To all the simple minded morons who think this is police harassment:
These officers could be sleeping in a room somewhere, but they are actually working and doing what they were hired to do.
If anyone had someone they care about working in that federal building you would be praising this guy for being diligent and mindful of people photographing and hanging out by the building.
As "tampabaynews" wrote, "It's not a do-what-ever-I-want badge . . . Bottom line, the photographer is left alone after the officers chat." The heavy-set officer knew the law, followed the law, acted professionally, and ended the encounter once the photographer terminated his consent.
And yes, I definitely have a problem with authority when those in authority act in excess of that authority. That you don't is sad.
While the consensual encounter witnessed in this video is legal, once the photographer declines to answer the armed government agents' questions then that is the end of the consensual encounter. PERIOD!
Furthermore, the armed government agent has ZERO authority to prevent his photograph from being taken while engaged in his duties in a public space just as the photographer has no right to prevent government agents taking his picture while he is in a public area.
That you consider it reasonable to be confronted by armed government agents, questioned and asked to produce identification so that a record of that "contact" can be generated and entered into a government database merely for engaging in lawful conduct is sad, for you and for the country. I do not believe it is reasonable to be confronted by armed government agents for the non-criminal activity of photography from a public street.
@TheOriginalDecider Your "confrontation" is called a conversation. He had no reason to feel he wasn't free to go. The photographer was free to leave anytime, he was not detained in ANY way. The officer simply did not want to be on camera, a reasonable request. You refuse to admit that this guy was instigating trouble, angering the officer. The whole security concept of the encounter seems to evade you but my guess is that you simply have disdain for law enforcement. No violation here!
1. The photographer did not produce ID despite the officers demand b/c officer lacked authority to force photographer to produce ID.
2. The armed govt. agent had his picture taken multiple times despite his objection and anger and did NOTHING about it because he could not legally prevent it.
3. The officers were free to leave and did leave while the photographer remained.
4. The officers exceeded their authority, the photographer stood his ground, officers walked away.
Furthermore, in some states its the law to carry ID and show it upon request to a state/ local Police officer (different from a federal officer). I would explain the reason why but that would be a waste of time. These officers were polite and even asked please don't take pictures of us, he even told the photographer where HE lived!! This is your example of abuse of power? What a joke! And what a douche this cameraman is.
So typical of progressives, the camera man has the right to say what he wants and take pictures of what he wants (and this is true) but somehow the officer loses his first amendment rights. Simple rule, if you can ask it so can an officer. The photographer was not under arrest and therefore free to leave if he wanted to, no violation here. The officer merely didn't want to be on tape and voiced his desire, so what? One more time, he doesn't lose his rights as a citizen because he has a badge!!!
@Jllucky8 wrote, "One more time, he doesn't lose his rights as a citizen because he has a badge!!!"
Similarly, the officer has no authority to prevent his picture being taken in a public place just as a civilian has no authority to prevent his picture being taken in a public place.
Furthermore, it is a certainty that the photographer's image had already been captured on a government operated high-definition CCTV system.
As the photograpther was breaking no laws, he was also free to stay.
@TheOriginalDecider You see if an officer asks me something that is reasonable, as in this scenerio; I have no problem letting him know what I am doing. I don't need to have a verbal joust with him, I know the guy is just doing his job. The point that you and the other guy fail to identify is that the officer objects not of pictures being taken of the building but of HIM. And the pictires of the officer were being taken (as was most likely everything else) to bust balls. And that is the problem.
Civil liberties are not dependent upon the motivation of the individual engaging in lawful conduct.
As free citizens of a CONSTITUTIONAL Republic, asserting our civil liberties is "just doing [our] job," even when it means having a verbal joust with armed government agents.
While you can pretend otherwise, to one degree or another being confronted in any manner by armed government agents is inherently coercive.
There was no lawful order, only a question. Secondly, do you know what Modis Operandi is? You know how burglars "case" a house before a burglary? Well would be terrorists have been known to "case" and photograph their targets such as um, federal buildings. Surprising huh? What the officers were doing was well within the scope of their duty, even if thats too much for you to comprehend. You demonstrate the opinions of people who have disdain for authority. Especially if the laws don't suit you.
what in the fuck is the reason for all these douche bag cops having to ask why your taking pictures. Is there reasoning that, a terrorist is going to stand out in front, like a sore thumb, in front of a public building to gain info for a future attack. How fucking stupid. Dont they see they are just portraying themselves as dumbasses? Any retarded terrorist would have no problem doing these guys in. They need to start learning what to look for.
The bald one needs to be sent back to the academy for remedial training. What an embarrassing idiot. The other one should be a supervisor, he obviously paid attention in the academy when they briefly touched on the constitution.
These FPS officers are only doing their job, the idiot that posted this is only doing this to break balls. What a loser, these officers were merely trying to determine who was taking photos of a federal building in the age of terrorism. If the idiot taking these photos was in a federal building during a bombing he would be the first to say that these FPS officers didn't do their jobs, break the balls of those who protect us. Good idea.
@tampabaynews If you want to make a point, please make a valid one. Stopping to take photographs of a federal building is a bit different than merely walking or driving by. These officers are there to monitor and protect the federal building, remember the Murrah building in Oklahoma? These are the types of things these officers are trying to prevent, exploitation of the law by a half-wit with a camera doesn't impress me. And if you worked in that building you would appreciate those officers.
@Jllucky8 Show me where it is against the law to videotape a government building. In fact, DHS released a directive last month to remind officials that it is legal to photograph the exterior federal facilities. It's not exploitation of the law, it's exercising your rights. If people don't exercise the right to videotape things in public view, it will go away and Pandora's Box will be opened. I get harassed for shooting newsworthy events on a weekly basis, and I sure as hell stand up for myself.
@tampabaynews Please, watch the video again "Mr. Press man" No one said taking photos of the Fed building was illegal, that's what your saying. Clearly, a reasonable person can understand why these officers were asking the questions they asked, such as the question about affiliations with any particular groups. This idiot knew he was being a ball buster and loved ever minute of it. The Pandora's box is in your head, everything in life isn't black and white, these men are trying to protect.
@Jllucky8 If it is not illegal, then why are they questioning him? What crime may have the photographer committed to justify questioning? You still haven't answered that fundamental question. And it's not just people who are videotaping in civil protest, people who are recording for other purposes such as art and news receive the same harassment as well. Look around! Just because someone is doing something that makes you uncomfortable, doesn't make it crime.
@tampabaynews Well last I checked asking a simple question didn't require a search warrant. No crime needs to be committed in order to do so. I'll say it one more time, just because a person is in a uniform doesn't mean he loses his rights to ask anyone a question. He also asked that he not be photographed which a lot of people would request from a stranger. He doesn't lose his rights because of a uniform. Just as the photographer was free to refuse, the officer was free to ask, comprehend?
@tampabaynews People like you and this jerk with the camera think you are great American patriots, when in fact all you do is degrade the protection provided by those who are charged with those duties. This progressive movement in America is what is making us unable to defend our own country, from constitutional rights given to enemy combatants to this crap. Its legal to curse and old man and to take a seat from a pregnant lady on the bus but is it right? Of course not. Nor is this photographer.
@Jllucky8 I am talking about exercising our rights as US citizens, not enemy combatants. I'm flattered, but I don't consider myself a patriot, I just don't comply with unlawful orders like an uninformed sheep. And I said nothing about a search warrant, talk about putting words in my mouth. Any person, building, and object in public view is subject to photography, period. An officer in uniform is held to a higher standard and must learn not let personal feelings get the best of them....
@Jllucky8 BTW, listen to what the heavy-set officer explains to the other officer at the end of the video. The heavier officer clearly understands the law and clearly is able to "not take it personally," The heavier officer acknowledges that the law is the law, that no law is being broken and that if the photographer does not want to talk during this consensual encounter then he doesn't consent and it's OVER.
@TheOriginalDecider Still not sure what the point of your post was. As I stated below the cameraman has the right to refuse. Unfortunatly, what you call "mind set" I call helping an officer do his job. He was not being an authoritarian but rather he was observent and decided to engage the photographer in conversation so he could make a decision as to weather or not there was a threat. That is pretty simple. If you think he was being abusive then you clearly have a problem with authority.
@Jllucky8 Finally, the officer requested the photographers ID and said he cannot take pictures after he requested the photographer to stop (not true by the way). That makes it more than a casual conversation with simple questions. LEO must have reasoning other than "Because I asked/told you so." It's not a do-what-ever-I-want badge, and I feel sorry for you if you feel that way. Bottom line, the photographer is left alone after the officers chat. That says it better than I can say it. Cheers!
@tampabaynews wrote, "It's not a do-what-ever-I-want badge[.]"
NICE. I'm gonna stash that one away for use at a later date.
BTW, what is it about people like "@Jllucky8" that results in them being so far up the back door of "AUTHORITY" such that they'll defend "authority" even when being used in an abusive and/or coercive manner?
I just don't understand that mindset.
I think maybe "IAmTroubleMakerToo."
P.S. Saw old Dali museum about 15 times, can't wait to head your way to see the update.
@mindprism Glad you brought up "Google", ever look at their maps? What you will notice is that all faces and license plates are blurred because "Google" had many complaints as well as legal battles. How does your foot taste? It's called being "decent" something that you probably don't understand. Our laws were meant to be tempered with dignity and common sense, they are not black and white.

This is great. "You look like a tourist." He was profiling you. Perfect example of paranoia that has encompassed this country re taking pictures since 911. Wake up America, photography is the hobby and livelihood of millions of Americans. If you can see it from a public place, you can take a picture of it from there, this includes other people who are in public places, like it or not. (How you use it is another story.)
@spokenwiznerdz A cop coming up to ask questions is something worthy of taking a picture of and he was in his perfect legal right to take pictures if the cop doesn't like it well that's his problem. You know if fewer people kowtow to badges America would be better off as police it seems have forgotten who they work for.
@frenchfries508 Yeah "stupid moron" lets all give up our civil liberties so we can be just like the countries who spawn the terrorists. Oh wait that sounds stupid. Maybe me and frenchfries508 need to pull our heads from our ass.
At the time this video was shot FPS was still in the process of transitioning away from ICE (both are still part of DHS). In fact, both of these officers worn badges that clearly identified them as ICE.
Actually, they are ICE agents as indicated by their badges and patches on their uniforms. Also, the SUV they pulled up in was marked as Department of Homeland Security. I am the photographer and I am certain about those facts.
@iamtroublemaker1 Look, like it or not America is not, even in an age of terrorism becoming even close to a big-brother state. However, you have to understand these are federal officers, and you are taking pictures of a federal facility in a time of war and ultimately a time of terrorism. These guys are simply doing there jobs.
@X46RAPTOR As he said he had no problem with them doing their job as long as it doesn't interfere with his civil rights. If you don't like your rights you can always give them up and move to a country that doesn't have them. Personally I like my rights and police need to be reminded this is not a police state yet. I actually applaud the portly officer as he KNOWS the law and even went so far as to educate his partner which sadly is a rarity these days.
@iamtroublemaker1 No you are wrong, they are not ICE "agents" they were officers under ICE. ICE Special Agents are investigators and do not wear uniforms nor do they guard fedreal buildings. ICE agents only do immigration work. If your going to harrass people put their for the public's safety at least get some facts correct about those you harrass.
I do this for a living, you dont weve had about 75 people take pictures of our bldg over the past 7 years.weve never detained a single one of them.I guess the talliban ,the shooting in las vegas, the plane flying into the irs bldg.oklahoma city, the 5000 dead american troups.all must be government propaganda.I will not respond to any more comments, but dont worry when the next 911 happends Ill be here to watch your back no matter how big of a morron you are.
If he didn't stand up for his rights he would be detained. Once they know you see them as an authority figure they jump on you, because they are power hungry control freaks just like every other Fed
Its amazing people expect those of us in security and law enforcement to protect them and then make stupid comments about this video.I work in that building I glad those officers did there job. This is the perfect example of the kind of nuts we encounter every day.If this guy want to do something important for his country he should go try to find some of the terrorist that are already here waiting to blow him up and take pictures of them. Wake up america and get a life.
You are an ignoramus of the highest level. Keep believing your propaganda and give over your rights to the wolves who will devour you after they are done playing with you. You fear-based parasite.
get real....2 guys randomly taking pictures of federal buildings and THAT'S NOT SUSPICIOUS?!!!...ESPECIALLY AFTER 9/11.....THATS EXACTLY HOW THE TERRORISTS SCOPED OUT BUILDINGS ALL AROUND NYC......trouble maker should get a real job instead of going around trying to instigate a situation.... A REAL DUMBASS!!! COME TO NEW YORK AND DO THAT SAME SHIT!.... U BET WE NEW YORKERS WOULD QUESTION THEIR ACTIONS, YEAH...EVEN IF THEY'RE GAY!!..
Now that is impressive...the officer who knows the law calming the ignorant officer before he violates someones civil rights. I didn't think I would ever live to see the day.
Agreed... I almost choked on my drink when I heard him say "Carry on... and have a nice day". It's as if the officer on the right said something like - 'This guy actually knows his rights, it isn't worth messing with him'.
@mkwn Actually you are WRONG. In most states you can not record audio of someone without their permission. In fact it is a felony. And this asshole should be arrested.
First of all that only applies to private citizens. They are public officers.
Secondly they are on public property. That building and many other public and private buildings have cameras facing the street. I know because I own one. I don't have to get anyone's permission to set up my cameras..why? Because they are filming public property. If your assertion were true i would have thousands of lawsuits daily.
Name some states and the statutory laws you are referring to..at least 1.
This is what happened to me yesterday! I got it on tape too

LordCreo 1 year ago
what in the fuck is the reason for all these douche bag cops having to ask why your taking pictures.

Gunzshow55312 1 year ago
@Jadi444 They are not ICE agents, they are Fedel protective service (FPS) officers that used to be under ICE. They are now under GSA.
Jllucky8 1 year ago
@yeomalt2 There trying to determine if someone works for an agency, organization or group that has an anti government philosophy.
Jllucky8 1 year ago
These FPS officers are only doing their job, the idiot that posted this is only doing this to break balls. What a loser, these officers were merely trying to determine who was taking photos of a federal building in the age of terrorism. If the idiot taking these photos was in a federal building during a bombing he would be the first to say that these FPS officers didn't do their jobs, break the balls of those who protect us. Good idea.
Jllucky8 1 year ago
@Jllucky8 And next they'll stop people who drive or walk by the building. I guess that's okay too?
tampabaynews 1 year ago
@tampabaynews If you want to make a point, please make a valid one. Stopping to take photographs of a federal building is a bit different than merely walking or driving by. These officers are there to monitor and protect the federal building, remember the Murrah building in Oklahoma? These are the types of things these officers are trying to prevent, exploitation of the law by a half-wit with a camera doesn't impress me. And if you worked in that building you would appreciate those officers.
Jllucky8 1 year ago
@Jllucky8 Show me where it is against the law to videotape a government building. In fact, DHS released a directive last month to remind officials that it is legal to photograph the exterior federal facilities. It's not exploitation of the law, it's exercising your rights. If people don't exercise the right to videotape things in public view, it will go away and Pandora's Box will be opened. I get harassed for shooting newsworthy events on a weekly basis, and I sure as hell stand up for myself.
tampabaynews 1 year ago
@tampabaynews Correction, in August.
tampabaynews 1 year ago
@tampabaynews Please, watch the video again "Mr. Press man" No one said taking photos of the Fed building was illegal, that's what your saying. Clearly, a reasonable person can understand why these officers were asking the questions they asked, such as the question about affiliations with any particular groups. This idiot knew he was being a ball buster and loved ever minute of it. The Pandora's box is in your head, everything in life isn't black and white, these men are trying to protect.
Jllucky8 1 year ago
@Jllucky8 If it is not illegal, then why are they questioning him? What crime may have the photographer committed to justify questioning? You still haven't answered that fundamental question. And it's not just people who are videotaping in civil protest, people who are recording for other purposes such as art and news receive the same harassment as well. Look around! Just because someone is doing something that makes you uncomfortable, doesn't make it crime.
tampabaynews 1 year ago
@tampabaynews Well last I checked asking a simple question didn't require a search warrant. No crime needs to be committed in order to do so. I'll say it one more time, just because a person is in a uniform doesn't mean he loses his rights to ask anyone a question. He also asked that he not be photographed which a lot of people would request from a stranger. He doesn't lose his rights because of a uniform. Just as the photographer was free to refuse, the officer was free to ask, comprehend?
Jllucky8 1 year ago
@tampabaynews People like you and this jerk with the camera think you are great American patriots, when in fact all you do is degrade the protection provided by those who are charged with those duties. This progressive movement in America is what is making us unable to defend our own country, from constitutional rights given to enemy combatants to this crap. Its legal to curse and old man and to take a seat from a pregnant lady on the bus but is it right? Of course not. Nor is this photographer.
Jllucky8 1 year ago
@Jllucky8 I am talking about exercising our rights as US citizens, not enemy combatants. I'm flattered, but I don't consider myself a patriot, I just don't comply with unlawful orders like an uninformed sheep. And I said nothing about a search warrant, talk about putting words in my mouth. Any person, building, and object in public view is subject to photography, period. An officer in uniform is held to a higher standard and must learn not let personal feelings get the best of them....
tampabaynews 1 year ago
@tampabaynews BTW did you notice this guy's screen name by any chance? NOW THAT SAYS IT ALL!!
Jllucky8 1 year ago
@Jllucky8 BTW, listen to what the heavy-set officer explains to the other officer at the end of the video. The heavier officer clearly understands the law and clearly is able to "not take it personally," The heavier officer acknowledges that the law is the law, that no law is being broken and that if the photographer does not want to talk during this consensual encounter then he doesn't consent and it's OVER.
Textbook on how it is suppose to work.
TheOriginalDecider 1 year ago
@TheOriginalDecider Still not sure what the point of your post was. As I stated below the cameraman has the right to refuse. Unfortunatly, what you call "mind set" I call helping an officer do his job. He was not being an authoritarian but rather he was observent and decided to engage the photographer in conversation so he could make a decision as to weather or not there was a threat. That is pretty simple. If you think he was being abusive then you clearly have a problem with authority.
Jllucky8 1 year ago
@Jllucky8 Finally, the officer requested the photographers ID and said he cannot take pictures after he requested the photographer to stop (not true by the way). That makes it more than a casual conversation with simple questions. LEO must have reasoning other than "Because I asked/told you so." It's not a do-what-ever-I-want badge, and I feel sorry for you if you feel that way. Bottom line, the photographer is left alone after the officers chat. That says it better than I can say it. Cheers!

@tampabaynews wrote, "It's not a do-what-ever-I-want badge[.]"

I am the photographer and I am certain about those facts.
iamtroublemaker1 1 year ago
@iamtroublemaker1 Look, like it or not America is not, even in an age of terrorism becoming even close to a big-brother state. However, you have to understand these are federal officers, and you are taking pictures of a federal facility in a time of war and ultimately a time of terrorism. These guys are simply doing there jobs.
X46RAPTOR 1 year ago
@X46RAPTOR As he said he had no problem with them doing their job as long as it doesn't interfere with his civil rights. If you don't like your rights you can always give them up and move to a country that doesn't have them. Personally I like my rights and police need to be reminded this is not a police state yet. I actually applaud the portly officer as he KNOWS the law and even went so far as to educate his partner which sadly is a rarity these days.
kilroy238 1 year ago
@iamtroublemaker1 No you are wrong, they are not ICE "agents" they were officers under ICE. ICE Special Agents are investigators and do not wear uniforms nor do they guard fedreal buildings. ICE agents only do immigration work. If your going to harrass people put their for the public's safety at least get some facts correct about those you harrass.

Agreed... I almost choked on my drink when I heard him say "Carry on... and have a nice day". It's as if the officer on the right said something like - 'This guy actually knows his rights, it isn't worth messing with him'.
WeAreSoScrewed 2 years ago 2
@mkwn Actually you are WRONG. In most states you can not record audio of someone without their permission. In fact it is a felony. And this asshole should be arrested.
R396 1 year ago
@R396
