I used to live in NC and they do get snazzy cop cars but still a car can only do corners so fast, and takes them quite a while to get up to speed. I was stationed there in the marines and probably got away from the NC cops by Camp Lejune (at the time they had Mustang GT's w a Lightbar on top and the police package)....out of about the 10x they would get behind me, the 04 GSXR 1000 won every time :) sorry guys but if you can CONTROL your bike, you will always beat any cop car. The 3.5 is faster than the Crown Vic is. You can outrun the Crown Vic in a quad cab with a hemi too. A police officer can drive slower on straightaways and still stay with you. The speed is in the corners. Your Quad Cab with the Hemi WILL NOT out corner a Crown Vic or a 3.5 Charger.

The 3.5 is typically cheaper than a Crown Vic too, so you're getting a faster car, with better resale value, or less money. So how is it a waste?

Actually...yes, the 3.5 is faster than the crown vic, which typically tops out at about 124-126 mph, some unregulated ones top out around 130. The 3.5 easily does 135.

not taking off from red lights or up to about 70-80mph though, maybe top speed by a few mph's. But you'll never hit those speeds going to a call. You need more take off speed with so many stops you have to do for red lights and stuff then take off again.

And you know this how? I've had a Crown Vic, a 3.5 Charger and Hemi Charger as police cars now. The 3.5 easily outperformed the Crown Vic. The CV is heavy and does in fact take longer to get up to speed. In fact, the only thing the CV has, is better brakes and a better crash rating. For that reason alone, I wish I had mine CV back.

well..we've compared take off's at red lights..and the crown vic beat the 3.5 in a race to 60. . don't know im talking about personal experience. Not sure other factors that were in place for either your situation or mine.

The Vics tend to ride a lot smoother as well. I've driven the OLD Vics and an old Caprice with the LS1, and got to ride along in the 3.5 Charger and I say the newer Vic gets it, hands down. I can understand why the elderly love these cars!

Well first of all I dont see the need to send that to me, but this is the State not city's, and cities have budgets that only the V6 Charger can fill, not the hemi equipped units, Ford is going to stop making the CVPIs eventually and these are the next best thing.

I see your point.. but the base price for a charger hemi vs an interceptor are relatively close. the charger offers the 5.7 liter with fuel shut off, where the interceptor only offers the 4.6. You might ask why do you need such a large engine in a patrol car.. and the answer is you dont but the NCSHP are not city cops and frequently exceed maximum RPMs when engaging speeders as well as speeds well over 130mph. If you are looking for conservation question excessive, expencive LED lights and acc.

The V6 version of a charger uses less fuel than a crown Vic but the Crown Vic can blow the V6 away. My dad is a trooper and he was testing one out in his zone and he said he liked the crown vic better. But thats because that charger was a V6. Im sure if he had the V8 version than he would like that better. but it would use just as much gas as the crown vic

I did the research for our department, and the V-6 Charger and the Crown are pretty much equal as far as speed and acceleration, but the Charger handles better and gets better gas milage. The Hemi gets the same gas milage as the Crown. The nice thing about the Crown is the size and reliability. Each one has its stregths and weaknesses. The V6 Charger is approximately $3,500 cheaper (department cost from state) than the Crown, and the Hemi is about $800 more than the Crown. Both are good.
