  • they shuld have never ever got back togther layne is irreplaceable wtf u guys thinking this guy sucks! guess u were all broke! how can they cheer for this guy!

  • @slipknotftw1000 If it wasn't for DuVall, Alice in Chains would've been forgotten years ago...

  • they shuld have never ever got back togther layne is irreplaceable wtf u guys thinking this guy sucks! guess u were all broke!

  • who should have replaced layne then ?

  • William Duvall is the shit. Jerry knows William is the shit.

  • really this guy blows great the fuck off stage you american idol dancin piece of shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Layne has some pretty big shoes to fill. William does a great job of doing just that. It is like he hit the ground running and knew what to do. Jerry new this as well. God Bless Alice in Chains. They have made their mark in music . It is great they can still share their songs with us even after Laynes death.

  • @rcdowdy agreed, people are starting to love duvall in a different way than they love layne thats for sure, i love duvalls other band down with the fall.

  • @SythDarKProductions he sucks!

  • Respond to this video... he sucks!

  • i was there, somewhere~~crappy speakers at that venue.

  • They should of changed their name, in my opinion . Rest In Peace Layne.<3

  • Alice in Chains is a star that will never die (no homo)

  • now layne can finally rip with the honor he deserves...aic is back

  • new AiC still awesome without the layne starr factor haha xD

  • Get over it you hating assholes. Layne was a junkie and threw it all away. These guys are living on. If you were a real fan, you'd get it...

  • @Xdog40 well, i agree and disagree.. layne had serious issues and drugs were his escape. its sad and unfortunate… But the man was a musical genius and no one can replace what he brought to Alice in Chains. AIC Is the only band i listen really and i am a huge fan.. but you shouldnt hate on the distinctive voice that made AIC. A real fan would know that.'

  • @gabeo85 Your reply is rational, and therefore deserves a response...

You misunderstand, I am not hating on Layne. I am hating on the fairweather fans that won't respect or support the rest of the band who is still trying to make music. You may not fall into that category, but sadly, too many do. I miss Layne, and I am very sad he is gone, but it's not like he died of cancer. He made choices, like the ones we all make every day. I just want Jerry and the rest of the "new" AIC to live on.

  • the crowd suck

  • AIC DOES NOT EXSIST WITHOUT LAYNE STALEY!!!! He WAS AIC! They should change thier name and move on! RIP Layne & Mike!

  • @slimjosie would AIC sound as good with out jerry cantrell's guitar? i think not. their music is great because its a combination of their talent. Staley/Cantrell harmonization is one of the best sounds you can ever hear in all of music. While i agree that AIC will never be the same after his death, its just plain WRONG to claim that Alice in Chains is JUST Layne Staley.

And what's wrong with the remaining of the band wanting to play the music they helped create?

  • They should do their own songs not the aic that Layne was a part of! The songs don't give u the same feeling in your soul when will sings them Layne did to u it was indescribable! Also Layne did write some aic songs and Jerry wrote some they were equal and Layne was also inspiration for a lot of jerrys writings being his close friend and all.

  • fuck duvall

  • not the same but god damn good

  • Duvall is good but no Layne, Sorry No Layne and No Mike Starr, No Alice In Chains!

  • this was on my birthday

  • Duvall does Layne a tribute. He's an impressive set of chords. Nicely done, brother.

  • William may not be Layne Staley but he's a damn good singer and suits the band well.

  • not the same

  • out of all my favorite bands, Tool, Alice, and Mars Volta. They ALWAYS have the funniest concerts. every time i see them. i walk away darn happy!

  • Layne can never be replaced. He was more than a singer, he brought more to the music and that's what got us hooked. DuVall is good, no problem.

I hope Layne is somewhere doing his boyish giggle and knowing how much we still love him...

  • it pisses me off when bands get new singers....... especially when they die...... R.I.P Layne Staley....

  • Anigga In Chains no offence..but jesus christ

  • @Ashigoh Please go away and disappear. Forever.

  • @Ashigoh lol dude?!

  • @napkinshower lol its just coincidence..shhh

  • @Ashigoh lol why you into tool alice and mars volta too?

  • it sounds good... not bad

  • I like this bassist.

  • haha this was on my birthday, love this band

  • Layne is not dead, he is just giving god some vocal lessons.

  • I love how people say that Duvall sucks cuz he sings different, but its the same people who say this that say that no on can replace him. Stop bitchin! Lucky theyre even playing

  • Oh I forgot: I like the new album as well.

  • Please stop hating on William and their new music, Alice in Chains rocks no matter what, i saw em live with william and it was spectacular! Yeah... maybe it would have been better with Layne, but you just can't complain about William DuVall, he's a very great singer and guitarist, while Layne was a GODLIKE singer

  • @CashinUpACoffin i agrre with youman theyer new album was amazing...but layne was the best n vocaly william almost sounds the same hes pretty dam close

  • @CashinUpACoffin why hate william? song writer is still Cantrell...

  • @CashinUpACoffin Yout right... They kicked ass before lane died and after he died..... And you really cant tell the difference between willian and layne. If your a true fan you would accept the fact that alice in chains is the best song.

  • any one whos arguing over this is a jack ass. layne was a fucking amazing singer and artist in more than one way and i do not know if the world will ever see such a dynamic vocalist again. there is no need to compare these two singers. william duvall fits rather nicely into this band and almost a year ago they released the only mainstream rock/metal albums to hit number one containing real music in well over a decade. if youre not supporting this band as it is now youre against good music.

  • I like the original alice in chains better. Like back in the 90's with the original lead singer.

  • lol 1:00 he threw the pick

  • lol at 0:55

  • nothing is as good as old aic

  • u make me sic

  • i still get chills when they hit that chorus for almost 20 years!

  • William is awesome great job !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He has a great voice but I somehow don't like the crowdpleasing rockstar movements Duvall always makes. Sounds irrelevant, I know.. Layne's introverted presence on stage, together with his raw voice, puts more to the music for me.

  • @loekskywalker what about jerry playing the solo front stage for the crowd, does that make him a crowd pleasing rock star as you put it? how do you know layne wouldn't be the same way if he were still alive.

sometimes its nice to have a front man who puts on a show and doesn't just recluse the whole time... maybe william is trying to bring a new side to alice in chains...... their new album is awesome, they have taken a good first step without layne, dont ruin it with your layne negativity.

  • So this is what Alice in chains is now? a bunch of 40 year old, washed up, beat down hacks. Playing the songs that Layne made great, Playing the songs that Layne poured his heart into, Playing the songs that Layne wrote about his pain and suffering, his deepest darkest thoughts.

So now we get some hippy hollywood mother fucker, who can't sing, and doesn't now shit about Layne or what he went through, go up on stage and be the new image of AIC. and i'm supposed to be thankfull?

    ya right

  • @Wesson4 Dude, Cantrell writes the fucking songs you dipshit...

  • @iH8Liberals1776 wow buddy so I guess you think that a song is just the music eh.

Ever heard of lyrics, hooks, choruses, melodies? somebody has to write those two.

    And Layne wrote the majority.

  • @Wesson4 Umm no he didn't. Cantrell sings on about ever song they have. Check the song credits.

  • @iH8Liberals1776 WTF are you talking about Layne wrote over 50 percent of the lyrics to the music

This song" Man in the Box for example. Composed by Cantrell, Lyrics by Staley

    god your dumb

  • @Wesson4 Who gives a shit about the lyrics. That's not what made them famous moron. It's YOU'RE not YOUR...LOL

  • @iH8Liberals1776 So what made them famous?

Pretty sure it's a two way street in music. You need good instrumental sound. But you also need melodies and Lyrics.

And I honestly can't argue with somebody who doesn't think lyrics are important.

  • @Wesson4 Do you know the difference between a vocal melody and a lyric. Cantrell wrote almost all vocal melodies. If lyrics are so bloody important go read a book.

  • @iH8Liberals1776 OK you do understand that every word, lyric, chorus. In this video was written by Layne Staley?

I don't understand what your arguing about. Cantrell was the main composer. Layne was the main lyricist.

    Both are extremely important.

    Fuck off

  • Comment removed

  • @Wesson4 Ya you better remove that comment because it's retarded. Layne's lyrics were the best. And every song he wrote on helped define Alice.

Man in the box perfect example.

  • @iH8Liberals1776 youre a faggot

  • @BoNursukker And you need to understand who writes the music dumb dumb...

  • @Wesson4

How do you know whether he knows shit or not about Layne? :S

Washed up? This performance was fucking awesome. And don't forget that Layne did not write the music.

Layne was amazing, but Layne was not Alice in Chains. Thank fuck they kept going, thank fuck these songs are still being played live.

  • Shove my nose in SH*T!!!!!

  • its hard to hear him singing

  • I used to be a big fan of Chains and miss Layne. When I saw they'll be here in a couple of weeks, I checked in to see how they were doing without Stanley. William DuVall is a very talented frontman, but he really should trip a couple of times with tryptamines before he fronts a band like Chains. I wish them all the best.

  • duvall is good too. Past is past. Just enjoy this moment.

  • @peeecha12345

    exactly.

  • Duvaall heeeee siiiiings liiiiike shiiiit,

  • @gjasr Haha, pretty funny. I'd like to see you fill shoes of a person who was an awesome singer. I saw them live in March, and I thought they were awesome. Face it, Layne isn't coming back, He was great, but give Duvall credit, he has balls to get on stage and do this. Also, Duvalls vocals are fine in my opinion, if you don't like it then don't listen to them.

  • I miss Layne but this new guy is fucking great

  • Duvall is shit, Mark Lanegan would be the only acceptable substitute for a band who calls themselves Alice In Chains.

And if it's about the crowd enjoying AIC music, then do this.... get rid of the singer, and at every show, the audience is the vocalist. There's a revolutionary idea. They can do a live album and have the vocal credits go to Jerry and 10,000 other people.

  • @PremaritalSex1 Maybe you should be their next singer, you'd be better than Layne and DuVall, Iam sure.

  • @PremaritalSex1 Mark Lanegan? In AIC? Please tell me that was just a really sick joke?

  • Pretty good. It's just nobody can't do it like Layne....RIP.

  • DuVall is fucking awesome!

  • duvalls a great musician but its hard to get used to it not being layne anymore

  • just not the same without layne. mike does own in this video

  • get over it. bands change. it is sad that layne's isnt there anymore, but have respect for duvall, dude. the guy has a great voice that mixes well with jerry. it's unforunate that layne isn't here with us anymore, but open up your ears and here that the beauty is still there.

  • 0:58 fuck yeah, mike threw his pick and started playing with his fingers like a real bassist

    AiC

  • Mike is awesome in this video!

  • Layne has to be smiling

  • @pataricia2 or laughing more like it

  • Totally miss Layne.. .just not the same... the music rocks, but it's missing Layne's stamp.

  • lol DuVall is a cool guy he looks like he time traveled from the 70s... GROOVY!

  • awesome!

  • When did Phil Lynott take over lead singer duties in AIC?

  • @SwanKong11 Phil Lynott tok over lead singer in 2002 after Layne Staley died. go to the youtube searchbox and type in rooster unplugged. you'll see how bad Layne got on drugs.

  • TOP 6...down in a hole...man in a box...rooster...nutshell...would...grind...

  • for my part, i simply think AIC got success due to both Stanley and his incredible voice and Cantrell and his awesome riffs. They Both were the key to the unique sound of AIC.

now, stop bitching about the band and simply anjoy their unique sound! Have you all forgot what music is all about?

  • Dudes. Calm the FUCK down. DuVall did not replace Layne. He's just filling in during his extended absence. And honestly.... I think DuVall does a hell of a job. He had balls for taking the job considering all you haters are gonna talk shit about him for years. Lay off.

  • ok people they can call them alice n chains buttttttt n a but one stop doing layne songs do ur own stuff they should never do old stuff live ,i bet they would not sell shows or cds if they did new shit aic died with layne . the band should give him that much respect since they knew he was killing him self with drugs but failed to try n help i would have tied him up untill he was done detoxing n try to get him to want to live n help his self , r.i.p layne missed very much .

  • I miss Layne like all hell, AIC was one of my favorites but the dude fucked up and killed himself.

I say keep the great song alive and perform them every chance, that is the real way to honor LAyne and what he did.

  • How can you help someone if they don't want the help? I doubt you know shit about how much they tried to help Layne, but a drug addiction can be a bitch to get out from..

  • na i know alott ive lost 3 friends to dope in 1 year n i helped my friend come clean he is 6 months sober i know alott n i agree u cant help if they dont want help but they said in a interview after his death they gave up n said it wasent there place to tell him what to do .he was sick n they watched him do it for 10 years at some point you say were all leaving the band if u dont get help but to just give up its allot of work to get someone clean ive never been a addict but ive known many

  • rip layne...rip aic

  • @pakalkas No thats wrong. I saw them this year and they were quite good. And its important to say that Jerry Cantrell wrote most of the songs..

  • @Massifi ok a good band but not as AIC

  • my 5 favourite alice songs.... down in a hole, sea of sorrow, rain when i die, nutshell, grind....

  • At their concert two weeks ago, my friend and I were the only to headbang on this song :S

  • williams sings better live? that's a bit of a stretch. maybe if Layne was really fucked up AND sick...The one thing I associated with AIC and Layne in particular is that they ALWAYS sounded great live!

  • I think what he means is William sounds better when you're there than watching videos. I agree, thought he sucked after watching youtube vids of him, but he was immense at MArlay Park this summer

  • Layne might not have made the music, but he sure wrote a fuck load of lyrics,

and he single handly gave that band its voice, image, and style.

Without Layne they would have never emerged.

They need to change there band name, AIC died in 2002.

  • Or you're gonna do what? Write another bitter, sappy comment on a message board?

  • he didnt leave them dumass. they were still together. he just wanted to try smthing out.

  • I just read a comment that sean kinney made in an interview yesterday. He said the band name alice in chains is their name, and if anyone wants them to change it, they can fuck off. lol. I do agree. Alice in chains was diamond lie before layne staley joined the band with sean jerry and mike. they played for a while as diamond lie with layne until later changing their name to alice. So, the band has every right to continue on with their name being alice, since it was jerrys band originally..

  • Fine then they should call themselves Diamond Lie again.

Has a great ring to it doesn't it? :p

Just another example that without Layne these guys would be no where.

  • you can argue that vedder, staley, and cobain are the singers who would be the most valuable to the band. But it has got to be the who's roger daltrey. There is a reason why love reign o'er is the best vocal performance in the history of rock. eddie vedder is a great singer with tremendous range and a real gritty sound. But even he cannot come close to daltrey on love reign o'er me but that is most likely impossible anyway

  • Layne was the best...cornell is also in the discussion from that era. Raw power and emotion was what Layne brought.

  • The past is a beautiful thing:

    watch?v=eipuJPgHFZk

  • layne is layne......

  • You gotta understand the people who can't get over Layne...I mean, I may not be a die hard AIC fan so I don't have trouble accepting DuVall's vocals but I am a die hard Pearl Jam fan for example, and in my opinion, NOBODY could EVER replace Eddie Vedder and PJ would never be the same without him. You gotta put yourself in their shoes if you hope to understand them...

  • kinda like having a new singer replace cobain? cause im a die-hard nirvana fan.

  • yeah, wouldn't that suck ? I'm a die hard Nirvana fan too and I know I couldn't take it.

  • Noone on the face of the earth could ever replace Vedder. :)

  • And he was just a normal, friendly guy. Alot of my friends and family knew him personally hahaha

Just a Kirkland boy. Amazing talent he had.

I had never had the privilege of meeting him, but i remember he lived with my uncle for a while. In Seattle. But way back when Layne was 16. lol

  • Yeah it has to be about the music and at this point that ni**er can sing! He is carrying on well enough for Cantrell and Kinney to let him in the band so who are you to make that decision for them?

  • I was a devout William hater. In my opinion no one person can replace Layne. But, after seeing Alice In Chains at Buzzfest in Texas a few nights ago, I can now say that I love Alice In Chains with him in it. The new songs are great and he does the old ones justice. I could definitely feel the spirit of Layne in the venue. I even cried a little when they sang Rooster... Alice In Chains was and still is the reason I love music.

  • aic are great my friend introduced me to one of their songs he heard of a game and since then we have loved them

  • what happend to the other lead singer...sry not up to par

  • Layne died from a drug overdose. He injected a speedball and lay dead in his apartment for 2 weeks before being discovered by his mother, or so the story goes.

  • ROFLMFAO ....

  • Layne is Layne. But AiC is AiC. I like it how that they got someone that sounds just like Layne to sing his songs, and William, imo, was the perfect choice. He is wonderful and people who say he sucks just because you think AiC shouldn't have reunited or that he sounds nothing like Layne can suck it.

  • he doesnt sound like layne!! wtf layne was waaaayy better! if ur a ture a.i.c fan u would know...but never the less william is good and u can see he really tries and u cant hate him for that

  • I think it would have been cool if they got scott from stp if they could get him back to basics-although i think the knew aic shit is pretty damn good all things considerd.

  • giggs left?

  • I am very sorry but HE IS THE ONE (Layne Staley)

  • What an awesome view of the crowd and the band

  • who layne was and what he did was legendary, but all you people saying he was and is alice in chains can fuck off. Try telling AC/DC they shouldnt have carried on without bon and see how many teeth your'e left with. There's alot of people out there including myself and Dave Grohl that think the new album is fuckin cool.

  • Dave Grohl likes it too! Awesome.

  • LOL why would anyone care what dave grohl thinks? Have you heard anything the foo fighters have done since 2002? Awful. AIC was never attempting to be "cool" they were dirty, down home grunge and. It's 2009 not 1992, so this will never work because A: It's not 92" and B: While layne was not Alice in chains by himself, he was a large part of it. That'd be like say...foo fighters without Dave grohl. Or Pearl jam without eddie vedder.

  • haha did i say alice in chains were trying to be cool ? no read again idiot i said the new album is cool. and my point is that any band has the right to keep their name no matter what member has past away and theres proof it can work with AC/DC. who cares when it is if its good music. you heard grohl in them crooked vultures? try falt that bitch. i look foward to youre reply

  • Well IDIOT album or band, AIC never strived for cool like mister Grohl does every time he spews out another abomination to music. AC/DC is a horrid example, once again we're in (NOW 2010) AC/DC is no longer relavent. By the way learn to spell.

  • what use is spelling when you cant read. I NEVER SAID THEY DID. do you understand that now? I said I (thats me) think the new album is cool. any band wants it's fans to like their music im sure you'll agree. black ice debuted at #1 in 29 countries and was the secound fastest selling album of 08 retard. there's no time period on the relevance of good music. how is the drumming in QOTSA album songs for the deaf an "abomination" ?

  • oh and deadbeans........... i love you

  • Comment removed

  • AC/DC's is more relevant than almost any band currently out today. Their influence will always be felt. Learn a thing or 2 about music before you speak nonsense.

  • that wasn't Dave hanging of you cock it was your dad

  • he doesnt mean them a individuals but as the band..ofcourse they should still do what they love to do but do it under a different name thats what he meant

  • I was in the same spot as you were a little later in the night for Velvet Revolver...best concert I have been to!

  • Comment removed

  • No matter how wasted Layne was, he always hit the notes and put on a show.

Look at the Unplugges session, he looks really gaunt, but his voice is just amazing and his singing is effortless. Duvall does a reasonable job, but to say he is better than Layne is just ridiculous.

  • your comment is just Brilliant my friend...

  • everyone has gotta stop hating in Duvall he sounds great to me and ppl also got to stop comparing the two FUCK! when u get a new lead singer u change the sound of the band

  • well actually i think jerry was probably more of alice in chains with writing most of the lyrics and the songs, and duvall is a great representation of layne while still not being a layne copycat if you know what i mean. So i think they did a good thing by reuniting

  • @cucumbersloth Layne wrote half of the lyrics and jerry needed layne to sing them cause he couldn't hit the notes layne could and now william can but doesn't have the sould behind it that layne did

  • He was the face, who wrote the music? Pretty sure it wasnt layne.

  • Fuck this No Lane i think they should just put Alice In Chains to rest that's like having Nirvana without Kurt.

  • du vall sounds good to me

  • I get so sick of people picking on William Duvall that I could scream
