To all you people saying "just play it on guitar," this is how they play it live. They use these exact effects and the guitarist is stepping on these pedals as he's playing another guitar part. With two guitarists it's impossible to get the sound on the track without using these samples and still get the other two parts that make up the sound of the song. Quit your bitching and learn an instrument.
actually, keyboardist samples the end of "Ice Monster" from his laptop (which is also used for most all the electronic drum samples, like Dr. L'ling, and The Pig War, as well as other things), which is the track right before this song on the album, then Dave plays this on the DL-4, which he usually sets the samples for before they start playing, since they tend to open with this song most of the time.
My mate always talks about having 2 DL4s and ive always wondered why when one of them can do an awesome enough job but now i see why! Makes me wonder what can be done with 4 of them or even more!
hey im not trying to be a dick but i think the chords are either wrong or are missing some notes. sounds great but it sounds a little different. great video either way. sorry if you have already pointed this out elsewhere.
on the repeating notes (i can only describe them as sounding like a CD skipping? sorry) are you just holding the play button down? and is this only possible with 2 DL4's? i have one and i hold the play button down and get nothing.
No, the 2nd sample is recorded separately as an 8th note. That means in 4 beats, there will be 8 samples. The first one is recorded as a Quarter note. I'll upload a new video explaining how to do it in a few days.
record and stop recording / play continuously/ play once/ and half speed (or double speed) respectively. However, like Dave Knudson does, you can make one DL4 sound like several samples. He does this in "Fulfill the dream" as well as several other songs.
Yeah they do. Dave samples each chord and then plays em back just like I am. These ones suck though, when I get my camera fixed I'll upload some better ones.
Dave has 4 of these, and Jake has at least 2 last time I saw them.
It really depends on what you wanna do. But I would just say: go to a store and check out each one and see which one you prefer. I've never gotten to use a giga-delay, but they look awesome.
yeah I agree with him. I have a giga delay and its fantastic, tones of features and doesnt drain your tone much. DL-4s are cool too, you definitely cant sample stuff with a DD20 like you can with the DL-4. however DL-4s are notorious for breaking down so keep that in mind. definitely read up on both and get atleast a good 30 minutes with each pedal before making a buy, you really need to tinker with delay pedals to see what theyre really capable of
wow, this is awesome. i'm just getting into minus the bear and i thought those quirky sampled parts were just arranged in a computer and played back. i had no idea he sampled/looped them live with these pedals.

@TheMotiveFallacy you can't play the song only using your hands, since parts of it have both the pedals going as well as you playing guitar...

alright mate, can you have up to 4 samples on each pedal (like one per footswitch?) im seriousy consdering buying one, are they easy to program?
BOOM4SHOT 3 years ago
No, each switch controls the sample differently:
record and stop recording / play continuously/ play once/ and half speed (or double speed) respectively. However, like Dave Knudson does, you can make one DL4 sound like several samples. He does this in "Fulfill the dream" as well as several other songs.
MrClark86 3 years ago

MrClark86 3 years ago
really? when i saw them, it was like a floor show, so i only saw one, though only jake was in front of me.
Are they worth the buy though? what would you prefer, these or the boss giga delay?
i say the dl4 only cuz of the built in loop station:D
you wouldn't happen to live in orlando would you?
