I remember working a contracting job in Downey where I commuted daily to/from El Segundo last summer on my motorcycle. On my commute home westbound on the 105, I remembered entering the freeway feeling the 85 degree heat at the Lakewood Blvd on-ramp, but as I rode westward, the temperature would start to drop until I reached the western terminus and it would only be 65.
At 0:53 there was the house the early Metallica used for the very first rehearsals back in 1981. It was owned by bass player McGovney's dad; he let his son and the other band members live & play there because the house was soon due to be demolished for the I-105. Love your videos, by the way.
Only bad thing I noticed about the carpool in California, is your bound to run into someone going obnoxiously slow. Slower than the flow of the general lanes.
@FreewayBrent nice video! i am a big fan! really enjoy your night time videos. i was wondering if you had any northbound 99 to Bakersfield. i know not much interchanges but would love to see some of my hometown. i live in boise, idaho now so don't get many chances to visit as much. well keep up the great work, thanks!
@Nambriz13: I do have some footage of Bakersfield's freeway system, but they're on my old camcorder, which was a rather poor choice regarding image stabilization. I will probably put that footage together sometime soon, and upload it to my brand new alternative YouTube site; FreewayBrentLite.
I still can't get over how your Flip camera can produce such a clear and colorful video like this. The history of how this freeway came to be and the concessions that had to be made are really interesting to read. This road was my first taste of LA last summer, so thanks for bringing those memories back. Great job, as always!
@CosmoPhotography: Yeah, I'm *very* happy with my purchase. There's a few minor limitations to it, such as the fact that it only holds 2 hours of footage. But it only takes a few minutes to upload the 8 GB max to my laptop, so no biggy. And because it only uses external lithium-ion batteries, you can just swap a dead one for a fully charged battery (they're only $20 on amazon). I seriously recommend you pick one up for like $130 at Best Buy, before they sell out for good.
What a great way to start the weekend! Thank you. Central California, where I live, just doesn't have those crazy interchanges, though your video of CA 17 is still my favorite.
@IsoscelesKramer: Shit, walking around inside of LAX is what I would have expected from a no-thrills airport from the old Soviet Union, lol. Dark, character-less concrete walls, little in the way of architecture; really about as dull of an airport as they come in the 1st world.
Damn, that ride totally rocked!! ... Geez!!, I am astounded by interchange (3:39), the infrastructure are amazing. I really enjoyed the ride, Brent .... Always a pleasure to see something from California area :)))
Excellent, been looking forward to seeing that road for some time. Parts of I-105 have been in so many movies it should part of the screen actors guild. I believe there was a prominent scene in "Falling Down" with the 405 interchange during it's construction. Great synching, big thumbs up!
@Freewayjim: lol @ "screen actors guild." Yeah, that's not a bad way to think of it. I had you in mind, when deciding which video to work on next. Figured you'd want to see this one.
Great video Brent! I was hoping you'd post this up. With my sister living in these parts I'll be visiting eventually. Seems like a unique freeway for LA with the metro in the center like that.
@eluko79: Thanks, man! Which part of LA does your sister live in? You really should rent a car (or borrow your sister's) when you come here. You'll have a blast driving all over Southern California.
I-210 also has a rail line running down it for a few miles (the Gold Line), just east of CA 134. There's also the Metrolink tracks that run down the median of I-10, once you get east of downtown Los Angeles.
@FreewayBrent She lives in the Long Beach area. I'm going to try to visit this winter. I'll be a bit overwhelmed but I got a few places in mind I want to check out.
@eluko79: If you're able to take 2 weeks off, I can give you a laundry-list of places to check out (will even give you specific addresses, so you won't have to fumble for asking locals on how to find these specific places that I'll jot down for you). San Diego should be a priority for you, if you have at least a week.
I'm impressed, I watched the I-110 north LA video, it is a huge interchange much like you would see in Texas with the large high elevated stacks. IMO it is one of the greats, I'll post it on my wall of fame for stack interchanges. Screw what plans do you ahve for this summer, you shooting more of Texas or do you plan on traveling further east or west?
@bmbsage: Oh yeah. I'll be able to offer a better perspective of that interchange, one I work on my new footage of I-110 (it'll look drastically better with the new camcorder).
@bmbsage The judge Harry pregerson interchange is just as impressive as any interchange throughout Texas IMO. Ive seen them all in texas and this one in los Angeles and It's stands out for the fact it's 110 ft tall. Features 4 direct hov connections, a light rail station, a bus station, and a elevator. Take a look at brents I-110 video tO see this interchange swallow you up. 2nd or 3rd most impressive in the world hands down.
defantly one of the most impressive L.A frwy's and combine the fact on the new 4 and 5 level interchanges makes it even better. thanks for the ride westbound.

I run the I-10 video next to this and mute this one, I like the music on most of your videos, but this song was slightly disappointing.
Still enjoyed the ride!

Thanks for the video, they're very well done. I have a fear of driving on freeways so I'm using your videos as a way to get over it. Thanks!

If you had someone sitting next to you throughout the ride, would you be taking the carpool lane or the outside lanes?
damonkey6969 8 months ago
@damonkey6969: You can choose either, or. That's the luxury of being in a carpool.

Fresno has some nice interchanges; specifically the CA 41/CA 180 stack. That's quite a monster!

I like the interchanges but I still think the ones in Texas beat this one hands down.
Dallas high 5, Katy freeway, and even I-35 Austin flyover Interchange.
I see Texas taking the crown from California in 5 to 10 years due to economy and low cost of living. Many Californians are moving to Texas :)
