  • Do you have a dead spot in the center where the light doesn't project?

  • have anybody done this?and how is working out?

  • Had anyone tried doing this on a twenty gallon kit

  • Are... are you a wizard? XD

Seriously, man, this is AMAZING. You just saved me from buying a nano light system that would cost me lord knows how much money. Seriously, lighting is the only thing that has kept me from starting my first reef tank.

Also, I never thought of painting the inside of the 10 gallon hoods white for better reflection! Genius! I have an extra laying around somewhere that I tried converting into a CFL hood, but I went with a 20 gal. hood instead. Thank goodness I did!

  • i have 100 gallon tank how many bulb do i need to put on it?...and wer can i buy the light?...thanks.

  • You vids appear to be very helpful. I wish you would fix the high pitched whistle in the audio though. Very annoying.

  • @algolake That whistling is the sound of high-volume air blowers running in the background. It is a feature of most large land-based mariculture facilities.

  • where do u get those lights

  • Wish I could get those light bulbs in the Philippines!

  • @abaneyone marami dito nyan sa pinas tol... firefly na brand ang d best and safe.

  • @xHizukax Salamat ha!

  • Where do you buy a cheap timer online?

  • @vsnzveks most likely on ebay or amazon but for a mid price brand new dr foster and smith .com

  • We need to know, how do you remove the seal so you can change the bulbs? Is there a different way to seal off the system so it would be easier to change the bulbs? Thanks and awsome idea, will do this if I can get an answer soon!

  • Once a year remove the acrylic lens and replace the bulbs. The seal is soft and it is easy to separate the lens from the hood. Lay down a new bead of silicone and replace the lens. It's a 10-minute job! If this is TOO much work for you then buy a NanoCube at four times the cost.

  • Thanks so very much! Awsome idea and what a money saver :) 5 Stars!!! Thank You so very much!

  • what r u doing when you have to replace one of the bulbs?

  • where did you buy the ballasts and stuff

  • These are self-ballasted bulbs! There is no external ballast. All of the equipment needed is shown in the video.

  • Hey my hood says max 15watts each, would it be a problem if I used the 20watts or should I get the ~$20 hood that says 25w each?

  • Ours says "not to exceed 25 watts," so that would be our recommendation.

  • no just got the lights in the mail and petsmart made a mistake on their website the box says 8inch i tryed them on and they fit fine

  • Great! You will enjoy these bulbs.

  • omg then i messed up the 9 inch lights were the only 20 watt lights the web site had

  • how many inches are your bulbs because i just ordered 9 inch bulbs are those to big?

  • For this particular hood the 9 inch bulbs are too long. As we state in the video, you want 20-watt Coralife 50/50 bulbs -- the bulbs themselves are closer to 4 inches long.

  • hey where did u get the metal reflectors from? also do you have to paint it white?

  • Aloha! The metal reflectors came with the unit but they are not essential. Painting the unit white improves the reflectivity of the hood. It is not absolutely essential though.

  • thanks!

  • THANKS! I did it too. Same Tank, Bulbs, White Paint exactly as you did. Now I got a 10 gal mini reef with a flower pot coral to start.

  • Note that for best results we recommend starting with hardy beginner soft corals -- mushrooms, zoanthus polyps, Anthelia, Xenia, green star, Sinularia, etc.

  • thats right, staying away from the stoneys. Thanks, your cool.

  • so does that mean that the Flower pot isn't a good option? Hmmm it seems to be doing great. let me know.

  • Where can I find those bulbs. Can you tell me please cause I don't know were to find them. Would I be able to find them at petco or petsmart?

  • ok thx and by the way how exactly do you breed trbo snails ok tx

  • hay with those lihgts wiil you b able to grow sof or stoney corals plz reply i need a nano im down gradeing from a 29 to a 10 gal ok

  • The 4 watts per gallon is good for soft corals and some hardy LPS corals like Blastomussa and Caulastrea. It is not enough for SPS corals though.

  • how much was it

  • iv gone to all the pet supply stores in my area and i can only find the 10W coralife is that going to be enough wattage?

  • No heater on the 10-gallon tank. Our tank was at 70 degrees F this morning, and by afternoon it will be up to 82F or even 82F. If it was getting down into the 60's we'd add a 25 watt heater.

  • okay and are u using a heater for the 10G tank?

  • you dont need a heater if u use a aquarium heat ray light

  • i dont have an acrylic cover for my light hood and im using it for saltwater, would that mess up the bulbs?

  • It's important to keep seawater away from the sockets or pin connectors, depending on which type of bulb you have. The glass part of the bulb itself may be water resistant but the socket end of the bulb is generally not. Most manufacturers recommend a lens of some sort. Either that or place the bulb(s) well above the salt spray.

  • Try thatfishplace or Fosters and Smith.

  • were did you get the lights
