will help alot thanks alot , and we might need this info soon

  • Yep... have fun out there and be safe!

  • Awesome!!! just found your channel today from a Dave Canterbury review of the Kabar sheath. Subbed and 5/5.

  • Sweet! Dave is the man... glad to have you aboard!

  • Well done! Have you moved on to the upside down fire stack at this point, and which do you prefer? I'm relegated to a cast iron chimnia in the burbs at this point in time and need to live vicariously!

  • LOL! That is hilarious... yes, I now use this method almost exclusively... thanks for commenting and for the laugh!

  • Great vid Paul, you make quite a good presenter for this material

  • Thank you!

  • thanks good to know here in cold sweden :D

  • awesome....

  • I found a mistake you did.

After igniting the tinderball you placed the knife on wet grond, making it exposable to ironoxide and you might lose it. Place it directly in its holder. Anyways great video, 5/5.

  • Yep... mistakes happen... I have yet to do anything perfectly... but thanks for pointing that out! I appreciate the observation!
