Petro knows the best way to get noticed is not by cheap-shotting the unknown or untalented. You don't get a rise by mentioning the fact Emmylou still sells out concerts and still records thirty years after the seventies, or that she is revered as the greatest country folkie working today. His Mommy tucks him in before Letterman, so he doesn't see her rested voice caress a song as few ever do. Snark was invented to give guys like that a life.
It's easy to be critical but I wonder do you come from a musical background? Do you sing? As a singer myself you have bad days and you have good days as well. The voice is a very elastic instrument. I have followed Emmylou's carreer from it's beginnings and I can say at least for me she has gotten better with age. Her feeling of a song is rare and few can match her in this. She is an true artist. Keep on singin girl!!!!!!
@ ajames757ify. I still feel pretty intelligent, thank you, responding to a groupie leaping to the defense of a burnt out singer who was great in the seventies, but simply aged. So fuck off.
@PetroniusSatyricon69 ouch, I'm wounded petro, no need for profanity, the last refuge of a forum fool. look, emmylou has probably earned a few million dollars and the love of millions while providing a generation or two with great music. Yes, she's older and diminished, but she's still going. what have you achieved in your miserable, small life?
HI MARNIE GOT A NEW CHANNEL IT IS [ MARNIE696] 2 LIVE SONGS ON IT FOR THE MOO. ONE IS THE SHOW MUST GO ON. GO AND HAVE A LOOK AND FRIEND HER AND GIVE COMMENTS THANKS
It is sad to see singers trying to milk it when they are past it She has to talk the lyrics and cannot hit high notes. Compare this with her sensational version from the 70s
@PetroniusSatyricon69 a thoroughly ignorant comment. in the midst of 23 shows in 35 days touring the album her voice broke at times in a live performance. Wow, don't you feel intelligent now.
With all the hogwash over Emmylou, enunciation, she will forever be a relic in folk and country. She has a sweet, powerful voice and yes, feels with hear music!!!!!!!!
WOW!!! What an absolutely stunning version of this GREAT song. This is why Emmylou Harris is one of my all time favorites. She is the soulful Angel who can break your heart with just one little subtle inflection. There is so much pain, strength, beauty, joy, honesty and wisdom in her voice. From it, one can sense the extraordinary mortal being from which this voice resonates and projects. And as great as she's been, she just seems to get better and better with time's passing. How lucky are we?
I've gotten frustrated with Emmylou's enunciation over the years, and how much she slurs and mumbles. Compare this version with the version from 1977 also here on YouTube.
@SandyEggoGuy well excuse a person for gettin older.
Still her voice can move the heavens and u can hear the emotion and depth in her voice so to start nitpicking over something so trivial just shows ur OCB potential.
U can hear the lyrics and dont forget its sung live without the digital enhancing
@Circumpunk lol i wasnt really insulting the poster :p Just wanted to say that if u critizise a person when shes 29 years older and on a song which is sung so good live you have to be a bit nuts lol
and ocb is just obsessive compulsory behaviour and to nitpick over small stuff is that in my humble opinion lol
@SandyEggoGuy I know what you mean, but I think as the years go on, Emmylou figures we all know the words and puts her energies into the emotion rather than the enunciation. I LOVE all the versions and just sing my heart out along with them.
Great version,no doubt about it,fived and faved. What I do doubt is the presence of Mark Knopfler.I love his and Emmy's collaberations but I don't think this is one of them. Please correct me if I'm wrong.:)
I Like any version of this song. The song is great and Emmy's voice is greater. I love Emmy's voice since the first time I've heard it in a movie called Baja, Oklahoma, with Willie Nelson , Peter Coyote, Lesley Ann Waren e Julia Roberts. Sh was singin Save The Last Dance For Me.
Emmy Lou, you are an amazing aritst, your voice is so overpowering, just makes me want to cry - your face is just as beautiful as it was 30 years ago. I must confess this is my favorite song & "love hurts" with Gram - I feel the sorrow still in your voice....your #1 fan...

I think this would have been good to see live - shame they didn't do it twenty years earlier when they still had their marbles :)

When you lose someone, and you will, you will be grateful for this song when you are unable to express your feelings.
