@ordaboy You only have a few seconds to finish a move when attempting ground work. I am not sure that he recieved any points for the armbar attempt. The throw was a full point for sure though.
@ordaboy did the blue judoka submit? plus the ref has to call matte when a fight goes from newaza to tachiwaza, hence why blue judoka made such an effort to stand up and lift his opponent off the ground
I knew of someone's friend who was blind too (but black belt), one time he got mugged, and by the senses, he grappled and choked the f*ckkk out of the the guy trying to mug him. he had minor cut in the face but the other guy went unconscious till police came. it was reported in our local newspaper. lol
I was wondering why the referee stopped the fight during the armbar. But pls dont tell me that it was because of safety. I would like to know which rules justifies that. IMHO I can only think that the referee dislikes ground techniches...
I understand that you might think that way, although it's not true....In Judo you can't have one standing and one on the ground, that's just immediately mate(stop). So a hanging armbar on a standing guy is always a stop unless they're both on the ground ke? :)
I wonder what is their disability ? They seem awfully strong to me. The first lock in the arm was amazing. Seem really like the brazilean Gracie jujitsu.
@LordZero666 They're blind. you can tell by their guides and the fact that they start off with grips. Sight is often not used in judo or bjj since it's mostly "feeling out" your opponent's weight and timing.
We got a guy who has downsyndrome in our judo class and im not being funny he's fucking scarry stong and flexible. like he's double jointed he can do the splits and bend his fingers back and shit.
These guys are as good as any athletes! I think there should be no more Para-Olympics - it should be combined into one Olympics! These guys deserve it!
not unfair at all. it's for the safety of both players. one could break an arm, the other could get his neck injured if he lands head first into the mat.
judo was designed to be used in japan's school system as physical education. judo techniques were modified so that you don't seriously injure or kill your opponent by deliberately trying to throw them face first into the ground. they were also modified so that players do not throw opponents with a joint lock.
judo and ju jitsu are the same, the difference is in the rules. I'm soooo sick of hearing that bjj is better. As a sport.....I would watch and compete in judo over bjj any day of the week! Same game, different rules. But, judo is soooo much more exciting.
I practice both and as far as I can tell you're right, the differences come from competition rules. Each one focuses on what works best for their competition rules. I'd say judo is more exciting, explosive and more interesting to watch. Bjj is more like a chess game, but it's kinda slow and boring to watch, specially if you don't practice.
One thing I miss in judo is practicing without the gi... It's not common, at least here in Brazil. In bjj we do it once a week where I practice.
As a not bad competition-fighter with a weekend-training with blind judoka, I changed my fighting-style. They showed me how to feel what my opponent will do. That made me a lot of quicker to react an counter their moves.
I have been a competition-fighter, and not a bad one. But at a training-weekend with some blind judoka I was quite impressed of their abilities. And as a competition-fighter you can learn a lot of them. They show you how to feel what your opponent will do. so your reactions will be a lot of faster.
What? I'm 6'foot and my instructor is 6"1 or so, he rapes the competitions. It doesn't matter how tall you are I mean yea if some one is shorter than you their center of gravity is already lower than yours so they don't have to bend the legs but than again you want to bend the legs because you can spring your hips and generate a lot more power.
mmm. That's true I'm 5'1, slight build (waist,26) but heavy (born naturally muscular) I end up with people who are about 5'6 + and my moves tend to involve foot sweeps or gari based throws because of the bending power thing. Although I can throw a decent uki-goshi on a counter involving a neat little hip bump.
While I find that koshi waza (hip techniques) are generally more difficult for tall, lanky people than for short, stocky ones, tall people can still do them. When you go up against some one taller, you're the short one and so it is easier to get a hip throw in.
whats the move called where the 2 are leaning forward grappling with their heads down and ya put the foot between the guys legs and lean back and throws the guy over onto his back?
Whats the move called where the 2 are leaning forward grappling and the other guy has his head down and ya put the foot between the guys legs and lean back and throw him onto his back? I'm 6'4 and I've recently started judo and I find myslef in that position.
can but u cant do overhead throws or high throws which requires u to bend down, u are suitable for Ashi wazas(foot techniques)and hand techniques but not goshi, because ur waist is too high
The Paralympics are elite sport events for athletes from six different disability groups. They emphasize, however, the participants' athletic achievements rather than their disability. Olympic style games for athletes with a disability were organized for the first time in Rome in 1960, now called Paralympics.

@ordaboy AND G0dspelronin
first: there aer no "point" in judo. you get a yuko, wazari or ippon.
ippon you get for a good throw on all of the opponents back, or a submission.
it is like a KO.
wazari is for a throw that's good, but not as an ippon. two wazari add up to an ippon.
yuko is for a throw that lands the opponent on the side.
in this case, the dude did not pull off an armbar actually. and since the other guy lifted him up, the match must be stopped.
the throw was an ippon.
monss84 10 months ago
i dont get it,how come the dude that pulled off the armbar didnt win but the guy throws him once and wins?

dumping on the head has nothing to do with the points. Do you do judo? The points only accumulate after a throw, regardless of the danger.
