Prefab Sprout changed my way to hear music. That was back in 1987 (I was 16) when I heard "When Love Breaks Down" on the French radio. Paddy, you designed the soundtrack of my life, past, present and to come, and for that I couldn't thank you enough.

Maybe because I discovered them on the same day (ahhh, spring 1986), I've always thought of Prefab Sprout and The Blue Nile as stylistic neighbors. Correct or not, each band is quality; please check out The Blue Nile if you're not familiar with them.

I agree with you. Prefab and the Blue Nile are two of my favorites bands. Both with a high level of music production. Personally, I like Hats and a Walk Across the Rooftops BN albums.

I could never get my head around this band .Their quirky pop was a rare thing. Its almost as if it did not fit in this world .Unique.I found myself laughing at their music, not admitting I liked them until realised I was in love them, musically,but how fucked up is that hahahahaha! and always will love them ! Bought Steve Mcqueen on tape aged 14. Went to a party. Got drunk on Cinzano. Made a fool of myself. Listened to When Love Breaks Down the next day on my walkman repeatedly because the girl I wanted to snog at the party told me where to go. If only life was still so simple huh (?!) Great band.

What an underated songrwiter and band. The prefabs should have been massive but missed out so many times. Their brilliance but lack of commercial success just mirrored the dire state of the UK charts. Paddy remain on a par with McCartney in terms of how he can make a tune so effortlessly wonderful.
