this is what happens when digital zoom and auto focus don't work right. another way to say don't use auto focus and digital zoom when filming at night with a bright object like the moon as a subject. same thing can happen if you film a distant street light at night.

Because there is a volcano or high crater rim in that precise spot, the peak of which is high enough to still be illuminated by the sun while the lower reaches and surrounding area are already past the solar terminator (line dividing day and night) and are darkened, making it look like a strange point of light in a dark area. The point of light would disappear once the sun sets far enough and the peak is no longer illuminated.
anyone remember some rumor from the 60-70's about there being Mirrors placed on the moon so that Laser beams could be bounced off and redirected to hit any place on the planet at any time!? Can you get close up shots of the moons surface with telescopes that are sold to the general public? I'm talking about being able to see something the size of a car. I was looking at this CELESTRON 9.25SCT TELESCOPE on E-Bay and was wondering if that would do it, or would you need something better?
go to telescopes . com and get any dobsonian light bucket. they go up to 12'' well i thinkn they are selling a 16'' but get an 8'' or 10'' youll be able to see alot.
That spot always lights up, not sure why, I have many full moon recordings up, the hunters moon this year, something is shining there

this is what happens when digital zoom and auto focus don't work right. another way to say don't use auto focus and digital zoom when filming at night with a bright object like the moon as a subject. same thing can happen if you film a distant street light at night.

Because there is a volcano or high crater rim in that precise spot, the peak of which is high enough to still be illuminated by the sun while the lower reaches and surrounding area are already past the solar terminator (line dividing day and night) and are darkened, making it look like a strange point of light in a dark area. The point of light would disappear once the sun sets far enough and the peak is no longer illuminated.

anyone remember some rumor from the 60-70's about there being Mirrors placed on the moon so that Laser beams could be bounced off and redirected to hit any place on the planet at any time!? Laser beams up your ass from around the planet, now that seems like something we should all be looking out for.

The mirrors are there, it's not a rumour it is a well documented fact. However they are far too small to be used for anything other than scientific experiments. Here is a list of some of the things we have learnt/confirmed from them:
1) The moon's orbit is increasing approx 3.8cm/year
2) The moon has a liquid core.
3) Newton's gravitational constant is almost certainly constant with time.
4) Einstein's general theory of relativity confirmed to the limits of the accuracy laser ranging.

Can you get close up shots of the moons surface with telescopes that are sold to the general public? I'm talking about being able to see something the size of a car. I was looking at this CELESTRON 9.25SCT TELESCOPE on E-Bay and was wondering if that would do it, or would you need something better?

go to telescopes . com and get any dobsonian light bucket. they go up to 12'' well i thinkn they are selling a 16'' but get an 8'' or 10'' youll be able to see alot.

It's called Transient Lunar Phenomena, it's not unusual, though nobody knows exactly what causes it.

probably just a crater or mountain reflecting the light. its only just inside the shadow. it'd be weirder if it was in the middle of the shadow ;)
