  • I find it amusing that there's no filming with sound from inside the car.

    Driving on a rough road will be deafening experience..

    A tad different from my '02 Laguna 1,8 Tourer. :-)

    But the R4 is a charming and robust little car.

  • @doraemon8061 I got one, the last model produced, called the R4 GTL. It's got an 1100 cc engine and will go about 120, if lucky 130 (no wind etc.) though it drives most comfortably around 110 km/h. I tell you, that feels like 140 in a car like that. The accelleration is not that good but it's not that bad either. You can get along okay in normal traffic, especially in the city. Highwaydriving is just not that fast but just good.

  • Now THIS is a car. A Toyota Corolla is a BORING APPLIANCE with NO SOUL. The Renault R4 captivated a whole generation who grew up with it. It was a car that parents bought and their children inherited, which says a lot about their quality and reliability. The R4, despite its simple and quirky styling, was roomy, comfortable and simple and it got you from A to B in comfort. The Renault R4 is a car with character and heritage. It is a LEGEND and a true classic car.

  • What an awesome car. The Renault R4 is a legend. It's a shame that nobody appreciates those old, yet solid and innovative French cars anymore. These days you have people bitching about how an economy car is "underpowered" with 150-horsepower and everything is about 0-60 etc. How utterly pathetic. I'd rather drive something special like a Renault R4 or Citroen 2CV than some boring and overrated Toyota Corolla.

  • Our familly had two of them first R4 TL Special (850 ccm) and then R4 GTL (1100 ccm)..theyere just magnificent and unbreakable.

  • @therotiv4 habia 2 modelo, el normal que marcaba 120 km. y el super que marcaba 130, yo el de 110 no lo conoci, los ultimos modelos ya marcaban 140.

  • @ferni1glass si la suspencion no era tan blanca como el r4, tenes razon, pero no era tan duro. me trae buenos recuerdos, tienen el mismo motor, y la caja era muy similar. yo al gordini despues le puse el motor del R12 un 1400cc. saludos!

  • I love these cars but for the suspension to be made, at the left or right side of the car the wheel-base has to be longer and that's shady quality. Yet interesting.

  • I'm surprised to find so many nostalgic and affectionate comments about the R4 - maybe I am too young (mid fourties). A few of my mates at university had one and they were all pretty tired bangers though they weren't that old.

    In Germany, it was considered about as rickety as the 2CV, only much uglier.

    Yes, interesting car but it's full of technology, which is good on one side ( security, comfort, handling..) but an average person can't do almost nothing for maintenance or repair.

    The "problem" is that we wont give up all this technology and comfort we have now anymore...

M 738 MNV - Mind you was a real s*d to start on damp days - underneath the bonnet it was like Blackpool Illuminations!
